    Not to dance on Romo's freshly-smushed …

Not to dance on Romo’s freshly-smushed shoulder or anything, but if he’s going to be out for any length of time, Jon Kitna just got interesting. Remember 2007 and the franchise-record 4,000 yards he threw for Detroit? Just sayin’ is all.

UPDATE 10:17pm – It’s a broken clavicle. Kitna looks terrible so far but is still an interesting pickup given the weapons around him.

    • Squish 3:06 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I agree, I just grabbed him in a start 2QB league where I needed some help. No way he plays worse than Campbell from here on out and Campbell is the only starting QB still on waivers in my league. Lucky find!

    • Brandon 8:58 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Kitna’s numbers at the end of the game weren’t too shabby…although his completion percentage wasn’t anything to write home about. Is Dez Bryant Kitna’s favorite receiver in Dallas?

      • Matt 9:24 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Give Kitna a week to practice with the first team and he’ll be worthy of a fantasy start against the Jags. Weapons: Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Felix Jones… yeah.

I have a trade question on the Romo thing. The person who has Romo in my league has also been carrying around Stafford as her backup, so she really doesn’t have a usable QB right now. I have two: Schaub and Roethlisberger. I could use some help at RB, I only have 3 on my whole team: Mendenhall, Best and Charles. So do I A) offer her one of my QBs in exchange for Cedric Benson or Ryan Torain [her only other good RB is AP] or B) keep both my QBs and continue playing whoever has the better matchup each week?

      • Squish 11:42 pm on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

It’s worth trying a trade but somehow I doubt one will happen. Stafford is expected to play this week. That being said, Schaub for Benson probably wouldn’t be a bad trade to offer. Torain looks solid now but I’m not sure he’ll keep it up. It is the Redskins after all and they rarely have the same starting RB for more than a few weeks in a row.

Assuming you only start two RBs, I think your team is fine as it is since you’ve cleared your bye week problems. I’d personally just keep the team you have.

Kevin Kolb sure made it easy for Andy Reid to announce that Michael Vick would start in week 9, eh? I guess that’s what 231 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, and 1 fumble lost will do. Kind of a crappy deal for Kolb though…

    • Eric 7:04 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

really crapy deal for Kolb considering if they had scored and not fumbled in the red-zone before the half, they probably go on to win and Kolb may be looking at another opportunity to start, what do you think?

Another question… i have matt ryan and roddy white going into their bye week. Any thoughts on a qb to pick up? and should i start santonio holmes or is there a sleeper to pick up at wr?

      • Brandon 8:37 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Who knows what goes through the mind of Andy Reid when making a quarterback decision 🙂

In terms of your quarterback situation though, you might consider Ryan Fitzpatrick. For some reason it’s hard for me to buy into the hype, but he’s now put together a string of solid outings and it seems that Lee Evans, Steve Johnson and Roscoe Parrish are giving him some targets to throw to. Matthew Stafford returns this week as well, in case he appeals to you.

At wide receiver, go with Santonio Holmes. The Jets will have had an extra week to work on getting Holmes integrated in the offense and could have a decent game.

        • Matt 8:43 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Kansas City’s giving up 244 yards per game through the air, so Fitzpatrick could be a nice plug-in given that his big game last week came against the Ravens’ normally-tough D. The Bills finally seem to have found an offensive identity of sorts – far too late to save their season, of course, but enough to play spoiler a few times.

          • Brandon 8:49 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

They make me very nervous for the next Bills/Pats game, considering the New England secondary has been less-than-spectacular so far this year and it would be very fitting to see someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick go out and light them up.

The Wire – Week 8 pick-ups: Johnson and Gettis and Britt, oh my!

Here are the potential waiver wire targets for the upcoming week. This week we got some huge performances from some borderline fantasy starters (and David Gettis.) Maybe next week they’ll all be starting and can disappoint a lot of people out there…just kidding, maybe. Anyways, I’ve included my thoughts on each player, as well as the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

    • Jack 1:39 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

      hey brandon-

definitely should’ve played steve johnson. ended up getting a nice goose egg from donald driver.

is it time to part ways with any of these guys? forsett, benjarvus, amendola, louis murphy?

I have roddy white and ATL Def on bye. Someone just picked up you’re recommended TB def, so what is your 2nd def of the week? possibly dallas? And at this point, do you drop ATL DEF or drop one of the above players for a DEF?

      thanks a lot!

