User Requested Player Rankings – Week 8
As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against eachother. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.
Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.
Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)…

Vick. He’s getting rated higher than I’d expect against Dallas, based on how QBs have performed thus far. Is that a function of Dallas’ pass D being largely pass rush based, as opposed to particularly strong coverage?
Brandon 3:29 pm on October 26, 2011 Permalink
The Cowboys have been great against the run, which means Vick will probably end up throwing the ball a lot. Of course I’m sure he’ll also run a lot as he scrambles around and the pocket breaks down. I don’t think the Cowboys secondary is anything special and they’ll be tested by DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. I like Vick this week at home on prime time TV.

Do you guys know something I dont know?? I see Branch up higher on the list then I expected. I was thinking that since Pit is brutal on WR and is #1 in fantasy points prevented, that I would bench Branch for Gaffney, who should do well at Buff. Any thoughts?????
Mike 9:26 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
will you put gaffney up there, or just recommend Gaffney vs. Branch?? See previous post above.
Brandon 9:34 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
Gaffney and Branch are already on the list. Gaffney is a couple spots under Branch. The Steelers pass defense has been good…against BAL, SEA, IND, HOU, TEN, JAX and ARZ. I have a feeling this week they give up a few more yards then they did against some of those guys. Gaffney is a good play too though, with Santana Moss out.

Hitch yourself to the Tebow bandwagon and hang on as long as you can! Hasselbeck seems to be getting worse each week.

Tony Romo, Marques Colston, DeMarco Murray, Demaryius Thomas,Jonathan Stewart, Ryan Torain, KC Def
Thanks!
Btw – trying to trade Torain for Antonio Gates otherwise I’m stuck w/ Ed Dickson although I could get Heath Miller…My other RB’s are LeSean McCoy, Murray, Stewart…,thoughts? Also I can drop Ridley or Tate and pick up Demaryius Thomas…what do you think? Thanks!
Brandon 3:50 pm on October 26, 2011 Permalink
Just added them all. Feel free to drop Ridley for Thomas at this point. Good luck!
Derek 3:44 pm on October 26, 2011 Permalink
I have Antonio Gates and Brandon Pettigrew. I only have 3 RB, Arian Foster, Forte, and Macgahee. Well Forte is on a bye and Macgahee is hurt. Should I trade Pettigrew for someone like Chris Johnson or would I be better off dropping someone like Mario Manningham who hasnt produced at all this year to pick up Alfonso Smith who will be filling in since Beanie Wells is hurt?
Brandon 3:51 pm on October 26, 2011 Permalink
Definitely trade Pettigrew for Chris Johnson if you can. Johnson has been terrible, but you already have a good tight end and Chris Johnson’s upside is big (and he has a great match-up this week.) If you can’t do that, then you could drop a bad receiver or someone for Smith for the week. Good luck!

Would you drop Mike Williams (TB) to pick up a WR to cover a bye-week?…. i.e. Demaryius Thomas, Michael Jenkins, or David Nelson?
steeve 9:15 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I recently did just that, also factoring in when I’d want to play him over who I currently have and the answer was never..haha
Brandon 9:44 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I wouldn’t drop him for any of those guys unless you absolutely had to. I’m thinking Williams could improve in the second half after the BYE as he’s getting so many targets and has started improving a bit the past few weeks. The team is also trying to get Josh Freeman back to the basics or something over the BYE and get him back to what was working last season for him, so that could possibly help as well.
e-roc 2:45 pm on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I have 5 WRs. 3 are on a BYE (Roddy, DHBey, and Mike Williams). Are you suggesting that I sacrifice whatever points I might get to keep him? I’m cool with that. My guess is I’m only giving up 10-15 points by not starting anyone.
Brandon 9:39 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
Can you you only drop a WR to get a replacement? Do you have any other dead weight on your team you could sacrifice? If not, then maybe you gamble and grab Demaryius Thomas or something. I prefer to never start a team with an empty roster spot!
e-roc 9:42 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
I wish I could. Our league only allows 2 WR bench spots and my 5 WRs are:
Roddy White (Bye)
Megatron (v. DEN)
Mike Williams (Bye)
DHB (Bye)
Torrey Smith (v. ARI)
Mike Williams is the dead weight. 44th best WR in our league.. =/

regarding who your other RBs are, if you’re in a position to even be considering this trade then I would say Yes.. I’d rather have Bryant than Torain, who you’ll never know what kind of game he’ll put up
Brandon 9:45 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I’d say yes if you need help at WR and have a little RB depth to spare. if Torain is one of your top two starters though, you probably need to keep him, especially now that Tim Hightower is out for the year.
Brandon 10:22 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
Added those guys to the list. At tight end I like Pettigrew a TINY bit more than Gronk, as Gronkowski is usually so reliant on touchdowns to earn points. As for your flex spot, I like all three, but I’d roll with a rested and healthy Stevie Johnson. Good luck!

And a waiver Q: Which 2 wr to keep for long term in non-ppr: Little, Cruz, Manningham, D Thomas, Jordy Nelson
Brandon 11:29 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I’ve added those receivers. You have to go with Brown against the Patriots if that’s the question. As for the waiver question, I’d hang on to Jordy Nelson and Demaryius Thomas. Cruz and Manningham are close, but they could keep switching back and forth each week as the #2 in NY and it could get pretty frustrating.
TJ 2:37 pm on October 27, 2011 Permalink
Thanks – I totally agree with you on Brown, he’s actually a pretty safe bet here if he’s returning too.
On the waiver Q, forgot to mention Little….. I’m thinking this week he’s not a great play, but more consistency than Thomas going forward?
Brandon 9:41 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
Thomas is higher risk, but the upside is higher than Little’s at this point as well. If you’re a gambling man, go Thomas. If you want some safe 6-10 points, go Little.

