User Requested Player Rankings – Week 13

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against each other. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, Demarco Murray, and Chris Johnson, which 3 do I start?

      • Brandon 11:04 am on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Got them ranked. I’d bench Marshawn Lynch this week, even though his matchup is decent. the other guys just have too much upside. Good luck!

How can you bench lynch? he has touchdowns in his last 5 games!

          • Brandon 11:53 am on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Looks like Lynch didn’t agree with my rankings either. The other guys have solid match-ups, so not like any of them were poor plays. Who knows, maybe they all have great days! πŸ™‚

Disagree with you. I played Lynch over Hillis and Chris Johnson. Looks like it’ll work in my favor. Can you add Hillis and Gerhart to the rankings though?

          • Brandon 2:22 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Just added them. Tough to bench Chris Johnson after he finally breaks out in a big game, but Lynch is playing well lately so not a crazy move either way.

            • Nero 3:17 pm on December 3, 2011 Permalink

Yep, I started Lynch as well … dude is in serious BEAST mode, even after all the OL he has lost in the past 2 weeks. Another OL just went down in the Philly game … give that man his skittles!!!

Jordy Nelson, Wes Welker, Laurent Robinson, and Stevie Johnson.

      • Brandon 11:28 am on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Got them ranked now. Robinson is interesting, because apparently Miles Austin could play this weekend. The Cowboys have a great matchup this week though and I still like Robinson, who has proven to be a big red zone target.

Can you add Lance Moore, Vincent Brown, and Riley Cooper as well as these three defenses: Houston, Pitt, and NYJ. Appreciate all your help!

WRs – Laurent Robinson, a resurgent Mike Williams (TB), Damian Williams, Jabar Gaffney, Eric Decker, Nate Burleson.

      Dez Bryant or Victor Cruz?
      Reggie Bush or Benjarvus Green-Ellis?

      • Brandon 2:37 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Got those guys listed. At this point, it’s almost impossible to bench Victor Cruz and at running back, it’s nearly a toss up. I’m leaning towards Reggie Bush who has surprisingly become a safer option. However, Green-Ellis has a great match-up and could either get 0 touchdowns or 3 depending on what Belichick feels like. Good luck!

OP Flex Position: Rashard Mendenhall or Vince Young?

      • Brandon 2:37 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Does the position generally favor QB’s over running backs or is it pretty equal? I’m thinking Vince Young has a much better chance to score.

        • Aaron 2:52 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

It’s ESPN standard scoring with incremental bonuses:
          QB: 300-399 yds passing +1, >400 yds +2
          RB: 100-199 YDS +2, >200 yds +3
          V. Young is appealing because he rushes, but Seattle’s D can be tough. And Mendenhall doesn’t seem to be used much later (rarely >20 caries), but he’s their goal-line guy. And he’s up against Cincy’s D which is also tough. What do you think?

          • S. 2:56 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Go with whatever Brandon says over me, but feel free to take this as a second opinion: With how strong Seattle’s rush D is, combined with the issue of McCoy’s toe, I think that V. Young will continue to air out the pass plays as he has in his starts thus far. I would personally go with Young.

Also, Cincy is starting to weaken in the secondary due to injuries, but are still relatively strong against the run. I would anticipate a lot of passing from Ben to his corps of receivers, but who knows. Good luck!

Hmm, might not have been the best move. How did VY end up scoring for you?

            • Aaron 3:05 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink

He scored 11 points. A poor performance for sure, but most analysts agreed he was a must-start so it seemed like a good decision.

Hey there, im kinda stumped here. okay who is my running backs for the week who should i start. i have mccoy, turner ryan mathews, helu and michael bush. who do i start? and recievers i have greg jennings, steve smith (panthers) and jordy nelson who do i start?

oh and who should i use as my flex out of all them guys sorry i didnt add that in there

        • Mike 5:07 pm on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Damn those are all solid plays. I would think that Helu and Bush are the least favorites, not that they couldnt go big, but they are higher risk. My vote would be mccoy, mathews, jennings, smith and nelson……but i could easily throw turner in, but he is going against a good D.