      • Jack 3:10 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

sorry one more q: what about dropping mcnabb for fitzpatrick? romo is my starter.
if dallas falls out of the playoff picture after tonights game, does romo’s value go way down?
        thanks again.

        • Brandon 3:39 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Romo’s value won’t go way down at any point in the season unless he gets hurt. It’s not like the team packs it up and turns the offense over to the back-up once the team looks like they’re playoff chances are shot. In terms of McNabb and Fitzpatrick though, that’s a tough one. Fitzpatrick is playing out of his mind right now and is definitely worth an add to your team. Anyway you can carry three quarterbacks? Maybe you could drop Louis Murphy for the time being.

      • Brandon 3:36 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I thought you were going to play Donald Driver AND Steve Johnson? Who’d you play instead?

As for the guys you mention, you might as well hang on to them for another week unless there is a hot waiver wire add in your league.

Feel free to drop the Atlanta defense and switch to a defense-of-the-week technique (unless your league penalizes for number of transactions.) Another solid defense in week 8 is Dallas, as you mention. Even Denver could be decent, even if they did just get blown up by Oakland. They play a 49ers team that could be starting David Carr.

        • Jack 4:56 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

          hey Brandon,
I ended up going with amendola, driver, roddy. don’t remember why i paniced on johnson. amendola produced decent points so that was a relief.

i just dropped murphy for gettis, a longshot i know, but im weak on WRs still.

The Question now is, do I drop james starks for Dal DEF or def-of-week technique it by dropping ATL def. Do you think ATL’s def is solid from here on out?

            Hey brandon,
how can this be with romo?
with mcnabb, but do I drop any of the above guys for kitna, or fitzpatrick now?

You might drop Tony Romo at this point. I’ve seen estimates as early as 2 games, but more likely he comes back in around 6-8 or something. With the Cowboys season in the tank, I can’t see them rushing him back. He might just be a waste of a roster spot at this point, especially since his numbers weren’t any better than Fitzpatrick’s have been lately!

Fitzpatrick or Sancez as my backup going forward and specifically for week 8 as I have Flacco on a bye. Thanks for the help/

      • Brandon 8:41 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Right now it seems that Fitzpatrick is the guy you want. The Bills offense seems to be coming together and the passing game is really picking up. Unlike the Jets, the Bills don’t have two great runners to turn to (they have two dynamic backs, who can catch passes though!)

    • TJ 1:37 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Hernandez or O-Daniels going forward as a backup to Vernon Davis ( may need it soon – David Carr does not look good for VD)

At WR, would you choose any of the ones above (Britt, Bess, Johnson) over Branch, TB Williams, Knox? I have room for 1 more, White is on bye next week and I need to plug someone in to start next to Garcon and for later/playoffs (I have Lloyd, but wondering we’ve just passed the Bronco’s peak and it’s time for their annual meltdown).

Is anyone else happy to see Ray Rice has a bye this week?

      • Brandon 8:47 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Although I’m a Patriots fan, I think I’m leaning towards Daniels actually for your backup tight end. Hernandez is getting looks and can put up decent yardage, but I think the Texans will actually look for Owen Daniels in the redzone…something New England hasn’t done yet with Hernandez.

At wide receiver, definitely pick up Kenny Britt for Deion Branch. At this point I think I like Steve Johnson over Mike Williams as well, as I have more faith in Ryan Fitzpatrick than Josh Freeman at quarterback and Johnson is on fire!

I like Bess too though, so if you don’t get the other guys, put in a claim for him too.

As for Ray Rice, I’m not very happy with him at the moment. Between benching Darren McFadden and having Chris Johnson and Rice put up crappy performances in games where their team scored tons of points, I lost a match-up I should have won by a mile 🙁

Will TB DEF do better this week than Seattle against Oakland?

Also, I have Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, Greg Jennings, Kenny Britt, Deion Branch and Sidney Rice. Should I start Britt over Johnson, Wayne or Jennings this week? Is there any reason to hold on to Rice or is he just wasting bench space?

      • Brandon 8:25 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I like the Tampa Bay defense over Seattle this week. At wide receiver, you might consider starting Britt over Jennings (never thought I’d say that!) as Jennings plays the Jets this week and Antonio Cromartie should have pretty good coverage on him. Keep Wayne and AJ in there though. As for Rice, I’m not expecting a whole lot from him this year. Feel free to drop him for a serviceable WR3 if there’s one available.

