Even though I featured Tom Brady on my Hit list this week, I’m less than excited about the rainy and windy weather up here in New England. At game-time, there is a 90% chance of rain and winds over 20 mph, so I have to slightly lower my expectations for Mr. Brady and the rest of the Patriots passing game today…maybe you should do the same.

Agreed. He has a great matchup but I’m not looking for him to blow up. We’ll leave that to Hasselbeck, McNabb, and Brees 😉

So far so good baby! I’ve already got some huge scores on the board in most leagues thanks to the likes of Rice, Schaub, GB Defense, Colston and Slaton.

I’m losing by 19 in my money league to the worst team but I’ve only played 5 players (of 11) so far whereas my opponent has played 10 of his 11. All signs point to another top score of the week prize thanks to the likes of Rice and MJD going off in the PPR format. In other news, the owner of the league just added a $50 second prize and will be adding consolation game prizes. I like my chances at money now!

Anyway, get in while you can for fantasy basketball. He’s taking signups now. Go to fantasyquotes.com and e-mail him to ask if you can play in one of his leagues. Nothing like Money for Nothing (except chicks for free I suppose)!

Even Rapiddraft is going well this week thanks to surprise breakouts by Schaub and Shiancoe. League win there gets you $25 and an “I Beat the Pros” T-shirt. Not bad for a free team.

To be honest, I might go 14-0 this week.

Well my world’s been turned upside down.

Seattle has their Punter playing QB instead of Hasselbeck. The worst part is that he’s doing even better than Hasselbeck. WTF!

      • Brandon 7:58 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

What the heck happened with Hasselbeck and McNabb?! Didn’t they know they were playing some of the worst pass defenses in the league? Tom Brady did!

        • Squish 4:20 am on October 19, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, Hasselbeck got me a nice solid -4.32 in my money league. Sad thing is, I’m 0.68 points behind my opponent. Luckily for me, it’s a PPR and return league and I have Eddie Royal remaining against my opponent no players remaining. The really sad part is that if Royal can net me 19 points (which is doable with return yards factored in), I’ll win the weekly top scorer prize for the second straight week. Yes, I might in fact win a weekly prize this week despite Hasselbeck’s best efforts to stop it. God I love FF!

Wow, 380 yards and 6 TDs for Brady. I don’t think any of us saw that one coming.

      • Brandon 7:57 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Seriously! I turned on the game and see that it’s the field is covered in a layer of snow and ice and think Brady is going to have a tough go of it (Kerry Collins did!) but man was I wrong!

      • Matt 9:13 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

That was insane. My opponent had MJD which probably would have killed me any other week, but I had Brady. 🙂

        • Squish 4:28 am on October 19, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I had a nice Moss vs Brady Matchup in one league with myself being the Moss owner. Moss kept it close enough so that Shiancoe and Rice could make up the difference and put me over the top 🙂

Holy crap guys! After 6 weeks of rapiddraft with my promotional team I’m sitting at 22nd overall! That’s only 21 spots from a quarter million bucks!

Originally I thought my promo offer excluded me from the main prizes but I just emailed support and they said my one team is (grand) prize eligible! I drafted a hidden gem of a team with all my reach picks turning into bigtime players.

Check out the 20 round draft team I’ve been playing with:

      QB: Schaub, Cassel, Collins
RB: Chris Johnson, Rice, Benson, Cadillac, Washington, Buckhalter
WR: Colston, R. Moss, Walter, Knox, Henderson, Wallace
      TE: Clark, Shiancoe
      PK: Gostkowski
      DEF: GB and PIT

I’m sure you can tell by looking that I had a great week (13 offensive TDs!) and it helped me make up some ground. Oddly, I don’t even think it was a fluke. Naturally, my good week in rapidraft was balanced by my horrible week for the best buy contest caused almost entirely by my selecting Hasselbeck as my “x2” player. Oh well, you win some and you lose some, but as long as you win the ones with guaranteed cash prizes, it all turns out for the better 🙂

Ask the Geeks – Week 6: Game-time Edition!

Here’s one last round of Ask the Geeks before the games start. If you want any more questions asked before game-time, we recommend posting them as comments on this post, as we’re more likely to respond faster that way. Good luck!

    E asks…

Been reading your blogs for weeks now. And it helped me to top the league with 4-1. I have questions that you can probably answer better than anyone else.

    1. Should i start manningham over braylon edwards? or the other way around

    2. and also should i start Tony Gonzales over Kellen Winslow?

I have a WR crisis. I have my two bye week fillers in (Sidney Rice & Devin Hester). Should I pick up M. Wallace, T. Holt, or B. Johnson for either of these two guys? Need replacement for Calvin Johnson.

      • Brandon 11:38 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Do you have to drop one of those guys to get one of the new guys? If so, drop Sidney Rice and pick up Mike Wallace. Wallace won’t catch a ton of passes, but he seems to catch the long ones and always has a chance to score.

      Nice site. Quick question guys:
I need to start Roethlisberger or Matt Ryan today.
The Bears give up a ton of YAC, but Big Ben is steady-as-she-goes every week. What do you think?

      • Brandon 11:41 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I like both guys, but I think I’d go with Matt Ryan at home against the Bears.

