Jets TE Dustin Keller could be a sneaky later-round draft pick if you miss Clark, Gates, Davis, etc http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/16497/scouts-inc-te-keller-jets-go-to-guy

I’ve actually been grabbing Gonzalez in a lot of leagues. For being the most consistently good TE in the game, I’m surprised that he is still out there in the 6th round of most drafts. 7th TE off the board? I’ll risk him.

Gonzo should do the job nicely, especially if you were going to have to reach for one of the top guys. Best to combine a solid TE with a good player at another position.

I agree on Keller. In 2009, he ranked 12th in targets, but only 20th in points. Looking at his stats from 2009, he seems to have an abnormally low number of receptions per target (http://fwd4.me/avO), and his TD total for 2009 also was abnormally low for the number of targets. If he receives the same number of targets in 2010 (or maybe even increases slightly), and his other numbers increase toward the mean, then his value will be much higher.

I might end up regretting it, but right now I’m on the Matt Forte bounce-back bandwagon http://bit.ly/aEZGK5

I’m also on that bandwagon but I’m not drafting him because he’s in a Martz offense. Besides Chester Taylor is the better back anyway.

Maybe, but Taylor is 32 and Forte is only 25…gotta give the young gun the benefit of the doubt (sophomore slump hopefully.) Remember, it was only two seasons ago where he rushed for over 1200 yards and had 8 touchdowns!

I’m not capable of thinking rationally about Forte this year. I was so pumped going into last season in our keeper league with Forte and Brady as my first two picks. I didn’t know. I DIDN’T KNOW.

I would roll the dice with him him in a later round behind a one-two combo of 1)MJD/Rice and 2)R.Mathews/R.Mendenhall….

You think Mathews will slip to the end of the second round?

    • e-roc 8:50 am on August 19, 2010 Permalink | Reply

…In our league… (I’m also drafting 3rd, which means I’ll get the 18th pick coming back…) In the first two rounds of last year’s draft there were only eight RBs taken. With all 10 players returning, I’m guessing the draft will unfold in a similar manner this year. I wouldn’t be disappointed to get DAW at that spot either.

Actually, that seems to be about right. According to fftoolbox.com there are 9 RB’s in the top 20 picks and Ryan Mathews is averaging around pick 20. Hopefully it works out for you!

          Thanks Brandon.

On a side note, would you rather pick MJD or Ray Ray with the 3rd pick? Keeping in mind… 0.5 PPR for RBs..

        • Brandon 3:03 pm on August 19, 2010 Permalink | Reply

That’s the million dollar question for those picking #3! I guess my answer is MJD, unless Willis McGahee is traded and Ray Rice becomes the unquestioned feature back in Baltimore. Then I might go with Rice.

NFL leaders through week 1 (of the preseason)

Here are your offensive yardage leaders through the first week of the preseason. Keep in mind that the Bengals and Cowboys have already played two games. Also note, you should not draft any of these players, except Aaron Rodgers, Julian Edelman and possibly Bernard Scott.
