Just read this note from Stats.com on Yahoo’s player profile for Steven Jackson and for some reason all I could think was, where exactly do you put the needles? Ouch…

Sep 29 Jackson reported on his Twitter feed that his groin strain was feeling better after acupuncture treatment, but he’s not yet ready to practice.

On top of my Jackson’s bum thigh and if I play him this week I have to ponder if Andre Johnson will play full time against the Raiders and their shutdown corner or should I bench him??? and go with S Smith (Carolina) or D Thomas (Denver)

Who’s going to be a more productive RB week in and week out: DeAngelo Williams or Peyton Hillis?

      • Brandon 3:15 pm on September 30, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Ask me again next week 🙂 I want to say DeAngelo Williams, but if he doesn’t have a solid game this weekend and Hillis has another solid showing, I may have to change my mind. It’s hard for me to say that a free agent will be more productive/consistent than a first round pick after the first three games of the season…

I hate your response because I’m having the same issue! Fully understandable though. I’m just afraid to take a gamble on Hillis but DeAngelo has done nothing.

BYE week filler defense – Titans or Rams?

I’d go with the Titans. Even with a good match-up, not sure I could stomach having the Rams as my defense 🙂

Jags coach Jack Del Rio is pretty excited about his new waiver wire pickup, Trent Edwards:

“…to have a guy who has a chance to go forward beyond just next week and the rest of this season, but beyond that as a prospect, it’s a little bit like adding a draft pick and so we’re excited to have him aboard.

“He is a smart kid, he did go to Stanford so we’re thinking the learning curve maybe can be accelerated.”

Yeah Jack, that’s what we thought up here in western NY too. You might want to take a look at some of Captain Checkdown’s game film before you do anything crazy and bench Garrard for this guy.

You’d think that, but it’s amazing how a totally stagnant offense can suck all the life out of a fantasy RB, even accounting for PPR.

Ok guys, I just made a gigantic trade and want to know what you guys think
I traded amongst two friends and this was what I did (with the two trades combined)

I gave: Peyton Manning, Ahmad Bradshaw, Santana Moss, Vince Young, CJ Spiller for Joe Flacco, Dustin Keller, Arian Foster and Randy Moss

So my team looks like this

      QB: Matt Ryan
QB: Joe Flacco (we start 2 QBs)
      WR: Randy Moss
      WR: Larry Fitzgerald
      WR: Marques Colston
      RB: Steven Jackson
      RB: Peyton Hillis
      TE: Vernon Davis
      W/R: Arian Foster

What do you think? This is a ten team .5 PPR league btw.

      • Matt 9:29 am on September 30, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Tell me this league doesn’t give six points per passing touchdown. Even if that’s not the case, I think you hurt your team. Sorry man. Manning’s value is off the charts in a two-QB league. You didn’t need Keller when you already had Davis. Flacco’s been disappointing so far – I think he’ll turn it around, but my confidence in him has been shaken.

Really, what you did was trade Manning for Foster and Moss, which I’d probably give the green light to in single-QB leagues, but never in a league like yours.

I just made a couple of changes for bye week. Still thinking about using McGahee/Lynch (4real) over Tolbert and/or the flex:

      Q Henne
      R Gore
      R Tolbert
      R/W Santana Moss
      W Wayne
      W DJax
      T Gates
      D Saints
      K Gould

      B Favre
      B McGahee
      B SS (NYG)
      B Lynch

I was offered Vick for Reggie Wayne, which I’m turning down since I’ll go back to Favre next week (Henne’s bye) and then use either.

      • Brandon 9:47 am on September 30, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’m leaning towards sticking with Vick, Maclin and Mathews for a few reasons: 1) Vince Young doesn’t add anything to the trade, 2) I can’t imagine Collie doing anywhere but down (if only slightly) from his insane numbers so far, 3) MJD is scaring me, 4) Maclin should continue to improve with more playing time with Vick at QB and 5) you have enough Colts receivers already (that BYE week wouldn’t be pretty.)

        Hopefully that all made sense…

User Requested Player Ranks – Week 4

As I’ve mentioned previously, this year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. As usual, I’ve added some of the players from my own teams to get things started. For a permalink to the rankings for the week, view the Google Docs spreadsheet here.