      Need 2WR, 2RB, 1 TE, and a Flex:

Bowe, Smith (Car), MJD, KSmith, Burleson, McCoy, Maclin, Keller, Cooley

      Thanks!

      • Brandon 11:48 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

For RB, go with MJD and Kevin Smith. At WR, go with Steve Smith and Nate Burleson. Play Keller at tight end and for your flex, I’d take a gamble and start Jeremy Maclin.

Good morning! I need 2WR, 2RB, and a Flex, pretty please:

WR: AJohnson, Megatron, Royal, Devery, ABryant
RB: ChrJohnson, LJ, Bradshaw, DWard, JCharles

Thank you very much and good luck in your personal leagues–especially the money ones!

      • Brandon 11:52 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Looks like Megatron won’t be playing, so go with Johnson and Royal at WR. For RB, go with Chris Johnson and Ahmad Bradshaw. For your Flex play, I’m leaning towards Antonio Bryant, who has become a favorite target of Bucs quarterback Josh Johnson.

Good morning! Great games coming up today! Quick question, I’ve got Sammy Morris, Ryan Grant, J. Stewart and LT in my RB pool. I figured I’d start Grant and Morris but I’m struggling with whether to flex LT or Stewart. I’m leaning toward Stewart. What do you think? Thanks!

      • Brandon 11:55 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

If the weather was nicer for the Patriots game, I would have said to bench Sammy Morris, as they would go to the pass a lot more against the Titans. However, I think they’ll run Morris a lot in this sloppy/windy weather. Start Grant and Morris and use LaDainian Tomlinson as your flex play.

Brady or Hasselbeck ahhh? — who to start?

      • Brandon 11:56 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I have to go with Hasselbeck due to the weather concerns in New England.

haha i’ve never not started Brady but i think i’m gonna

OK I’m at a loss for who to play this week… please help!

      Options are:
RB: Correl Buckhalter, Adrian Peterson, Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush
WR: Terrell Owens, Earl Bennet, and Lance Moore
TE: Owen Daniels or Kellen Winslow

Basically I can have 1 TE, 2 WR, 2 RB and then a flex position.

I’m well into my BYEs and do not have a clue what to do! Please help!

I also have the opportunity to pick up Steve Breaston or Kevin Walter…

      Thanks!

flex: royal, avery, antonio bryant, or DWard against a horrific Carolina run D?

      • Brandon 12:00 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I think I’d actually take the gamble on Donnie Avery against the Jags.

    • Tyler Davis 11:34 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I have my flex spot to fill. It is between either Steve Slaton, Braylon Edwards, or Percy Harvin?\
      Thanks guys

      • Brandon 11:44 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Go with Braylon Edwards. Jerricho Cotchery is expected to miss today’s game and Sanchez will look Edwards way often.

    • Ed 11:38 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Tyler, go with Edwards , don’t play buckhalter, name required, choose bush instead

    • raja 11:41 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

chris cooley or jeremiah finley? heard cooley will be blocking bc samuels is out.

      • Brandon 11:42 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, they mentioned that last week about Cooley, but they also said that he was still out running patterns fairly often. That being said, I like Finley’s upside a lot more this week against the Lions. Take the risk and go with him and hope he puts up big numbers like last game.

    • Tyler Davis 11:50 am on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I also have a defensive dilemma. I have both Cincy and Carolina but i don;t know if either one is a viable option. I can start one of them or pick up either Seattle or Atlanta’s D/ST? your thoughts?

      • DFonz 12:01 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’d go with Carolina they have a good match up. Only one you have to worry about there is Cadillac and the rest are playing crappy.

      • Brandon 12:02 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I agree with DFonz…go with Carolina and hope Josh Johnson throws another three interceptions for the Bucs or something.

Having trouble who do I start?

WR: Jeremy Macklin or Randy Moss
RB: Julius Jones or Sammy Morris

      ?????????????

      • Brandon 12:05 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I like Randy Moss and Sammy Morris, even with the nasty weather in New England this afternoon.

Which 2 would you start at RB Mendenhall Chris Johnson or sjax?

      • Tyler Davis 12:23 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Mendenhall will rip it up today against the brownies. definalely go with him. And i just dont trust any Ram. So i think you go with Johnson

      • Brandon 12:31 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I agree with Tyler on Mendenhall, but I’d go with Steven Jackson over Johnson today.

Does anyone think i should sell Slaton now? Or will his slow start wear off eventually?

      • Brandon 12:49 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Slaton has been the epitomy of a sophomore slump so far this year, but I feel like he has to improve somewhat as the year goes on. It all depends on what value you can get for Slaton if you plan to deal him.

        • Tyler Davis 12:56 pm on October 18, 2009 Permalink | Reply

His only bright spot so far was against the Terrible Raider D

who’s the best pick of waiver wire Laurence Maroney or Marshawn Lynch?

      • Brandon 8:30 am on October 20, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Marshawn Lynch is the better waiver wire pick up, as Laurence Maroney only has value while Sammy Morris is out (and even then, not a whole lot as the Patriots throw the ball so much.) Lynch is getting the majority of the carries in Buffalo and should put up more consistent numbers all season.
