The Wire – Week 6 pick-ups: Mark Clayton out for the year and Patriots players galore!
Here are your potential waiver wire pick-ups for week 6. I missed the mark a bit last week with the Sam Bradford prediction, but who knew the Rams would look so terrible against the Lions?! Anyways, this week’s top players are Danny Amendola, who becomes the top receiver in St. Louis with Mark Clayton suffering a season-ending injury. I like Brandon Tate and Aaron Hernandez now that Randy Moss is out of town. Also, Roy Williams and Felix Jones seem to be starter-worthy fantasy players now. Anyways, take a look and see if any of these guys can help your squad overcome some injuries and bye weeks…

I’d grab Crabtree for sure. With the new offensive coordinator in town he’s seeing a lot more targets than before. It’s only a matter of time before he matches the numbers people were expecting of him before the season.
At TE I like Pettigrew more than the others listed due to him being a favorite target of hill. He’s currently 8th among TEs in targets which is a great factor to go by. Also consider adding Heath Miller if he’s out there since he’s an elite (top 5) TE when Big Ben is around.

I agree with “J” on this one, but favor Aaron Hernandez slightly over Pettigrew, just because of the potential upside now that Randy Moss is out of town. Grab Crabtree though.

Hey Guys, like everyone else here I got pummeled yesterday (Clayton, Foster, Schaub starting….). But’s it’s only my first loss, so life isn’t all bad. A few questions:
WR – All these guys are available FAs – who to pick for Clayton? (I was thinking Tate, but really not as tuned into the NE scene as you, Brandon…) Have: White, Collie, Floyd, Lloyd
- Tate, R Williams, M Williams, Bess, Britt, Amendola, MSW, Braylon
QB: Time to pick up a Schaub backup, would prefer a longer-term option: Freeman, Young, Smith – leaning toward Freeman, but just don’t love any of them. Also available are Hill, Hasselback, Garrard, Oakland QBs, Fitzpatrick & Cassel…. really bottom feeding here. One possibility might be to offer to trade to a fellow owner: She has Brees AND Rodgers (!) – and the rest of her team is weak, especially at WR, could maybe offer one of my WRs for Rodgers (tho hard to pick which one…..). Ideally she’d be clueless enough to take a one-for-one trade of Schaub for Rodgers, seeing how he’s concussed and all and she has no QB for wk 10, but I don’t know if that will fly.
RB – Ryan Torain and the ‘Skins line seemed a little underwhelming yesterday. Still worth holding? Lynch, Spiller, BJGE available.

I’d take a flyer on Tate but I don’t think you really need any help at Wr. The guy you pick up will see little playing time. Out of those options, only MSW has as much upside as Tate. Brandon will definitely tell you to go with MSW.
At QB it’s a tossup. I’d just play it week to week by matchup. None of those guys really stick out. Normally I’d lke Hill the best but CJ’s shoulder injury could greatly decrease his value. that being said, I think he’s going to get the Lions an NFL record for most passes to a TE in a season. (Currently at 71). That being said, I don’t like his matchups the next couple weeks and I’m betting Stafford will be back soon enough. I’d take Freeman and hope it works out.
I think you have to hang with Torain at least until after next week. They play the horrible Indy run defense and he could be in for a huge day.

Hah, Squish thinks he knows me so well, but unfortunately I can’t recommend Sims-Walker on this one.
I actually Brandon Tate in your situation, since you have enough starters at the position and are looking for upside primarily. If you wanted an instant starter though, Braylon Edwards and Roy Williams seem pretty solid.
At quarterback, I think I like David Garrard the most due to the touchdowns he’s been throwing these days. At running back, stick with Torain for now.

