Enter our free DraftDay.com contest and test your skills against the Geeks!

Last week one of the people from DraftDay.com contacted us with an offer for some free credits on their site in exchange for testing it out, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Draft Day is a weekly fantasy football game, where you pick a line-up (usually with a salary cap) that you expect to do the best for a given week. You can enter contests based on the entrance fee, which can be from free all the way to over $100 (for the big spenders out there!) You can also base your decision on the number of entrants in the competition. Do you want to go against 100 users with the chance to win a huge prize or increase your odds at winning and challenge just four users or something, but with the downside of winning less prize money?

Anyways, on to the good part! We got them to set up a private contest so that our readers can try out the site for free with a chance to win prize money. To enter and compete, go to their site (DraftDay.com) and create an account, then make sure NFL is selected at the top of the site. On the right side, select Private and you’ll see a game called “FFGeek”. Select that game and enter the password geeks2011. Once in the game, you will be prompted to select your optimal line-up with a $100,000 salary cap. After submitting your line-up, you sit back and wait until the games take place this weekend and see how your team does. So sign up for the site and enter our contest and see how you do against the FFGeeks!

Cool. I think you might be able to see the other teams once they’re locked and the games start? I’ve never really looked to see what goes on with the site while the games are playing though 🙂

Okay, cool.. it’s a good idea for more fantasy to replace your teams that aren’t looking so hot this season..haha

          • Brandon 10:18 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yeah the site is actually kind of addicting. Not sure if you’ve ever played online poker, but it’s kind of similar in that you can find “tournaments” based on the number of players, which affects the odds of you winning, but also the prize money. This week I’m in one contest for bigger money, but it has 10 people, so my odds aren’t awesome. I’m in another one though that’s just 2 people, so I got a pretty good chance of winning! It’s always fun to see how you can work a salary cap and the weekly match-ups to see the best line-up you can put together.

          • Brandon 10:21 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Of course, I’m still using some free credits they gave me last week. We’ll see how addicting it really is once I run out of the free money 🙂

            • steeve 10:50 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink

I played a lot of online poker in college and I went back to the site I used to use (pokerroom) probably about a year ago but they didn’t have cash games anymore….any recommendations for a new one??

But as for this site, I’ll definitely pay attention to it, I’m already looking forward to seeing how it plays out after the weekend and yeah, I can see myself getting addicted to it..the good kind of addiction though, like ice cream or ball park peanuts. 8^)

          • Brandon 10:56 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hah, no I don’t have any recommendations. I used to play on Party Poker, but I think they’re one of the sites where all the assets were frozen by the IRS or something.

You can see all of your opponents lineups as soon as the games start. It’s a lot of fun looking through who other people thought were the best picks of the week.

Should I do this trade in standard league: he gives me Stafford and Ingram, I give him Jahvid Best and Michael Bush? I currently have Matt Ryan and he’s been killing me. I also have Torain, DWilliams, Chris Johnson, McGahee, and Benson, so losing Best doesn’t kill me. Also, if I do the trade I’ll have to unload Ryan (I have Tebow on my bench) – who should I target for a trade? Could I get a WR2 for him? Thanks!

      • Brandon 10:57 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I like that trade. You have plenty of depth at RB to give up Best. As for Ryan, he won’t have a ton of trade value unless there’s a real Matty Ice believer in your league. If someone is starting Andy Dalton or Josh Freeman I guess they may want him, hah

        • Eddie 11:32 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Does it make sense to package Ryan in the deal and he give me Josh Cribbs?

          • Brandon 1:34 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I don’t think Cribbs adds much to the equation unless it’s a league that gives you big points for return yards. He’s around 40-50 yards a game. I’m sure you can find that kind of production on your free agent list.

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 6

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against eachother. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Hey, i’m looking to get Phillip Rivers from a guy that has him sittin on his bench and is 1-4 in our league. I’m currently 4-1 and was wondering what I should offer to try and grab him. My team is Schaub, Mark Sanchez…..Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Dez Bryant, Lance Moore, Heyward-Bey….. Ray Rice, Ahmad Bradshaw, Ryan Mathews, Michael Bush…. He has Mike Tolbert so he may want Mathews. Let me know what you think. Thank you!

