User Requested Player Rankings – Week 5

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against eachother. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

In a PPR league would you advise that I trade Adrian Peterson & Dez Bryant for Wes Welker and Ryan Matthews? I just traded Phillip Rivers for Steve Smith. I have Cam Newton at the helm. My other RB’s are F. Jones, McGahee, Tate, Hardesty, McCluster. My other WR’s are Manningham, Burleson,

          essentially i would go from:

          RIVERS
          PETERSON
          JONES
          BRYANT
          MANNINGHAM
          flex – McGahee/Tate/Hardesty/McCluster/Burleson
          WITTEN
          BRYANT
          PACKERS

          to:

          NEWTON
          MATTHEWS
          JONES
          S. SMITH
          WELKER
          flex – McGahee/Manninham/Tate/Hardesty/McCluster/Burleson
          WITTEN
          BRYANT
          PACKERS

          suggestions?

          • Brandon 8:58 am on October 6, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that’d be quite a blockbuster. I guess I’d probably do that trade in your position, as Mathews has actually been outproducing AP, primarily due to his use in the passing game. You’re taking a big risk on Mathews staying healthy, but if he does, you possibly upgrade both positions. It’s PPR too, so that makes Mathews even more awesome…and obviously Welker is King of PPR. Go for it! (But if Mathews gets hurt, you can’t blame me :-))

Bye week blues and didn’t get the trade done…Bryant, jones, witten on my bench. So. 2rb’s 2wr’s flex. Options. Steve smith, victor Cruz, Mario manningham ,Adrian peterson, Willis mcgahee, Dexter mccluster. Suggestions. Pick 5 and if manningham or Cruz…why not both and no dex??? Hard coaching choice. Thx Brandon.

starters are QB:Ryan, WR: Roddy and AJ RB: Steph Jack Fred Jackson Flex: Felix Jones TE:Pettigrew

I have meachem, ocho, isaac redman, antonio brown, ben tate, and benard scott on my bench.. I know AJ is hurt for a while so I need a fill in rec for him

          • Brandon 9:00 am on October 6, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Not sure Percy Harvin is a great replacement for one of the top receivers in the game, but I like the upgrade at the QB position. You’re giving up a flex guy for two starters in your line-up so it looks pretty fair to me.

I gotta choose to either play Blount (with Peyton Hillis on bye) or move in a Waiver -> Redman, Ridley, Green-Ellis, Addai,

Yeah, it’s probably closer than I made it out to be. I just usually prefer a starter to a guy who is in a time share, unless it’s Mathews/Tolbert or something.

Just traded Steve Johnson for Jacobs/Mendenhall. Im selling high on jacobs i think?? U might be scratching your head at this trade but i seriously need RB help. Who do u think i should start – My team now looks like:

          Qb. Rodgers
          RB. Blount
RB. Green Ellis ? Jacobs ??
          RB. LT ? Mendenhall ??
          WR. Mike Wallace
          WR. David Nelson
WR. Miles Austin – week 6 cant wait till hes back
TE. Gresham until Gates is back and healthy
          K. Mike Nugent
          D. Packers

Who should my RBS be??? – I can run 3 out there ( 1 being the flex )

          • Brandon 10:58 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

There’s a high probability that Jacobs doesn’t even play this week and Mendenhall is likely out as well. So in terms of this week, you’ll have to go Blount (against a tough defense), Green-Ellis (splitting carries) and LT (splitting carries as well.) Good luck!

You really think Jordy Nelson will get enough attention this week?

      • Brandon 4:21 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Compared to who? I almost actually want to rank him higher than he is. The Falcons aren’t great against the pass and Nelson has been solid in 3 of 4 weeks so far.

        • Schrodinger's Cat 4:31 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Compared to Greg Jennings and Jermichael Finley.. Im just afraid Nelson is Drown or drought. I’m considering starting Garcon over him.

          • Brandon 4:36 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’m thinking Garcon is more drown/drought than Nelson at this point. Remember, Garcon is Curtis Painter’s number 3 option behind Wayne and Clark. He only had two receptions last game, both of which happened to be long touchdowns. Soo….Aaron Rodgers’ #3 option or Curtis Painter’s? 🙂

    • Mike 4:22 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Why does everyone keep putting S. Holmes so high?? I know he is a great receiver but he has been constantly hurt, Sanchez doesnt have anytime to get him. Jordy Nelson has out done Wayne and Homes my 2 best receivers!!

      • Brandon 4:24 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I wouldn’t normally put Holmes so high, but he’s playing the Patriots and their horrendous pass defense. I sense a pretty big game from him this week. As for Nelson, I really have no argument with you playing him over Wayne. Like I said to Schrodinger above, I almost want to move Nelson up a few spots…maybe I will over the course of the next few days 🙂

        • Mike 4:32 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Agreed. Ok big question I have Ryan Mathews who has been great, I also have Tolbert, who still does ok, would you fill your wr/rb spot with him or Wayne, Nelson, or Harvin?

          • Brandon 4:37 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Jodry Nelson or David? I think Mathews and Tolbert both have solid games this week and wouldn’t be against you starting both. However, if you didn’t want to put all your eggs in the Chargers basket, go for Jordy Nelson as your flex play.

I’d have to roll with Schaub this week (it’s close though), even with a hurt Andre Johnson and hope he throws a few screens to Arian Foster for a touchdown. Fitzpatrick had a rough go of it last week and now has a decent Philly pass defense to worry about. Good luck!

