Preseason week 2 leaders

Now that we’ve got two weeks of preseason stats, the leaderboard is starting to get a little more interesting and realistic from a fantasy football point of view. Historically, the third week has been where the starters play the longest, but here’s a glimpse (compliments of NFL.com) of the leaders after two games so far…

Some of the interesting names to note:

  • QB Kyle Orton – Probably more a matter of Orton getting a lot of playing time to get accustomed to the new offense than his awesome performances.
  • RB Glen Coffee – The rookie is showing some great stuff this preseason and is closed to becoming a MUST-have handcuff for Frank Gore owners.
  • RB Michael Turner – This guy wasn’t a one year fluke…he’s the real deal and a top three running back this year.
  • RB James Davis – This guy has blazing speed and ripped off an 80 yard touchdown this weekend. If Jamal Lewis starts showing his old age this year, Davis could get an opportunity to show his stuff at some point.
  • WR Troy Williamson – He’s trying his best to make something of his NFL career in potentially his last chance with a professional team and he’s racking up the preseason stats in the process. Will they translate to the regular season? Probably not, but he’s worth taking a late round flyer on and hoping he is somewhat productive.
  • WR Chris Henry and Chad Ochocinco – Both Bengals receivers have been playing great football in limited action this preseason, even without Carson Palmer most of the time. I expect a big year from Ochocinco and Henry could make a solid WR3 play if he keeps up this kind of production.
