Too early to give up on these guys?

Just felt like giving people a forum to mention players they had high hopes for going into their fantasy football draft, but who they’ve given up on already. I’ll start off the list with a couple guys who have been disappointing at best:

    • Frank Gore, RB, 49ers – Averaging a spectacular 2.5 yards per carry, Gore is earning his nickname Frank “The Bore” Gore (not to be confused with Frank “The Tank” Ricard.)
    • Jacoby Ford, WR, Raiders – I was hoping that Ford would breakout and become the uncontested #1 receiver in Oakland this year. However, early season injury problems and rookie Denarius Moore’s big game in week two make it hard to see him becoming a reliable, every week starter for a fantasy football team.
    • Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos – Do you have faith that this guy can stay healthy for an entire game?
    • Felix Jones, RB, Cowboys – One of my big sleeper-ish picks this year, with the assumption that he could at least stay healthy for a FEW games! The Cowboys just haven’t been able to put together a decent running attack over the past few years, even with some talented tailbacks.
    • Braylon Edwards, WR, 49ers – Not that I had great hopes for him to begin with, but I expected a little more than what we’ve seen so far. Now he gets surgery on his knee and is out for at least a few weeks.
    • Matt Cassel, QB, Chiefs – Threw for 27 touchdowns last year and with the team adding Steve Breaston in the offseason, many thought he could at least match those numbers. He’s currently on pace for eight touchdowns.
There are plenty of other guys, I just had to stop before I got to depressed, but feel free to add the players that have already driven you crazy in this young season!

Roddy White. I’m sure he’ll end up being just fine, but this is not what I expected with my 2nd round pick (10 team .5 PPR league, took Andre Johnson and Roddy White at 1 & 2.) The fact that Nate Burleson is riding the bench and has more fantasy points than Roddy is totally disappointing.

Gore isn’t running very well. He was awful against Dallas last week. Matt Cassel seems confused and just isn’t playing well. I’d keep him on the bench though just in case. Felix Jones is too hit or miss. He gets injured so much that he’s difficult to count on. But then he’ll have 2-4 breakout games…keep him around.

I agree, especially with Jacoby Ford and Felix Jones. Do you think Jacoby Ford can be dropped in a 10-team non-PPR league?

I have Felix the Cat and just dropped Fordy 40 Dash for Run DMC Jr (McCluster).

We should have seen KC’s & Cassel’s demise when Charlie Weis left the team….

        10-team, yeah. He’s borderline in a 12-team.

Hey I need some help. Here’s my team..
      QB: Vick
      HB: S.Jackson, F.Jones, B.Tate, M.Ingram
      WR:K.Britt, S.Johnson, W.Welker, P.Harvin, E.Decker, S.Rice
      TE:T.Gonzalez
      D/ST:Bears, Lions
      K: R.Bironas

I got offered Chris Johnson for Steven Jackson and Wes Welker. Should I do it??? Also any advice on what moves I should do with my team. Thanks

        hey Rick,

You need a backup QB… Fitzpatrick, Bradford< newton are still available on most leagues. Vick can get hurt any second. I would drop one of the D/ST for the backup QB.

Jackson and Welker seem like a bit much for Chris Johnson, who hasn’t done a whole lot this season yet. Welker will be one of the most consistent receivers in the league this year. If there are any big Vick fans in your league, maybe you can package Vick and Steven Jackson for an upgrade at RB and a solid QB (or two, if they have a spare, since you need one.)

Just traded Gore to a Die Hard Niners fan who hasn’t yet lost faith in Gore. In Exchange i receive Arian Foster…..Thoughts?

The question marks are pretty big on both players right now. By mid-season I think they’ll both look a lot more like their 2010 selves. I think in the short term your buddy will be happier with the trade, but by the end of the season you’ll probably be glad you made it.

We’ve been through two weeks. It’s too early to give up on anyone not on the IR.

        Like Peyton Manning? 🙂

You don’t have to drop them outright, but it’s probably safe to start lowering expectations for a few guys.

And Kolb over Big Boy Berger?..I think it’s a good move this week.

    Jerome Simpson is an idiot

Hey, remember when Jerome Simpson was one of the more exciting sleepers in fantasy football after catching four balls for 136 yards in week 2? Well, so much for that.

Who is going to be the feature back at Cincinatti with Benson out? i think I’m going to drop Jordy Nelson for a RB option- thoughts? Cadilac, CJ Spiller, Brian Leonard (carrying the rock for Cinci?) who else is decent in these circumstances?

      • Brandon 2:23 pm on September 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Bernard Scott will replace Benson in weeks 4-6. He’s the only guy I woudl drop Nelson for from that crew.

Anyone affected by the late change in Hakeem Nicks’ stats (as well as Eli Manning’s) from week 2? It helped one of my teams…but I still lost by about 50 🙁

I benched him because I was too afraid to take the chance he might not play. I moved Dwayne Bowe from W/R into Nicks’ spot and moved Fred Jackson from the bench into the W/R spot, which ended up being a genius move!

Just found your site yesterday, good stuff. I have trade bait. 12 team/standard 2wr, 2rb + wr/rb flex. I have qbs=Stafford+Ryan, rbs=McCoy, Run DMC, Tate, Felix, Jacobs, Brown, wr=M.Williams(tb), Britt, Ocho, Ford, Nelson, te=Winslow, d=Bears, k=P.Canon. I drafted Stafford and Tate with the idea to possibly trade, now I’m thinking that trading away Stafford might be dumb and I may want to go after Foster somehow. The Foster owner does not have many pieces that I’m high on…but I am a little shaky cause my bench wr’s are not starting caliber and many of my players are injury prone. Advise?

Would you start Aaron Rodgers (@Chi) or Cam Newton (@Jac) this week?