      You guys jinxed Romo!!

      So now that he’s jinxed

I have a QB problem. I want to just DROP Cutler. I have Mark Sanchez and Alex Smith. Does it make sense for me to pick up Jon Kinta ? If so, who should I drop? Cutler ? So for Alex Smith’s season totals are better than Sanchez.

      • AtlantaJJ 12:30 pm on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Oh and since we are talking defense of the week. (I like that idea)

I currently own Redskins and Lions. Seattle is looking good and available on the waiver wire. The other available teams are: Dallas, Colts, Browns (bye) and Jacksonville.

The Redskins play the Lions week 8. Who should I pick up,or should I keep the Redskins and Lions. Who should I start. I’m running low on cash so I have to bid low.

        • AtlantaJJ 7:07 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Well I had to answer my own question. I dropped the Lions and got Seattle. I also dropped Lance Moore, and picked up Jon Kinta to fill in for Cutler. I’m going to hold on to Cutler for now. If I had a good QB I would be a play off contender. I have Sanchez, Alex Smith, Cutler, and now Kinta.

          • Brandon 8:22 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Oops, sorry I didn’t get to this one! I saw it last night but forgot to reply. At quarterback, if you still can, drop Alex Smith and pick up either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Matthew Stafford. As for defense, Seattle should do alright against the Raiders (who definitely won’t score 59 points again.)

The Romo jinx. QBs drop like flies with me as an owner. I would like to offer up a trade in my league and need your help!! Who should I offer up to get either Big Ben or Schaub?…my team

      Romo-out
      Bradshaw
      Lynch
      Torain
      Mathews
      Tolbert
      A. Johnson
      J.Maclin
      M.Crabtree
      S. Holmes
      D.Thomas
      Z. Miller
      K
      Def
I was going to try for Fitzpatrick as well. I read in an earlier post that dropping Romo should be okay. Still thinking that?

      • Brandon 8:18 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Hopefully this isn’t too late, but feel free to drop Romo for Kitna, Fitzpatrick or Stafford at this point. There is talk that he’s done for the season now. As for offering a trade for Roethlisberger or Schaub, it all depends on what the other teams needs are.

      • JM 10:34 pm on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Wasn’t too late. Thanks for the input. Now..I grabbed Fitzpatrick but feel I need more QB depth. The guy says he needs rbs and WRs. Not specific but I wan’t to be fair. Who would you offer, from my list, for Schaub?? And also looking to add a WR. Who do you like out of Lee Evans, Davone Bess and Mike Williams(Sea)?

        • Brandon 8:41 am on October 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

That’s a tough one, because the only guys that are viable one-for-one with Schaub are some of the best guys you have at each position really (Bradshaw/Torain/Maclin.) I guess you could offer Maclin and replace him with Mike Williams. I like Evans and Williams though, so see if you can scoop them up if you end up trading away some of your receiver depth.

In desperate need of immediate help, so any advice is greatly appreciated

12 team league here’s my lineup

      QB:Peyton Manning
      QB:John Kitna
      WR:Mike Thomas
      WR:Deion Branch
      RB:Jamaal Charles
      RB:Brandon Jackson
      TE:Vernon Davis
      W/T:Jermaine Gresham
      W/R:Steve Johnson
      W/R:Dexter McCluster

      Bench:
      D. Mason WR BAL
      D. Jackson WR PHI
      S. Holmes WR NYJ

Should I shuffle these at all?

Thinking of trying to get Hasslebeck instead of Kitna, just because he’s a sort of known quantity…

      Some notable availables:

      L. Blount RB TB
      B. White WR IND
      D. Brown RB IND
      P. Garcon WR IND
      M. Floyd WR SD
      M. Tolbert RB SD
      K. Walter WR HOU
      P. Crayton WR SD

Would you recommend any of these moving forward?

Also, any names I should keep an eye out for as far as pickups?

Apparently the Colts President, Bill Polian, claims that Tamme can do everything offensively that Dallas Clark could do, so take that for whatever it’s worth. He’s worth a gamble if you’re in a bind this week or want to stash him for later if he turns out alright, but if you have a decent option this week, go with the decent option instead of Tamme.

