Week 13 FAIL: Bowe or Orton cost you the playoffs?

Here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

With week 13 being the last of the regular season in many fantasy football leagues, I’m interested in seeing which players you might be blaming for your team missing the playoffs? Was it Dwayne Bowe who followed up several amazing weeks with a goose egg? Maybe it was Kyle Orton who decided he wanted his coach fired? Let’s hear it!

I’ve included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a separate worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up. As usual, drama-king himself, Brett Favre continues to lead the pack!

Anyways, here are the rest of them (and here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet)…
    (More …)

You guys missed one. Mike Williams of Seattle got injured right away during his game and never returned leaving with a wopping 0 points. I benched Sidney Rice in favor of him. Played Wells over Best too 🙁

Thank God I was playing the Gore owner and have Foster and Wayne. It was a must win week and the only team in the league that did worse than mine was my opponents lol.

70 points from the starters, 72 points on the bench, needed 75 for a win. Starting QB – Kyle Orton (3 pts), benched QB – Big Ben (16 pts). Starting WR – Manningham (1.3 pts), on the bench – Boldin (12.75 pts). Starting D/ST – Chicago (5 pts), on ht ebench – Cleveland (14 pts). Makes me wanna scream like Charlie Brown!!
Oh well, still in the playoffs and ready to CRUSH the “competition”

Orton killed me, but the low scoring affair in Pittsburgh/Bmore didn’t exactly help my chances.

      I ended up 7th in a 12 team league that advanced 6.

My final team was Orton,Foster,Mendenhall,Djax,M.Wallace,Witten, Boldin.

Fred Jackson rode my bench until this week when he stinks. Replaced boldin for him.

My league was pretty interesting: the top team had 1437 points (standard NFL.com rules) and went 10-3
2nd place only had 1001 and went 9-4.

      I ended up with 1199 and 7th.

Wanna know what lineup gets you 1437 pts?

      Vick, Hillis, C.Johnson, D.Bowe, B. LLoyd, T.Heap, J.Maclin.
Started the redskins D all year…

Someone had Vick, Hillis, Chris Johnson, Bowe, Lloyd and Maclin?! That’s insane. Your squad looked pretty awesome too…surprised you weren’t able to crack the top 6 🙁

Kyle Orton -KILLED ME and my playoff dreams. He cost me the playoffs in two leagues…. 2 points, 2 points. 2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points 2 points

He cost me a first round bye, but luckily I was close to the top so I still made the playoffs as the third seed. Orton was a big reason I did so well this year though, so it’s tough to put ALL the blame on him

Orton has gotta top this list again for his week 14 “performance”. Good thing I had McFadden in the lineup to take up the slack (and then some!).

Man, Orton and the Broncos defense tried their hardest to royally screw me in my most important league, but Darren McFadden and Chris Johnson most likely saved the day! There’s no way I start Kyle Orton again and the Broncos defense is the most pathetic thing known to man. How in the world do you allow some third or fourth stringer and Tim Hightower to completely DOMINATE you?!

I started Orton in the first round of the playoffs in my money league. He didn’t really screw me over since my opponent had Rodgers (who still outscored Orton despite missing most of his game). Fortunately most of the rest of his team crapped out as well while I had DJax, Westbrook, Foster, Winslow, Moore and the PIttsburgh defense all have good games. It led to a 68-point beatdown and a trip to the semi-finals where I have to choose between Orton and Freeman.

I have to decide between Kitna and Freeman (and Orton) so I’ll get back to you once I put up my QB rankings this week. Glad to hear you survived the Orton-storm though 🙂

    Fantasy football playoffs are here!

Earned a bye in one league with a second place finish and ended up in third place in my two other leagues. Looking for this to be my most successful fantasy football season of all time if I can finally put together some decent performances in the playoffs!

I’ve got a dilemma with my RBs for playoffs week 1. I can start two out of Ray Rice, Mendenhall, and Blount….which two do you like this week?

I’ll make sure to add these guys to the rankings once I get them up tomorrow

Can you also add to your WRs: Santonio Holmes, Pierre Garcon, Mike Wallace, Malcom Floyd, and Sidney Rice?

Well, I missed the playoffs in my league. Actually I came in last in my ESPN fantasy league. I used most of your weekly advice but I don’t blame you for my team coming in last.

Sorry to hear that. Was that your only team? Hopefully next year you’ll have better luck, which, in the end, is probably the most important part of fantasy football besides the basics, as much as a lot of the “experts” out there want to disagree.

      2nd place bye here

      • Brandon 11:26 am on December 9, 2010 Permalink | Reply

The only negative to a bye is watching your players (potentially) blow up during a meaningless week. Of course, it also feels good if they all have bad games and you figure they’re saving up the good stuff for your first playoff game!

My Venomous Ducks finished 2nd in my division with a 7-6 record. Just a few weeks ago I was hoping for the 1st round bye, but I just could not make it happen.
I split with my 1st round opponent, so bragging rights are on the line also.
But now it is playoff time!! Win or go home!!

      Good luck to all!
