Our quarterback and running back cheat sheets have been updated, so make sure to check them out before your draft! Some players who have moved up or down include Tony Romo, Brett Favre, Steven Jackson, Jamal Lewis, Ryan Grant and more…

    Preseason week 3 leaders

With the real preseason coming to an end this past weekend (week four is always a joke), here are the leaders in yardage from the quarterback, running back and wide receiver positions (compliments of NFL.com)…

    week 3 leaders

As you can see, there are a number of starting quarterbacks (Flacco, Rodgers, McNabb and Hasselbeck) and running backs (Peterson, Turner) now on the list, but there are some other names on there that may pique your interest. Cardinals backup Matt Leinart has actually done something useful this preseason, making him an even more important handcuff for Kurt Warner owners if you think the veteran’s age may catch up to him this year. Running back sleepers Glen Coffee and James Davis remain on the list and make solid, late round draft picks with medium-to-high upside. The same goes for all the receivers on the list (except Kenny McKinley…who is he?), who can be drafted very late and could provide you WR3 type of numbers this year.

I’ve heard the Broncos are very high on McKinley, but he’s pretty unlikely to make any impact until next season when Brandon Marshall is out of Denver.

I’m finding it hard to believe Troy Williamson’s preseason performances, but if he keeps it up in Week 1, I might just have to grab him off the waiver wire.

Yeah it seems that Williamson is getting big stats off a few long bombs and he most likely will not keep that up consistently throughout the season.

As for McKinley, you could be right. Marshall wasn’t projected to be a superstar out of college, nor was Eddie Royal, but they both did well. Maybe he’s the next in line.

    Alternative fantasy football

If you’re looking for a little non-traditional fantasy football action, the Librarian’s got some options for you. Seems like everyone’s trying to come up with something that might be a better fit for the more casual fan who doesn’t want to manage a team on a weekly basis. Some (like Draftmix, which I personally enjoyed) have gone to the big Silicon Valley in the sky; others, like ESPN’s Gridiron Challenge, appear to be doing OK.

This season, I’m planning on trying out lots of weekly competitions to see if I can find any that I like enough to use on a regular basis. Of course, I’ll be reporting back here.

With the server finally back up and running, let me just put up a few notes that I wanted to mention over the past day or so…

    Web host woes

Sorry for the downtime folks. LunarPages (our host) screwed something up, still not sure how they managed that but I wound up having to fix it myself since they apparently couldn’t do it. If you’re looking for a web host, you’d be well-served to look elsewhere. We’ll be doing just that after the season.
