I’m sure many of you have heard the one red paperclip story at this point. In case you haven’t though, over the course of 2005-06, Kyle MacDonald made a series of 14 one-for-one trades to upgrade from a single red paperclip to a house!!! It was a pretty amazing concept, made even more amazing by the low number of trades he actually had to complete for the house. Anyways, recently I read about Steven Ortiz, who also made 14 trades (his were through Craigslist) to upgrade from an old cell phone to a 2000 Porsche Boxster S. Pretty crazy stuff…and you probably can see where I’m headed with this.
Has anyone ever executed a series of trades in fantasy football to upgrade from Mr. Irrelevant to say…Mr. Peyton Manning?
In the leagues I usually play in, all of the managers A) know each other too well and B) think everyone is out to screw them over just for kicks. Unfortunately, this leads to very few trades. However, there has to be some leagues out there were trades happen a lot more often. Does anyone have any stories where they were at least able to upgrade a few tiers on the draft board through a series of one-for-one player trades?
Hopefully this will spur some managers out there to give it a try and see if they can, for example, turn Patrick Crayton into Randy Moss or Louis Murphy into Miles Austin. I figure the first few trades might not be too difficult, but at some point you may have to prey on a team manager with a certain favorite team-bias (trade Anthony Gonzalez to the Colts fan, etc.) Good luck!