Thanks, for advice on the WRs, don’t need an immediate starter so may just sit on Tate for a while.
Looks like the other owner is OK with trading me Rogers for Schaub….might come back to burn me in wk 10 when I face her and Schaub has Jac (or if Rodgers gets whacked again….), but right now I’m thinking even a banged up Rodgers is a better bet than Schaub, who is just not looking sharp lately
What do you guys think of D’s this week – any bottom-feeders you think might shine? NE, Det, OAK, ATL, WAS, SEA…… a

I just picked up Tennessee in one of my leagues and they should be decent if they’re available. Atlanta has been solid this year and they’ll be playing Kevin Kolb, who I would say the jury is still out on if he’s a legit NFL quarterback or not. I’d probably go with them out of the group.

I think Heath Miller is worth adding this week now that Big Ben will be playing again. He’s consistently a top 5 TE when Big Ben is healthy. He’s widely available and with Big Ben shaking the rest off and missing Holmes as a target, I’d expect Miller to have the best stretch of fantasy numbers he’s ever seen from here on out.

Not sure about the whole top 5 TE thing with Heath Miller. Looking at his stats from the past few years (click the 2009, 5Y, 3Y, 2Y filters,) he seems to be around 8-12, so a borderline TE1 for a team. This year I expect more of the same, especially with the abundance of solid players at the position.

Sorry we didn’t get to this before waivers cleared (at least I assume they did.) I like Steve Johnson, as it appears he’s become Ryan Fitzpatrick’s favorite target in Buffalo, but he’s on a bye this week so that won’t help you out a lot if you’re in a bind. Mike Thomas is alright in a PPR league, but won’t score a whole lot. On the other end is Kenny Britt, who probably won’t catch as many passes, but is finding the endzone with regularity these days. If you’re feeling especially risky, you could go with Dwayne Bowe, even with his terrible game of drops last week. The Chiefs play a terrible Houston pass defense and this could be a chance for Bowe to redeem himself.

I don’t recall ever saying that we wrote this blog only for fantasy football experts. Plenty of beginners visit the site and checking the ownership percentages in Yahoo, it doesn’t appear that these players are owned in 90% of leagues. For example…
- Danny Amendola: 29%
- Deion Branch: 15%
- Marcedes Lewis: 57%
- Steve Johnson: 18%
- Aaron Hernandez: 52%
- Mike Hart: 5%
If you want a comprehensive list to satisfy the experts, I’m sure the Talented Mr. Roto Matthew Berry or someone like him can help you out. This blog is mostly a place where people can ask questions, help others out, etc. Once we start getting paid the big bucks, then we’ll make a specific list of waiver wire adds ONLY for expert players, which only includes a few select players that we’re sure aren’t taken in the experienced leagues out there.

Hey guys, can you give me some help evaluating this trade offer. Here is my team: Mcnabb, Vick & Freeman @ QB – Ray Rice, Pierre Thomas, Felix Jones, and Tolbert @ RB- Brandon Marshall, Ochocinco, B Lloyd, Brandon Tate, Nate Washington, & Vincent Jackson @ WR.
We start 1 QB, 2 RB’s, 3 WR’s and a QB/WR/RB/TE Flex.
I have been offered BJGE for Brandon Tate. What are your thoughts? I am leaning towards making the trade, because of injury worries for Thomas, and the emergence of Ryan Matthews. Thoughts?

Hmm, not a huge fan of this trade. I think Tolbert should continue to see carries and should have nearly as much upside as Green-Ellis for the remainder of the year. It seems Felix Jones is emerging as a decent option at RB, so you can start him and Ray Rice at the position. Brandon Tate is all upside at this point and could end up being your flex play for the rest of the year. Maybe you can trade Nate Washington for BJGE?

OK. Thanks for the help. I dont think he is taking Washinton for BJGE!!! And Washington does still have the Jags on the schedule twice. It hurts to even make that joke, i am a huge Jags fan!

I think I’d gamble on Amendola to be honest. Even in a non-PPR league, the Rams are going to be getting pounded by the Chargers and I assume they’ll throw the ball about 50 times or so as they try to keep up. Amendola should see even more looks now that Mark Clayton is out for the year.

However, the Seahawks are giving up a ton of passing hards and Jay Cutler is returning for the Bears. I’d say the highest risk/reward is Knox, but the safer bet is Amendola.
