The Wire – Week 11 pick-ups: Did you survive the bye week blues?
As week 11 approaches, bye weeks are finally over and there’s a good chance your team is closing in on clinching a playoff spot. The trade deadline is most likely passed in a lot of leagues (or about to pass) and you’ll be relying on free agent pick-ups to get you past any injuries your team might face. So with that in mind, here are the potential waiver wire targets for the upcoming week. The herd is thinning at this point and you shouldn’t be relying on these guys to carry you through the playoffs, but maybe they can get you through to the next week. As always, we’ve included the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…
Here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet, in case you’re into that kind of stuff.

Hey guys -
Which D/St do you like this week: SD, Cle, Atl, Ari, Sea, Oak, Stl, Indy. Playoffs are wks 14-16, any of those worth holding onto beyond week 11?

I like Atlanta going forward. They have to play New Orleans in week 16, but it’s in Atlanta and they’ll be playing tough for a playoff seed.

Is it crazy that I want to pick up QB Troy Smith?? I have Fitzpatrick and need some spark. My season may be down the toilet anyway.

It’s not totally crazy, but a little bit. I still don’t trust Troy Smith over a lot of waiver wire quarterbacks out there (Kitna, Cassel, Garrard, etc.) If your season is down the toilet though, give it a shot!

Kitna, Cassel and Garrard have been long owned. McNabb and Hill are also available. What defense do you like going forward?? I have NYG but don’t love the schedule. Available are- NO, NE, SD, DAL, CLE, STL, Indy and MIA.

Hey guys – TE is killing my squad (that and sitting Wallce on the bench in favor of R Moss!)
I currently have Aaron Hernandez as my starter (had Finley so had to scramble)
I am thinking of dropping Garcon in favor of picking up one of the TE’s you mentioned on your list. My recievers are pretty solid already (Megatron/Nicks/Wallace/R-Moss) so I can afford to drop Garcon I think.
Would you recommend a bit of a stash hoping one of those guys steps up and can upgrade my at TE? And if so – who would you recommend with a move like that?

Hey Brian, as for Mike Wallace, start him over Randy Moss every week from here on out. As for your tight end, I think you have to stick with Aaron Hernandez. He has upside every week and last week was his first 0 catch game of the season (not bad for a rookie.) You could risk it with Gronkowski, who has more of a chance to score a touchdown, but he probably won’t rack up as much yardage. Either way, I don’t think you need to stock pile tight ends. While Garcon has been a disappointment, keep him around just in case. Good luck!

Maybe you could trade Randy Moss to some guy who’s still a fan of him for a solid tight end? You could package Hernandez and Moss for Vernon Davis or something? Just a thought.
