User Requested Player Ranks – Week 5

As I’ve mentioned previously, this year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. This week I’ve kicked off the lists with the top five players at each position. For a permalink to the rankings for the week, view the Google Docs spreadsheet here.

Added them. Put MJD as my top running back of the week due to his solid outing last week and the fact that the Bills are the worst team in the NFL against the run!

I need a backup for Brady this week..

Who would you roll with between…. Garrard, Hill, Kolb, Orton?

      • Brandon 9:15 am on October 7, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’d roll the dice with Kevin Kolb. Orton has been the best by far this year, but he plays against an awesome Ravens defense IN Baltimore. As long as Kolb stays in the full game, he should put up some solid numbers.

and in a 1 PPR league flex spot, Kevin Walter/Cedric Benson?

Check on the health of Andre Johnson and Jacoby Jones later in the week. Both are injured and it could mean Kevin Walter is the main man for Houston. However, you’re most likely going to want to start Benson in that spot.

      • Brandon 2:02 pm on October 7, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Added them. When I add players, I try to rank them as if I was filling out my roster and positioning players at the top that I would start. Just because I have a player ranked high doesn’t automatically mean I predict a huge game from them, just that I like their chances more than whoever happens to be on the list at the moment a bit less.

Alright, that makes it more clear for me. thank you.
          But here is my dilemma.
          I have 6
          Start 5.

          RB MJD
          RB CJ
          RB Bradshaw
          WR Wayne
          WR Boldin
          WR Austin

my wuestion really is Bradshaw or Austin i suppose.

I also have Torain and P. Thomas. but i think that my other options have the greater upside.

          • Brandon 11:48 am on October 10, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’d bench Miles Austin I guess…tough one there with such a great line-up! I just see Brashaw getting the most touches between he and Austin and will have the best chance to find the endzone. Good luck!

      WR Maclin and Cowboys DST?

      • Brandon 2:03 pm on October 7, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Got them on there. I think Maclin does alright this week as long as Kolb can stay in for the entire game (or if Vick comes back and starts the whole game…which would be surprising.) It’s the games where the starter gets hurt that Maclin and DeSean Jackson have had difficulty with.

Can you explain why a commissioner would reject the following trade:

      Marques Colston + Ryan Mathews
      for
      Calvin Johnson + BenJarvus Green-Ellis

      Doesn’t seem fair to me!

      • Brandon 8:46 am on October 8, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Not sure why the commissioner would reject the trade. At first glance it seems that the CJ/BJGE guy is getting ripped off, but if Colston doesn’t pick it up and Green-Ellis stays the primary back in NE, it’s not that lopsided of a deal. The commish shouldn’t be intervening unless he thinks there’s some conspiring going on between teams to make a super team or something. Is that the case? πŸ™‚

        • Aaron Dhiman 6:12 pm on October 12, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Right. Commish said CJ had more points than Colston and Mathews combined, and he wouldn’t take into account the fact that Mathews was hurt for a couple of games. We worked out the trade by substituting Steve Smith (Giants) for Colston, which is basically all the same to me.

Yeah, sometimes the Commish gets too active!

For a flex running back week 5 my options are ladell betts, b wells, Hightower, or lesean McCoy (I see McCoy is now listed to play week 5). What’s your thoughts? Thnx again!

      • Brandon 11:01 am on October 9, 2010 Permalink | Reply

They’re all basically splitting carries, but I’d go with Ladell Betts. He’s healthy and should see more action in the Saints passing game over his partner in crime (Chris Ivory.) Wells/Hightower are going to get shut down as the defense won’t even give quarterback Max Hall the time of the day. LeSean McCoy’s fractured rib worries me, so I’d keep him on the bench. Good luck!

    Randy Moss headed to Minnesota

GREEN BAY, WI - JANUARY 9: Wide receiver Randy Moss #84 of the Minnesota Vikings talks with a teammate against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card game at Lambeau Field on January 9, 2005 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Vikings defeated the Packers 31-17. (Photo by Brian Bahr/Getty Images)It’s official, Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has been traded today to the Minnesota Vikings for a 3rd round draft pick next season. As a Patriots fan, I’m not even sure how I feel about this really. There’s no real way to say how valuable he’s been to the Patriots in weeks where he catches zero passes, but still distracts defenses. I guess we’ll find out soon!

In terms of fantasy, I don’t see this trade really hurting anyone’s value. Brandon Tate becomes the heir-apparent as the deep threat in New England, so pick him up ASAP! Patriots rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez will continue to see more looks from Tom Brady as well. Brett Favre will obviously have a great target and his numbers should get a bit better and I’m sure he’ll force the ball to Moss all day long, so Randy’s value increases too.

Tom Brady’s value is a question mark, but I have a feeling that in the end, he’ll still be putting up numbers like he has so far this year. I can’t see Wes Welker’s numbers changing all that much either, as he’ll continue to be Brady’s favorite target, but is used primarily on the short throws. He could get some more looks in the redzone though I guess.

Maybe the Pats trade Moss and scoop up Vincent Jackson? I wouldn’t be completely against that πŸ™‚

Should I add Brandon Tate WR-NE or Danny Woodhead WR-NE?

      • Brandon 2:20 pm on October 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I assume Tate will be a more consistent part of the offense and is worth a pickup for sure, especially if your league awards points for special teams return yards or points.

Just traded Larry Fitz, Randy Moss, Ryan Torain, and Dustin Keller for Calvin Johnson, Eddie Royal, Ryan Matthews, and Dallas Clark.

      Good trade, right?

      • Brandon 2:47 pm on October 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

At this point, with the Randy Moss trade going down this morning, it’s really hard to tell who will win in this trade. I think you probably ended up with the better side of the deal, which is pretty interesting considering where the players ranked at the beginning of the season. However, if Moss turns out to be a monster for the Vikings, you may regret this trade…you’ll have to wait and see though πŸ™‚

      • Brandon 2:24 pm on October 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Even with Randy Moss on the Vikings now, I think you stick with the hot hand of Mark Sanchez. He’s got home field advantage and who knows what kind of throws Favre will force in there to get the ball to Randy Moss. If the Randy Moss-to-Vikings experiment works out, maybe you switch the two in the future, but not this week.

By the way, I’ve added them to our ranks for this week, so check it out:

      • Brandon 2:28 pm on October 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Orton has been on fire, but he’s playing against a Ravens team that is allowing an insane 119 yards per game through the air and has only allowed one passing touchdown. Stick with Palmer against a softer TB defense.
