The Wire – Week 15 pick-ups: Bottom of the Barrel

Not a whole lot to say here regarding waiver wire pick-ups. At this point, if you’re relying on the waiver wire to carry you to victory, you’re in serious trouble. However, maybe you just need to upgrade one minor spot to give you that tiny edge you need to advance to the next round. As always, we’ve included the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

Any chance Collie makes any noise this week?

      • Brandon 9:56 am on December 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Still no real news on Collie. He’s been “practicing” for the past couple weeks but hasn’t ended up playing in the games. I’ll try to keep up to date on the situation though.

So right now i’ve got Blount and Hillis starting at RB and have Westbrook, Addai, Dixon and Choice on the bench. I’m thinking of dropping Choice for Hightower or Torain. Based on upcoming schedule, which one of these guys would you go for? Would either be worth starting over Blount or Westbrook this week? Thanks

Oops, might not have gotten to this one in time. Did Torain and Hightower get snatched up? If not, I like Torain over Joseph Addai and then Hightower over Dixon as well. As for who to start, I’ll get them on the newly published rankings shortly, so check back in a bit.

Let me apologize on behalf of Kyle Orton and the Denver Broncos

First off, let me first apologize for recommending that anyone starts the Denver Broncos defense in week 14. How was I so blind to see what a juggernaut the Arizona Cardinals offense, led by the dominant John Skelton, Tim Hightower and Jay Feely, could be?!

But seriously, I started Kyle Orton AND the Broncos defense in my most important league…and they got me -2 points each! Knock on wood, but I think a HUGE performance by Darren McFadden and a solid game by Chris Johnson may have saved me anyhow, but Orton and Denver did their best to foil my chances at a championship this year. I figured that any “NFL” defense should be able to hold a team like the Cardinals to a maximum of 17 points or something…not 43! I wonder if the Tim Tebow chants become loud enough that he gets a start in one of the upcoming games, as Orton has somehow instantly regressed into the Chicago-version of himself over the past couple weeks.

Orton will now be benched for the rest of my fantasy season and the Broncos defense will be jettisoned from my roster for all eternity (or until sometime next year if they prove they know how to play the sport.)

Embarassing…but I’m sure Josh McDaniels is smiling for the first time since his firing!

I think I won my game, even with opponent having vick and desean.
No need for apologies, made sense to play Denver D. I decided to get smart and play hauschka too over shayne grahm or picking up Feely himself. anyway, I also vowed never to play anything denver ever again.
do you think feely will produce same amount of kicking points next week?

      • Brandon 10:10 am on December 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I doubt Feely puts up the same numbers he did last week. Picking a kicker from week-to-week is a roll of the dice. You’re gambling that your kicker’s team offense plays decent, but not well enough to find the endzone every time. The Cardinals offense really is terrible (no matter what the Broncos tell you) and I can’t see Feely repeating his performance. Good luck!

I also had Orton try to submarine my season. Luckily I have Welker, V. Davis, Hillis, and McFadden in my line-up, a 40 point lead and Boldin & Andre tonight. My opponent has Flacco and Peterson. I feel real good with my WR’s +40, but I am not celebrating just yet.

Now worries on the Denver defense call. You made the Atlanta defense call earlier in the week and they were plenty available. I almost swapped for Denver but noticed just how badly scoring the Denver defense has been this year and thought different. Seriously though have you looked at how poor the Broncos defense has been for fantasy this year? Through 13 games they have 20 fantasy points! 20! That’s the worst fantasy football defense I have ever witnessed since I started playing. I mean Arizona was a great matchup but playing the worst fantasy defense ever was a stretch. I actually played the Arizona defense in a couple leagues where i was desperate based solely on the idea that Denver would be down the whole game.

Nevertheless, thanks for the Atlanta call. It was the right one. 😉

Rodger’s concussion killed me, but Lloyd’s 3 pts didn’t help either. 12-1 regular season, overall points leader, now one and done after losing by 10 pts to the #8 seed. A touchdown or two by my offense would have been nice this week (Rice, Foster, Roddy, Lloyd – only Vernon Davis came through).

      Good luck to everyone else!

Does anyone know if this Stats LLC company that provides NFL updates to Yahoo fantasy football is automated (with no human interaction) or something? I’m looking at the notes on Percy Harvin and see this…

    stats llc fail

FAIL #1 “Harvin was inactive” – The game hasn’t been played yet
FAIL #2 “He hasn’t missed a game this season…” – He missed last week’s game

Anyways, it looks like he’s doubtful for tonight’s game in Detroit, so maybe the first statement can become accurate, but seriously, is this company for real?

Who would you start tonight Sidney Rice or Steve Smith?

      • Marques 10:16 am on December 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

You should probably roll with Sidney, because playing a WR just back from a long injury is usually a bad idea.

      • Brandon 10:23 am on December 13, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I have to agree with Marques here, roll with Sidney Rice and hope whatever quarterback the Vikings roll out there looks his way often. Good luck!