But make sure you check the player rankings above, thats why he makes them. lol

thanks for the info. and you sure michael bush wouldnt have a game against miami? i mean they have a good run D this year but its miami. i mean its so hard to choose from nelson bush, helu. so hard to choose from

            • S. 10:34 am on December 2, 2011 Permalink

Miami has stepped it up the last few weeks. Prior to playing Dallas, they didn’t allow their opponent a single touchdown for three games in a row, and one of those games was against Buffalo, which means they held FJax out of the end zone. Also, last week, they kept DeMarco Murray somewhat contained too – he didn’t score any TDs. I’m not saying that Miami has an amazing D or anything, but I wouldn’t write them off either.

      • Brandon 2:44 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Just added all of those guys to the ranks. It’s tough with those running backs, since I’d use all three receivers (Nelson in the flex.) I have McCoy and Michael Bush ranked the highest (although Bush is just ahead of Turner.) Good luck however you roll!

        • Dalton 6:33 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

    • Jpeck 2:12 pm on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Stevie Johnson or Jordy Nelson. Stevie is a prime target but he will have Finnegan on him, and Nelson had very little on field playing time against Detroit last week.

      • Brandon 2:45 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have Nelson ranked quite a few spots ahead of Stevie this week. The Packers will throw the ball a lot this weekend and I love both of their top receivers.

      • Brandon 2:52 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I think I have all of those guys ranked, so I’d probably go Lloyd, Beanie and Gerhart (although it’s close with Spiller, Gerhart and Green). As for McFadden, he should play next week, but hopefully you’re not counting on him too much since I’m sure the goal of the team is to get him healthy for the NFL playoffs, not the fantasy football playoffs. At defense, I’d probably go with Atlanta and hope they can slow down the Texans running game a bit and feast on the quarterbacking!

Its our first week of playoffs in a PPR league. I have the most points in our league but have lost 3 games by a combined 6 points, so I’m playing the #2 team in the league.

I’m starting Brees, Foster, Jennings, Jimmy Graham, and the 49ers D for sure.
I have 1 more slot for a RB, 1 more slot for a WR, and 1 RB/WR flex spot to fill, with Green-Ellis, Matthews, Kevin Smith (Questionable), Laurent Robinson, Nate Burleson, Miles Austin(Questionable), and Mario Manningham (Questionable).

I’m thinking Matthews and Robinson as of now, then a toss up between Green-Ellis and Burleson.

So I made the playoffs and am in 3rd. #2 is playing #1 this week and I need #2 to lose for me to jump into 2nd. It is very doubtful that this will happen since #1 player’s team has weakened quite a bit with the loss of Fred Jackson. So since I am probably 90% not going to make 2nd for the bye in playoff, I am going to throw this game so that I play a weaker opponent in the playoffs and am basically guaranteed 2nd in the league, but could grab 1st if all goes well in week 16.

Am I going to FF hell for this?

It’s not a bad strategy by any means. I was partially just being a smarta$$ in response to the “am I going to FF hell for this” part – but I just think it’s in good nature to do your best to win week-in/week-out regardless of the odds/projections/matchups/etc. HOWEVER… different religions believe that you go to “hell” for various reasons, so who’s to say which one(s) are right or wrong? πŸ˜‰

HA yeah I debated for a while whether it was bad karma. But the funny thing is that even with me worst players I don’t think I will lose.

So I can play my top guys and beat her by 60 points or play my worst and prob still beat her by 10.

      • Brandon 3:40 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Seems a bit crazy to me, as you’ll have to beat the top team to win the league eventually anyways. There’s a lot of luck in fantasy football and truly anything can happen each week if the two teams are competitive. Up to you though, since you already made the playoffs. It’s your team, so I really see no issue with managing it how you like. Good NFL teams bench their good players once they clinch the playoffs, so why not you πŸ™‚

Hi, who you think might be the best this weekend for my last spot (Fitz+RoddyW are my other 2WRs), in a WR/TEcombined, PPR league? Gates or Mike Williams (Bucs)
      What I see:
      – Gates (@Jacksonville) is normally constant for 5 catch and 1TD, in an offense that need to get him more involve if they want to win. However, Jaguars are not bad defensively and it could be a low scoring game…
      – M.Williams (vs Carolina) was more used in the last weeks, but he will probably face a lot of Chris Gamble (right?) and the Bucs would probably run a lot on the Panthers because they are not good in that area…

The Wire: Playoffs around the corner!

This season I’ve continued to tweak the format of the waiver wire list, so pay attention! I’ve organized it by position now, since that probably makes more sense when you’re trying to fill a particular position. In terms of the color coding: green are guys to target, yellow are guys that are less-than-spectacular, but you can plug-in if necessary, and red are one-hit-wonders you can ignore.