So I’m very weak at RB this week between byes and injuries. I’m down to either redman or Ridley….thoughts? Also, in another league I’ve got Brandon Jacobs, Nate Washington, Robert meachem, and Aaron Hernandez on the bench (got gronkowski starting at TE). Do I drop one of them and pick up decker? Would appreciate these guys being added to the list as well. Thanks!

      • Brandon 11:36 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Got Ridley one spot ahead of Redman at this point, but it’s close. As for the other league, I’d drop Meachem for Decker. I’d also drop Washington for Decker, but I like his consistency a bit more than Meachem’s. If you don’t need Jacobs, you could drop him as well, but maybe you need the depth at RB more than WR?

Hey what’s ur take on Felix Jones.

      • Brandon 9:31 am on October 6, 2011 Permalink | Reply

In preseason, I was pretty high on Felix Jones, hoping he would take that next step now that Marion Barber was out of town. However, at this point, I’m not really counting on him for more than flex play or RB bye/injury fill-in. I just don’t get the sense that the Cowboys are all that interested in pounding the ball with Jones. They’d rather fling it around to all their receivers. Why do you ask? 🙂

You’re going to trade Torain for Hillis? If you are GETTING Hillis, then do this trade right away. I see a Hightower / Torain split in the near future for Washington and Hillis will get the bulk of the carries all year.

          • Brandon 1:38 pm on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

If he adds in Hardesty that makes it even better, as you could possibly end up with two starters! I’m not sure what is going on with this story about Hillis getting traded, but I’m not buying that he’ll be traded at this point. He’ll most likely play out his contract this year and then try to find a new buyer in the offseason.

My bench is flush w/ flex-grade RBs (McGahee, Benson, DWilliams, etc.) so I’d like to trade two of them for a better starting RB. I picked up Torain on the waiver wires this week and have a guy chomping at bit for him. He’s floating Fred Jackson out there – my question is if I should trade Torain and either McGahee, Benson, Michael Bush, or DWilliams, and if so how would you rank them? Thanks!

I’d rank those guys in order: Jackson, McGahee, Torain, Benson (out for a couple weeks in the near future), Williams and Bush. That being said, nearly everyone there other than Jackson are very close in value. If you’re going to package two guys and one is Torain, I guess I’d go with Bush as the other if possible though.

You could gamble with Kyle Orton. He’s bee throwing lots of TDs lately (and INTs) and will throw a lot against the Chargers. At flex, Roddy White if that’s what you’re asking. Otherwise, I like David Nelson this week.

      Plaxico Burress, Johnny Knox

Burress is a nice risk reward play against bad NE defense

Tentatively bullish on Jacoby Jones now that it sounds like Andre will be out for a few weeks. Oakland’s defense has been allowing 273 yards through the air per game, so this should be a good opportunity for him to show whether he’s a capable AJ replacement. I like him as a flex start this week.

ESPN Standard league – Flex spot: Darren Sproles, Mike Wallace, or Mike Williams (TB)? Just for clarity: Starting WR’s Wes Welker and Roddy White.

I have Stafford and Newton as my QBs and I’ve been playing Stafford every week.. I’m going to start Newton this week so only address that if I 100% shouldn’t which I’m sure isn’t the case.

I just realized they have the same BYE so I’m going to trade one to better my RBs so I was just wondering who you all thought would be a better choice to hold onto as my QB1 until further notice..

keep newton i dont think stafford will keep it up newton is the #3 QB right now keep him

So I have these RBs in a standard league: Chris Johnson, Jahvid Best, Cedric Benson, Joseph Addai, Michael Bush, Willis McGahee, Ryan Torain, and Deangelo Williams. I have a guy offering me Fred Jackson for two of those, and I think he’s particularly high on Torain. Which ones would be the best trade for me and which would probably be the fairest trade (so I know how far to go). 12 teams, standard format, no yardage bonus so touchdowns help. Thanks!

Hey Eddie, why does it sound to me like you have a lot of RBs for standard format? how many do you start? The most I’ve ever started in a league is 3….was just curious

        • Eddie 10:03 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have way too many. I’m trying to get rid of them but can’t get any decent trades, and I think they all have too much value to drop to the waivers.

          • steeve 10:08 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

They definitely do.. I was stacked at RB in my CBS league and I ended up dropping M.Bush but I can only start 2 RBs max so it may be a different scenario..

Did you work out the trade for Jackson?

            • Eddie 1:52 pm on October 7, 2011 Permalink

I’m now offering McGahee, Torain, and Jacoby Ford for Fred Jackson and Mario Manningham – still a good trade for me, right? Is Torain overvalued right now or am I undervaluing him?

So after tons of injuries, costing me my first 3 picks, I have managed to piece together what I think is a pretty darn good salvage team. However, I am not sure who to start over who.
      Here is my current starting line;
      M. Stafford (He has been a lucky pick/up and awesome)
RB1) Ryan Mathews (Has exceeded expectation thus far and moved to my 1 spot)
RB2) Ahmad Bradshaw (Steady and good)
      RB3) ?????
WR1) Jordy Nelson (Everyone looks over him, but he keeps putting up numbers, I keep wanting to put other big names over him but cant)
WR2) Percy Harvin (New p/u and does well, could be better)
TE) Pettigrew (In for Witten, who is the MAN on BYE week)
Defense) Giants (in flex for Jets)
      K) Rackers

Knowing that, here are my other options, who would you choose to put in / is there someone you like better of; Mike Tolbert, Mar Colston, Deon Branch, Reggie Wayne, Matt Ryan?????

PS I had Santonio Holmes and he gave me nothing, mostly cause of the line and Sanchez but I dropped him

Who’s a better flex start, Maclin or McGahee?
