Ask the Geeks: Let's go Patriots!

Before we get started, I wanted to remind you that New England goes to Denver to play the undefeated Broncos this afternoon, so…LET’S GO PATRIOTS!!! Anyways, here are the remaining Ask the Geek questions for week five. Hopefully they can help a few teams get to the 5-0 mark this week! Remember, you can send any additional inquiries you have to us here or simply leave them as comments on our posts and we’ll try our best to respond to them as soon as possible.

Lois asks…

Would you start Romo or Garrard? I’m not trusting Romo but his looks like the better match-up? Have one more question…Slaton or A.Bradshaw?

Brandon’s take: Without Roy Williams, I have to downgrade Romo slightly this week, even with a good match-up with Kansas City (it’s @ KC too, so the crowd could be a factor.) Go with David Garrard, who has been pretty solid lately. In terms of your running back question, go with Steve Slaton.

Matt asks…

I need to start 3: Steve Smith, Antonio Bryant, Austin Collie, Nate Burleson, Nate Washington. Help me out, WRs have been letting me down all season. Thanks.

Brandon’s take: No matter which Steve Smith (NYG or CAR) you’re talking about, make sure to have him in your lineup. As for the other two, go with Austin Collie, who has a great matchup this week and Nate Burleson.

Al asks…

I’m kind of stuck this week in one of my money leagues. At RB – JJ, Barber or Choice, Lynch, Turner. AT WR-Marshall, Harvin, Walter, Megatron. I need to start 2 and a flex.  What are my best options?

Brandon’s take: For your two running backs go with Michael Turner and Marion Barber. At receiver, I like Calvin Johnson and Percy Harvin, with Brandon Marshall in the flex spot.

JT asks…

Planning to start Coffee and Moreno. Who should be my flex: Ray Rice, Clinton Portis or Fred Jackson?

Brandon’s take: Go with Clinton Portis against the Panthers, who have struggled on defense this year.

Julie asks…

I have recently picked up Mohamed Massaquoi, Ahmad Bradshaw and Jerome Harrison. Currently I have starting 3WR’s- Andre Johnson, santonio
Holmes and Nate Burleson;  2 RB’s- Ronnie Brown and Fred Jackson. Would you make changes to my lineup this week?

Brandon’s take: I would start Mohamed Massaquoi over Nate Burleson.

Massie asks…

Which two RB’s should I start: Hightower, Julius Jones, Donald Brown, McGahee, Westbrook?

Brandon’s take: Willis McGahee and Brian Westbrook.

Keith asks…

Just picked up Cassel on waivers, have Eli as my second string behind Brees.  Even if Eli is a go this week vs. Oakland, is Cassel the better
bet assuming the Giants won’t be in any rush to push Eli against the Raider’s.

Brandon’s take: It looks like Eli will play, so I’d recommend you stick with him as long as they announce he’s playing. If possible, watch ESPN right before game time to get the official report. If he doesn’t go, then you’re stuck with Cassel.

JT asks…

The troubles of the split-backfield. I need three: Coffee @ Atl, Moreno @ NE, Rice @ Cin, Portis @ Car, Jackson @ Cle

Brandon’s take: I’d go with Clinton Portis, Knowshon Moreno, and Fred Jackson, who shouldn’t leave anything on the field as this is potentially his last audition game as he proves that he’s starter-worthy in the future and Marshawn Lynch takes back over as the teams feature-back.

Erin asks…

Joe Flacco, Bal QB
RB      Donald Brown, Ind RB
RB      Leon Washington, NYJ RB
RB/WR   Larry Fitzgerald, Ari WR
WR      Percy Harvin, Min WR
WR      Mike Sims-Walker, Jac WR
TE      Vernon Davis, SF TE
D/ST    Broncos D/ST, Den D/ST
K       Stephen Gostkowski, NE K

Bench   Randy Moss, NE WR
Bench   Tony Romo, Dal QB
Bench   Larry Johnson, KC RB
Bench   Brent Celek, Phi TE
Bench   Correll Buckhalter, Den RB  Q
Bench   Nate Washington, Ten WR  P
Bench   Jerome Harrison, Cle RB

Brandon’s take: I assume you’re asking us to analyze your lineup and recommend any changes? If that’s the case, I would replace Percy Harvin with Randy Moss, Donald Brown with Jerome Harrison, and Vernon Davis with Brent Celek. Good luck!