Sorry…I posted this question in an older post, so I’m redoing it here:
What do you think about a trade of Tebow for Murray? I have Brees and Cutler for bye week, so I really don’t need Tebow. Both only have one week under their belts, so both are a risk.
Brandon 3:04 pm on October 27, 2011 Permalink
The only problem with Murray is that when Felix Jones returns in a couple weeks, he will end up splitting carries. Tebow will be the quarterback for the rest of the year as long as the team is competitive. If you need running back help right now, go for it, but if Murray is just going to be a backup, you might try to trade for someone else. Keep in mind that Murray’s trade value is probably near the ceiling right now after that huge game last week.
Adam 11:57 am on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I have Brandon Marshall and the Giants defense as my starters right now. The Dolphins are playing the Giants so should I put in Jenkins in place of Marshall or should I just go with it?
Adam 2:04 pm on October 27, 2011 Permalink
Also, Antonio Brown is available to Add so that’s an option.
Brandon 3:06 pm on October 27, 2011 Permalink
I have Antonio Brown ranked slightly below Marshall, but it’s pretty close. Brown has a killer match-up against the Patriots pass defense, but he’s not the number one target in the offense. I like Brown over Jenkins though, that’s for sure.

Jeron 10:15 am on October 28, 2011 Permalink
Trading for Colston would be a great move with their matchup against STL this week. However NO’s bye is week 11 and you’ll need to find a backup QB and you’ll be out the WR you traded for.
Brandon 3:23 pm on October 28, 2011 Permalink
I would think you could get a better receiver than Colston or Fitzgerald for Newton at this point. I like those receivers as a WR2, but Newton is a QB1 and you should get a WR1 in return for him. I would recommend you package him with one of your WR3 guys and get a top flight WR1 in return.

Better start Moreno, Hardesty, or Ridley?
Brandon 3:28 pm on October 28, 2011 Permalink
Moreno, he gets the start and has a better match-up than Hardesty (also probably starting.) I would change this to Ridley if BJGE is ruled out, but otherwise go with Moreno.

pick 2 – jstew, greg little, or nate washington in standard scoring. like nates matchup but not his recent performance.. greg little looking like one of the few rec’ing options in a game that the browns may have difficulty running.. jstew scored in 2 straight but it hurts that cam is the goal line back and splitting carries w/ dwilly.. thanks!

I’m going with Nate Washington and Stewart. It looks like Stewart is starting to take some of Cam Newton’s goal line carries and Washington has a too good to be true matchup you don’t want to waste. Good luck!

kinda weird scoring. 0.5 ppr, 1pt/20yards receiving.. pick a WR2.. deion branch, david nelson, steve breaston, davone bess, nate burleson, emmanuel sanders, vic cruz, or jason avant.
Brandon 9:34 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
You might gamble on Emmanuel Sanders, who is getting the start against a weak Patriots pass defense tomorrow. I do like Deion Branch though. Good luck!

i was wondering why all the talk is on antonio brown and emannuel sanders isnt even a mention.. i already snatched up branch but thanks for the advice. good luck everybody! unless your in my league, in which case, eat sh*t and die.

And where does Big Ben fit in the QB rankings this week against the Pats ?
Brandon 9:36 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
Just added him. Got him right under Tom Brady.

Antonio Gates. I have Gronkowski and Gates and can only play one. Gronkowski had 3 TDs against Pitt last year.
Brandon 9:39 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
With Gates finally healthy, I think you have to go with him. Gronk had a huge game last year against the Steelers, but I’m pretty sure that means Pittsburgh will focus on keeping that from happening again. Aaron Hernandez was slowed down in that game last year and I see that changing this year. The only reason I go with Gates is because he’s one of Rivers’ top two targets, while Gronk has to fight for looks with Welker, Hernandez and Branch. Good luck!

Mario Manningham or Demaryius Thomas this week?
Brandon 9:42 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
I guess Manningham is the slightly safer option, but I’m rolling the dice on Demaryius Thomas this week. Good luck!

Stafford or Manning?
Fitzgerald or Stevie Johnson?
VJax or Lynch?
Brandon 9:52 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
It’s a toss up with Stafford and Manning. Interestingly, the Dolphins are the worst against QBs in terms of fantasy points and the Broncos are the second worst, so both are great plays. Stafford is a little banged up this week, so for this time only I’d go with Manning. Go with Stevie Johnson over Fitz this week and Vincent Jackson over (Marshawn?) Lynch. Good luck!

what do you think about torain vs m lynch this week for flex? dont trust either really, but bye weeks got me down..
Brandon 10:29 pm on October 29, 2011 Permalink
I don’t trust either…either 🙂 However, I’m willing to roll the dice on Torain a lot easier than Lynch. Torain’s upside is pretty big if they can just get him going. Good luck!

Hey – last second D/St question – where would any of you guys put SD & NE in that group, considering we get 1 pt per Kick return yard? (So lots of opposing kickoffs can be good, depending on the return teams. Punt yards are 1/2 that, rest of D scoring is standard).
Thanks
Brandon 10:31 am on October 30, 2011 Permalink
Just put those teams on the ranks. Don’t love either of them, but I think New England may have the best chance to catch a few interceptions or something and put up decent points. Good luck!