Here is the waiver wire advice for this week in Google Doc spreadsheet format if that’s the way you prefer to digest it.

Remember, Pickemfirst is a great browser plug-in to use with our waiver wire lists!

What do you think of dropping Dustin Kellar or Jake Ballard for Jermaine Gresham? I am already guaranteed a bye in the first round of the playoffs (Week 14), need a good TE for weeks 15 & 16.

      • Brandon 4:03 pm on November 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

It’s tough. According to their schedules, Ballard has the easiest week 15 and 16, but he’s my least favorite option. I’d hang onto Keller and pick up Gresham over Ballard.

    • Jarad 3:42 pm on November 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I am in a league that doesn’t allow TE as flex. I have Graham and Gronkowski. I am first place in my league but just lost Fred Jackson for the year. Wondering if I should trade Gronkowski or Graham. Someone said they will accept Gronk and Dez Bryant for Cedric Benson or I could trade Graham straight up for either DeMarco Murray or Frank Gore. What should I do?

      • B 3:48 pm on November 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

That seems like a no-brainer Jarad– definitely trade Graham for Murray or Gore.

        • Jarad 3:57 pm on November 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Which one would you take? Gore seems to have the tougher schedule playing Arizona, PITT, SEATTLE in playoffs and Murray plays NYG, TB, Philly. Think Gore has bigger ceiling but the 49ers are up huge in their division and may rest Gore and he always gets injured. What do you think?

      • Brandon 4:06 pm on November 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’d trade Graham for Murray immediately! You’d have Gronk (potentially the best TE in the league right now) in the TE spot and Murray to replace Fred Jackson…so you really don’t lose anything.

Brandon- Phillip Rivers is killing me? If I don’t do something about it this week I may be out! Of course I face a guy with Aaron Rogers this week. I have Carson Palmer on my bench, but Vince Young and Alex Smith are available and projected to get more points. Do I pick up any of those guys or stick with Rivers?

      • Brandon 10:47 am on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

That’s a tough one. None of them have especially great match-ups. I like Palmer the most of the crew I guess, with the hope that one or both of Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford can play. That being said, I still think Philip Rivers has the highest upside of the group, just based on his receivers, but you might be fed up enough with him to keep him on the bench this week. Good luck either way!

My other dilemma involveds my RB’s. I have McFadden and Bradshaw. Both have injuries and not sure if the will play. Is it worth it to drop one of them and go for Beanie Wells? It looks like he’ll play. Ugh injuries! Lost Fred Jackson too!

I would drop bradshaw, even if he does play the Giants have been awful on run blocking, + hes still hurt, and the Packers are going to run the score up quick so NY will have to pass. Thats my thoughts.

Think you can post a video on how the PickemFirst plug-in works? I don’t like downloading anything until I know for sure I want it.

      • Brandon 11:35 am on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Not sure about a video, but here’s a post I wrote that shows a screen shot of the plug-in in action. There is the downside that while the plug-in is enabled, it runs every time you load up a website, which can get annoying sometimes. http://ffgeekblog.com/2011/09/any-of-our-readers-using-pickemfirst-i/

          • Brandon 11:45 am on November 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I believe the free version allows for two teams. When you click the little symbol next to a player, a little dialog pops up listing all the teams and the status of that player in the league. You configure what teams to use in their options screen on the site. There is a video on their website too: http://www.pickemfirst.com

P.S. I don’t work for them or anything, so it’s not a big deal to me if you use them or not πŸ™‚

      Saints D/ST
      DeMarco Murray
      Ryan Fitzpatrick

What should I do to revamp my team? My RBs aren’t as strong as they were, and my receiving game needs some work. I need to do a few trades or pick up some free agents or something. any advice?

      • Mike 1:59 pm on November 28, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Good line-up, but injuries kill. Jacobs is a good RB but the O-Line of the giants is struggling hard. Plus Bradshaw will be back soon. I would keep DeMarco Murray, he only had a down game cause he was missing his FB. I actually like Eric Decker. He doesnt get a lost of throws, but he gets pretty much all of the ones they do throw. He is actually fairly consistent, but will have an occasional down game. Try to trade off Jacobs/Fitzpatrick/Green for a #1 RB and #3 WR or some sort of combo.

Has anyone picked up Antonio Brown (Pitt) in your League?? If not grab him!!