Interesting. I was torn between Thomas and Mcfadden, and was going to go w/ Thomas based on the D they were up against, but might reconsider now (MJD being the third option, but too difficult to bench him).

As for WRs, I was thinking about benching either Calvin or Santana for Mark Clayton (difference being on the road against better Ds, or at home). Once again this makes things more difficult!

He’s moved down a few spots over the past week or two and if he can’t put up some decent numbers against the Colts porous run defense, then it might be time to start considering others ahead of him.

      Hello-

I am being offered M. Forte, A. Bradshaw, and J. Knox for R. Wayne. To give you an idea of what I’m working with, my team consists of Vick, S. Jackson, P. Thomas, B. Green-Ellis, J. Snelling, Ken Darby, A. Boldin, B. Lloyd, lee Evans, Roy Williams, C. Cooley, and Flacco. Do you think the trade is worth it?

      • Brandon 3:31 pm on September 29, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Forte, Bradshaw + Knox for Reggie Wayne? I think you have to do this trade, given your current team.

First, it would give you some decent options at running back this weekend (and in the future) with S-Jax and PT possibly out this weekend. Second, your WR would still be solid with Boldin, Knox and Lloyd.

You could then probably package up some of the excess RB depth and trade it for a decent alternate WR. I’d almost even say you could wait for Steven Jackson to have a decent game, then trade him for the best receiver you can get.

I would keep Brown. He’s getting more involved in the offense each week and who knows when Addai will get knocked out for a game or two. Green-Ellis is just the RB of the week for the Patriots. Who knows if he’ll even be the primary ball carrier this week (he probably will, but you know what I’m saying.) • Brandon 1:23 pm on September 30, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Just added Turner. As for Boldin, he gets props because A) the Steelers pass defense is around the middle of the pack so far this season in terms of yards allowed and B) because it could be worse if they played teams with better passing games. The one marque receiver they played against so far was Roddy White, who had 111 yards. As for Rice, he’s high up the list because of the key role he plays in his team offense, but also because there are some great running backs that haven’t been added to the list yet 🙂 If I add a few more top tier guys, you may see his rank fall.

Nicks, Jennings, as you mentioned, and for the third one I’d gamble on Joseph Addai. I like his match-up with the Jaguars, with the Colts expected to go up a score or two early, they could start running the ball for once (I know, a novel idea!) I have Clayton and Knox listed at basically the exact same spot on my rankings, so you could flip a coin on them if you’re not digging Addai this week.

So, I’ve got MJD, Ronnie Brown, Moreno(who is out for the week), and Green-Ellis. I’m for sure starting MJD. With Green-Ellis not incredibly established, and Ronnie Brown being somewhat inconsistent thus far(and now reportedly having a bit of a hamstring issue), I’m not sure who to start. So, Brown, or Green-Ellis? Whattaya think, Brandon?

Go with Ronnie Brown. Not sold on Green-Ellis at this point, even as a Pats fan 🙂

Added Gore and Cincinnati was on there. I like Gore this week (and most weeks!) Good luck

So according to this, you would play Jahvid Best over John Kuhn? I’ve heard Best is doing better with his injury, so now I’m trying to weigh the players themselves against the defenses they’re facing (Kuhn has an easier matchup).

Kuhn is still a backup on a pass-first team, while Best is starting. Go with Best.

Concerned with R. Mathews and A. Johnson situation..and my back up options are less than. Do I go Tolbert and do I dare sit Johnson?? Injury and going against great CB. D.Thomas and Crabtree are my options unless I go to the waiver??

Keep Mathews and AJ in there with those alternatives.

Uh oh, latest tweet by Adam Schefter not looking good for AJ. Throw Demaryius Thomas in there instead if you can’t risk the goose egg!

Can you add Garrard and Kevin Walter.

      • Brandon 12:11 pm on October 3, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Added them. I like Walter, hate Garrard.

And for a flex spot who do you like, Mark Clayton or Vernon Davis?

Clayton. Still worried about the 49ers offense until they show something.

Whats your reasoning to play Seattle D over
      the Jets D?

      • Brandon 12:45 pm on October 3, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Chance of big play in kick return game, as well as Steven Jackson’s injury possibly turning the Rams in to a one dimensional team. If Bradford throws enough, there will have to be chances for turnovers. Jets may keep Bills in check, but odds of big plays could be a bit less.