      • Brandon 2:38 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You could give him Ahmad Bradshaw or Dez Bryant or something. Or maybe package Schaub with Heyward-Bey or Michael Bush or something? I wouldn’t get rid of Ryan Mathews though. He should continue to have a great year as long as he stays healthy.

      • Brandon 6:11 pm on October 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

No way you can do that trade. Green-Ellis just had a big game and Chris Johnson will hopefully improve all year. If Ridley continues getting carries too, that will cut into BJGE’s touches. Try to get him to throw in someone else and maybe I’d consider it.

      • Brandon 11:49 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that’s a tough one. As huge an Aaron Hernandez fan as I am, I think I lean towards the other three. Cruz is the hot hand right now and it’s hard to bench him (and he’s the only guy I’d really consider benching over Hernandez.) For your sake, maybe you bench Hernandez and hope that it’s Gronkowski’s turn to shine.

      • Brandon 11:52 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

This is a tough one, but I’m actually leaning towards Earnest Graham as long as LeGarrette Blount is out for sure. Graham racks up the receptions and will be used in the passing game when the team falls behind. Since you get points per carry as well, he could get you a couple additional points there. The Pats are solid against the tight end and will try to shut down Witten like they did Antonio Gates earlier this year.

          (1) Okay, Graham it is..

          (2) Could you add Frank Gore to your list please? I’m not totally considering benching him but I don’t really like the matchup..

          (3) I see you have Sanchez 1 spot over Schaub, that’s the start/sit call I was going to take a chance on..

Julio Jones was just dropped and is on waivers available for pickup on 10/15.

Our league uses FAAB budget of which I have $40 left – Would Julio be worth pursuing, if so how much of my budget should I bid and then who on my roster should I drop to make room for him?

      M Stafford
      T Tebow

      VJax
      S Moss
      V Cruz
      D Heyward-Bey

      R Rice

      • Brandon 2:50 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’m not all that familiar with these budget leagues, but what percentage is $40 of your total salary cap? Can you give an example of another player that went recently and how much they went for? If it’s a keeper league, then Julio Jones would have a ton more value than a redraft league, but if you could get him instead of Heyward-Bey that would be good.

      steven jackson or tim hightower?

I have to go with Jackson, since Hightower will most likely be sharing carries with Ryan Torain. Hightower has a much better match-up though, but Jackson is back to full health and should get plenty of carries if the Rams can keep the game somewhat close for a while.

Just added those guys. With Ridley you really have to wait and see what’s up with BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but it looks like he’ll play and Ridley could be the backup again.

      Where does Robert Meachem rank?

So I’ve got DeSean Jackson, and Victor Cruz for WR, and Owen Daniels and Aaron Hernandez at TE. Should I play 1 WR and 1 TE this week against Calvin Johnson and and AJ Green? I’m thinking of going with Cruz and Hernandez…either way I probably have no chance against these 2 guys!

I like Hernandez’s upside over Daniels, but Daniels is a safer bet. In order to beat Megatron and A.J. Green though, I think you have to roll the dice on D-Jax and Hernandez. Cruz could come back down to earth this week and Jackson is always a candidate to go huge. Good luck though. Hopefully you have some other players to make up for the potential deficit at WR!

Sup guys, I’m back – haven’t posted all year, but now need some friendly advice. I won this league last year, but am sitting in a tough spot. I drafted Kenny Britt and Jamaal Charles, whom both are on IR and I also got Blount, who probably won’t play again until the second half of the season … take a look at the attached screenshot and give me some pointers. I got one obvious question – Percy Harvin or Dustin Keller in my flex spot (WR/RB/TE) …

Besides that, is starting Delone Carter over Montario Hardesty good? Carter is probably going to get the bulk to the carries, whereas OAK run defense is horrible and Hardesty is cutting into Hillis’ numbers … whatchyu think?

BTW – he (opponent) is most likely going to play Daniel Thomas in the flex since CJ2K is on bye, so that’s why I went with Keller – MIA D is awful against TE and it gives me a reason to watch MNF, since he has Thomas going ….