Of course you all had these guys on your active rosters!

fantasy football top 7 for week 7

Did anyone start multiple players on this list? I had 2 on my bench, but that’s not worth a whole lot…

    • Marques 12:23 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I didn’t have any of these players on my roster, but of course I did face off against the guy that had Roddy White. It was great seeing Roddy in such a high scoring game and the Patriots/Chargers in such a low scoring mistake driven game (i.e. I had Welker and Crayton going).

    • Brandon 1:45 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Adding to the amazing-ness is the efficiency of these guys. If Lee Evans catches two passes…he scores a touchdown. Britt is just slightly less efficient, requiring 2.3 catches for a score. McFadden rushes for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 16 carries, while catching a touchdown on just two receptions. Roddy White was obviously slacking off, requiring over five catches to find the endzone 🙂

    • AtlantaJJ 4:20 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I feel guilty because I sent a link to an article about Kenny Britt’s legal troubles to a fellow FF league member on Saturday so that she would be aware since he’s on her team. It appears she benched him as a result. I explicitly stated he would play but would not start. I’m afraid to go back to our message board now.

      • Brandon 4:24 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Now you know how the fantasy football “experts” feel every Monday morning when they open their e-mail after handing out advice to tons of people, hah. But honestly, at first glance when I saw that Kenny Britt wasn’t starting I assumed they were saying he wouldn’t play. I had heard a rumor that he might sit out a game for misconduct or something, so maybe it was in the back of my mind. It’s the team owner’s fault though if they don’t do the proper research!

    • ceejay 8:30 pm on October 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I had 130 pts sitting the bench in the form of Britt, Fitzpatrick, Steve Johnson, and McFadden. Meanwhile, my 10 starters will get me only 90 pts (if 2 players do well tonight: Roy Williams and Ahmad Bradshaw).

    • Squish 3:04 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Playing Seattle defense and Billy Cundiff almost universally this week won me about 5 games. Roddy White accounted for the rest 🙂

Back at the top of my money league and basking in trade offers for my QB stable. I’ve maneuvered it so I have Eli, Carson, Stafford, and McNabb on my team at the same time. The guy with Favre and Kolb is practically begging me for one of them 🙂

      • Brandon 8:39 am on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

That’s a nice spot to be in…but why haven’t you traded one of those QB’s? Get some value for them while you can! Unless you start three quarterbacks, hah

        • Squish 11:52 pm on October 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

LOL well I started the season with Palmer, Eli and McNabb expecting one of them to break out but through 5 weeks none of them had been consistently good enough to garner trade interest. Seeing that stafford may start this week I went ahead and monopolized him too.

To be honest, it’s really tough to get a trade done in this league. The best offer to date that I’ve had is Palmer and Foster for Colston and Holmes. Not exactly heaven. Right now I’m just hanging onto them to keep other teams from having them. My team as it stands is:

QB – Eli, Palmer, McNabb, Stafford
WR – White, Wayne, Williams (SEA), Cribbs, Hester, (1 pt per 15 return yards)
RB – Rice, Foster, Best, Forsett
          TE – Heath Miller

As you can plainly see, it’d be difficult for me to improve at WR given my trade bait. really, none of my QB’s could buy me a guy to upgrade at any position. My goal was to have a better TE after trading but nobody is open to deals.

Which of those 4 QBs would you trade if given the option? And who would I target for a fair trade to upgrade at WR or RB?

          • Brandon 11:05 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

You could package Palmer and Mike Williams for an upgrade at WR, seeing as how they’re both coming off big games. Who does the guy with Favre/Kolb have for receivers…since he might not have a QB this week!

          • Squish 7:07 pm on October 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

The guy with Favre/Kolb has almost all elite WRs as he went value based draft and WRs hung around awhile. He managed AJ, Marshall, Colston, and now also has TO and Holmes. Other than Holmes it would be hard to get at one of his elites since they will score more in the flex spot than most RBs. It’s a 3WR and 1 flex league so he’s not sitting any of those guys. I personally don’t feel Holmes would improve my roster and I am first in the league so I hesitate to make any drastic moves.

I offered him Palmer for Colston straight up which is about as fair as a single player deal will get. I’m waiting for a response. I’m not big at offering Williams since he’s had more targets than all of his WRs but Owens since Branch left. I think Williams could be a borderline WR1 the rest of the season. I might offer Cribbs and Palmer for a couple of his Wrs. Since it’s a return yardage league and he’s desperate he may bite. I’ll let you know when I hear the response to the first trade offer.