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 12

Who should I start for my RB and Flex. I am a league with 3WR 1 RB and one RB/WR

      RB’S:

      AP – Hurt
Reggie Bush – Been performing well, but playing Dallas
Mike Tolbert – Did not get a lot of carries last game, but Matthews fumbled so coach may be upset and they are playing Denver, so it should be a running game.
Toby G – AP is out so he is a starter, but they are playing the Falcons who are good aganist the run

      WR’s:

Dwayne Bowe – Hurt qb, but targeted a lot. Playing Pitt who does not give up much to receivers
AJ Green – He will play
Julio Jones – Don’t know if he will play
Brandon Marshall – Moore has been on fire, but only had one catch last game
Damian Williams – QB hurt, but was still targeted in the end zone 4 times and is playing Tampa

Please let me know what you think mainly about my flex and weather I should play Damian Williams over Bowe or not.

I am in a PPR league:

Running backs: Murray, M. Bush, K. Smith, J. McKnight

Which two should I roll out for week 12?
Also, I’m planning to target Percy Harvin with Aaron Hernandez and/or Larent Robinson in a trade. I think Harvin will help down the stretch and Hernandez is in a log-jam in New England. Thoughts?

      • Brandon 2:06 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Who would you start at tight end if Hernandez was gone? Robinson for Harvin would be solid actually, as Harvin is doing well lately and once Miles Austin is back, Robinson loses a lot of value. Got the guys ranked as well.

        • Adam 2:13 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You are not required to use a tight end at all in my league at all…

          1 QB
          2 RB
          3 Wide Receiver/Tight End
          1 K
          1 Def

At any rate, I’ll have Jimmy Graham, Hakeem Nicks, Brandon Lloyd, and AJ Green to use until the end of the season. My trade deadline is Friday and I really want Harvin as I think with Petersen going down his value goes up a lot. Besides, Robinson value will only decrease when Austin comes back, and Brady evidently favors Gronkowski in the passing game.

Check the rankings πŸ™‚ As for the trade, I wouldn’t give up both Hernandez AND Robinson for Harvin, if that’s what you’re implying. Peterson won’t be out forever and when he’s back, Harvin loses value. I feel like you could get a better receiver than Harvin for those two, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully you didn’t listen to me and start Kevin Smith! I’m sure his injury (and the fact that the Lions had to throw the ball a lot) didn’t help a lot of people out there. If you still are deciding between McGahee and Tolbert, I think at this point I may have to swap them around and recommend McGahee. It’s really close, but he’s the starter while Tolbert still plays second fiddle to Ryan Mathews…at least until he fumbles. Good luck however you go!

Do you think I should play the Jets defense over Oakland now that Fred Jackson is out?

      • Brandon 8:57 am on November 25, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I guess you just have to weigh the Bills passing game vs. the Bears running game. With Cutler and Fred Jackson out, neither team will have a lot going in those areas. I like both of them and it’s really a coin flip as to who is better. I generally favor the defense playing the new QB though. Hope this helps!

Andre, Dez and Robinson. Greene is still not 100% plus he’s up against Joe Haden this week.

Pick 2: Tarvaris Jackson (vs. WAS), Carson Palmer (vs. CHI), or Sam Bradford (vs. ARI)

      • Mike 11:45 am on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Neil, I’d go Palmer, Jackson, Bradford in that order. Palmer has been playing well of late and is the better QB overall. Jackson is not a bad option but feeding Lynch a lot lately and Bradford has been non-existent this year, even with the emergence of Lloyd. I had to use Bradford last week as a Brees fill in, and he got me all of 8 fantasy points. Maybe I’m still just a little bitter towards him…LOL. Good luck.

That’s what I was leaning toward as well. Thanks MIke! What do you for a WR3 (already had Jordy Nelson go (ugh) and Laurent Robinson πŸ˜€ go). It’s between Hakeem Nicks (@NO) and Antonio Brown (@KC). Leaning toward Brown, but not quite sure…

          • Mike 7:19 pm on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Neil, I think both will have good weeks, however I like Nicks a little more considering this will have to be a shoot out in order for the Giants to have a chance. Steelers could get up early and start running with Mendenhall, limiting Brown. I’d go Nicks if I were you. Good luck!

