The Wire – Week 5 pick-ups: Another crop of back-up running backs
Here are your potential waiver wire pick-ups for week 5. If you’re a Tom Brady owner, I seriously recommend that you consider Sam Bradford as your quarterback this week, as he has a great match-up with the Lions. Other players of intrigue this week include Ryan Torain, Mike Tolbert, Davone Bess, and Brandon Pettigrew, so take a look and see if any of these guys can help your squad overcome some injuries and bye weeks…

Brandon, I’m absolutely devastated with my second WR (14-team league) – anyways, I currently have Steve Johnson starting, but I’m doubting that. I got Murphy on the bench (not sure if he’ll play against SD) …. so on the waiver wire, we’ve got Naanee (umm I dropped him, so no way), Mike Thomas, or Danny Amendola …
I think Thomas and Amendola have great matchups, but should I drop Steve Johnson for one of them, and which one?

Hmm, not sure those guys are all that much of upgrades over Johnson. They’re all guys who will catch 3-6 passes, but Johnson apparently knows how to find the endzone. Don’t bother with Naanee though…that guys a fluke until he has another big game!

Time to add Lynch!

Yup … someone dropped him in my league the other night and I immediately picked him up. It’s a league where there is no waiver wire, so that was a good move. I also got Spiller on my bench, so maybe he will see some upside as well …
By the way, as per my previous question above, Mike Thomas just got picked up by someone, but the person who picked him up dropped MSW … both Jags receivers (funny) … so who should I pick up now?

Not sure I’d bother with Sims-Walker either. Stick with Steve Johnson for now…even if he is a Buffalo Bill.

Cool, that is what I was thinking. Oh, but one more thing – I just noticed that Laurent Robinson might be ready to return for the Rams; should I pick him up?

He’s already there! Time to update his Notes though. However, I’m not sure I’m diggin’ his new digs. The Seahawks offense is pathetic for the most part.

If you had the opportunity to drop either Dwayne Bowe or Kevin Walter for Brandon Tate, would you do it? Which one would you drop (and why)?

Was just looking at Dwayne Bowe’s stats and was surprised at how terrible he was doing this year. I’d almost say to drop Bowe for Tate, but given that Bowe is the first option in an offense that doesn’t have many other options in the passing game, you might hang on to him for another week or so and see if he gets more involved.