Hi! I need to pick one WR/TE in a PPR league. I already have Fitz+RoddyW for the 2 other spots
Between: Mario Manningham, Antonio Gates, Antonio Brown

      • Mike 11:46 am on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Chuck, I’d go with Gates, Brown, Manningham in that order. Gates and Brown are very close. I like Gates slightly more as he always has a chance for a TD and Bailey will be on V Jax most of the game. Brown is also a good option this week against KC, but Wallace still #1 WR and if Pitt gets up early, they may run more often. Manningham is decent option against NO, it what could turn out to be a shoot out, however Eli still targets Cruz and Nicks more often, and Ballard may even get involved here a little also. Hope this helps.

Trade Question. I was offered Mendenhall and D Jax for Welker. Its .5 PPR league. My only running backs are Rice and Reggie Bush. My WRs are V Jax, Welker, Julio Jones and Santana Moss. Should I take this trade? I’m not sold on either Mendenhall or D Jax (issues of late) but Mendenhall does have Cleveland and St. Louis left on his schedule and you never know with D Jax, he could go off, however he does have toougher matchups down the stretch. If I do the trade, V Jax becomes my #1 WR, and I can slide 2 of these 4 into my flex and WR2 slot: D Jax, Julio Jones, Moss or Reggie. Thoughts anyone?

    The Wire: Playoffs or bust!

Probably not, but it’s not against the rules in most cases. You could try bribing him or something and seeing if that helps? πŸ™‚

A guy in my league just dropped Gostkowski. Do you think his value his higher than Mason Crosby?

      • Brandon 12:21 pm on November 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Not really. I sense the Patriots scoring a lot of touchdowns down the line so Gostkowski should kick a lot of extra points, but not as many field goals. Same could be said for Crosby though I guess. Either is a solid play though.

Another question. I am still in the hunt for a playoff spot, but the path has shifted a bit with Cutler going down. Who should I pick up/start? 2QB league. Carson Palmer, Kevin Kolb, Sam Bradford, Tarvaris Jackson, Caleb Hanie. Basically, I’m asking, who do you think is the better QB2 (Palmer will e the QB1)

      • Brandon 1:27 pm on November 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

        Matt Moore available by chance?

        • Neil 2:16 pm on November 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Matt Moore, not in the league in question. He is available in my other league. Would you say Moore>Dalton?

One of the guys in the league just started dropping players from his team for no apparent reason….that’s how Kolb and Bradford became available. I’ve got my waiver wire set to (1) Dropping Jay Cutler for Sam Bradford and (2) Dropping Lance Ball for Caleb Hanie. Who do you think I should start at the QB2 spot of the other 3 (Jackson, Hanie, Bradford)?

Start Christian Ponder or Matt Leinart in the qb2 spot?

    • Brett 2:49 pm on November 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

If you have studs at every other position EXCEPT Qb, and just lost Cutler, it’s conceivable that a Matt Moore or Andy Dalton could take you to playoffs.

Toby Gerhart should be one of the top pickups, but I’m not incredibly excited given his lack of explosiveness and Percy Harvin stealing carries. For our Waiver Wire advice, and a funny podcast, check out http://www.TheFFMVP.com. Thanks!

Is Chris Johnson worth a trade for Toby Gerhart or Kevin Smith? or Bears D/ST?

      • Brandon 3:20 pm on November 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

No way, keep Chris Johnson. The Titans will continue to start him all season, while with the other guys when the starter comes back (if Jahvid Best plays again this year) they go to the bench. Don’t drop him for a defense either.

Okay then who do I start? non PPR, 2 RB, 1 flex (WR/RB)

          Chris Johnson (Ten)
          Marshawn Lynch (Sea)
          Percy Harvin (Min)

      Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Getting ready for a playoff run, looking for help with some roster tweaking with the following guys, non- ppr:
RB (start 2): Rice, M Bush, Murray, McFadden, Tate, KSmith
WR: (start 2): CJ, JNelson, A Brown, D Moore

Don’t need 6 Rbs, and AJ Green was just dropped by an impatient owner… can’t decide who to drop for him, hard to tell how effective Smith will be when not playing Carolina, but don’t want to get burned playing against him in the playoffs, though. Stay put, or drop someone (Tate, Smith, Moore) for Green? (Manningham is out there too). Want to keep both TEs for now (Gonzo & Hernandez) & a backup QB to Cam

Any thoughts from Brandon or others?

      • Danny 4:07 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

drop moore. thats obvious. But Tate is okay too. doesn’t seem like you’ll ever start either. but you gotta get Green.
