User Requested Player Rankings – Week 15

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against each other. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Jordy Nelson, Santonio Holmes, Pitt D, Lance Moore, Ryan Grant, James Starks, and unfortunately I need you to rank my best alternative between Chris Ivory and Keiland Williams!

Got those guys ranked. Got Ivory ahead of Williams, especially if Maurice Morris and/or Kevin Smith play.

I’d go with Atlanta and hope they can slow down Maurice Jones-Drew. As for the other guys, that’s a tough one. They’re all great starts! I guess you could bench Sproles if it’s not a PPR league. Robinson is Romo’s main man near the end zone, but the other guys are pretty much on fire. However you play it I’m sure you’ll be fine. Good luck!

Got them ranked. Looks like I have RB – AP (as long as he plays obviously) and Helu, WR – Dez and Robinson (even if they’re on the same team!) and let’s go with Cedric Benson in the flex against the Rams. Good luck man!

Just ranked them. Tough to really see where Tebow falls until I add a few more guys though. He’s really not that far behind Matt Ryan as he has his best match-up of the year in terms of the passing game.

My dilemma is that I can only play three WR. Nicks is in my lineup. I have four others but I need to choose one.
Julio is a great play Thursday night but i risk him sometimes only catching two or three. He is a beast though.
garcon is iffy but he’s been the guy i have been playing. The past two games orlovski has targeted him 12 times so i want to play him.Crabtree has been consistent but they paly pittsburg. Manningham i just picked him up but i don’t want my playoffs to come down to eli having to throw tds to nicks and manningham, what do you think

      • Brandon 3:58 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I just ranked the guys I didn’t have and I actually have your top three this week as Nicks, Jones and Manningham. However, if you wanted to break up Nicks and Manningham, the next guy would be Crabtree, who I have just slightly ranked ahead of Garcon.

        • carlos 4:06 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

THX So you would have crabtree vs pitt D instead of garcon who has been orlovski main target?

          • Brandon 4:18 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Alright, you convinced me, got Garcon ranked ahead of Crabtree now. It’s close though! πŸ™‚ Crabtree is the main man in SF, so it’s hard to use that argument, but the match-up is better for Garcon.

I am struggling with Newton vs Tebow this week – I know you have them ranked, but I was wondering if you could explain your logic as I am wrapped up inside my own head about it!

      Also,
      – Nicks or Harvin?
      – Felix Jones or AP (if he plays, I am thinking with the match-up and all that….)

      • Brandon 4:06 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Tebow is like Cam Newton-lite. While Tebow has a great match-up and Newton’s is tough, I think you stick with the man who has carried you to the playoffs and is much more likely to have a 3+ touchdown game. As for your receivers, I like Nicks over Harvin, but it’d be nice to start them both! At running back, again, would be nice to play them both, but as long as Peterson plays (and it seems he’s ready to roll) you go with him. He has a decent match-up anyways.

      Mario Manningham or Santana Moss?

      • Brandon 4:07 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have Santana Moss a couple spots ahead only because he’s the top option in the passing game, while Manningham is #3. Both should be decent though. Good luck!

I’ve got Andre Johnson and Forte on my squad, and am somehow one game away from playing for the championship. I’ve still got Spiller, Wells, and Khalil Bell on the team, and L Rob, Steve J, and Nicks at WR. There are some decent, not great, FA grabs available, so the question is:

      1. Are people dropping Forte and Johnson based on today’s news? (neither practiced)
      2. If so, assuming no Grant / Barber / Jones on the waiver wire (best PA is S Moss or D Thomas) if I don’t really need WR help, should I consider holding?

      Thanks guys!

      • Brandon 12:09 pm on December 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I dropped Forte in a league, but if you don’t need to drop them for roster space, just hang on to them in case something crazy happens I guess. As for free agents, no real reason to pick up Moss or Thomas unless you have a free roster spot. Demaryius Thomas will be pretty interesting this week against the Patriots, that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t start him over your guys. Good luck!

      • Brandon 12:10 pm on December 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

One thing to consider as you advance through the playoffs is that there are less people targeting free agents, so unless you need them immediately or you think your opponent will use them, no big deal in letting them chill πŸ™‚

I feel pretty good about Helu and Colston. Maclin’s injury worries me, and Barber may be in the doghouse in Chi Town. I do think that Decker could do well, there is no doubt that Brady will score alot in Denver, so Im thinking Tebow will be forced to throw. So if it doesnt miss, or go out, its 50/50 between him and Thomas.

Wow, nice group you have there. I’d probably go Wallace, Cruz and Austin, but it’s REALLY close with those guys and the rest of them. In a TD heavy league, you might even gamble on Laurent Robinson who seems to be Romo’s favorite target in the red zone. Good luck!

I’d stick with them even if Charlie Batch gets the call. Lloyd’s match-up isn’t great (and his team is beat up) and Floyd has been too inconsistent this year.

Sad isn’t it? Luckily McCoy and Foster have really helped me thru the year. And an early post-draft Jordy Nelson pick up didn’t hurt. And thanks to your post weeks ago, was able to land Laurent Robinson off waivers, which paid dividends!

Yeah, I’d say Robinson made a great career move going to Dallas. He’s Romo’s favorite target in the red zone and continues to get looks while Dez and Austin are there.

It’s really tough to rank him with a new QB, but his match-up is great otherwise. If Orton can play like he did last year, they will have to throw a bunch I’m guessing and the Packers defense is pretty bad against the pass. Sooo….what I’m saying is that I have him ranked pretty high actually πŸ™‚

If Smith plays, go with him over Hillis. At flex, go with Antonio Brown, even with Greg Jennings out and Finley in line for more looks. Easily could be Driver, James Jones and Patrick Cobb that get his looks instead of Finley…just too many options!

So it is now week two of the playoffs and I’m starting to second guess myself. Here is my line up:

      Romo
      Cruz
      Antonio Brown
      Foster
      Lynch
      Graham
      Flex (Reggie Bush)
      Janikowski
      49s

      Bench:
      Frank Gore
      Beanie Wells
      Marion Barber
      Julio Jones
      Jacoby Ford
      Damian Williams
      Ryan Fitzpatrick

Well I guess my issue is who I should start in Flex. Bush has been putting up yards and touchdowns and Wells has been very inconsistent. However, with Matt Moore possibly out Bush may not have the same game that he normally would. On the other hand Wells’ last two games was Dallas and 49s so we didn’t expect much from him. But if he is going to explode I think it will be this week against Cleveland.

      Any opinion would be welcomed.

      Thanks

      • Brandon 3:37 pm on December 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Matt Moore is practicing apparently so I think he’ll be out there this weekend. I actually have Reggie ranked higher than Wells and Lynch this week, so definitely keep him. As for Lynch, I guess you have to keep him in there since he’s been scoring touchdowns like they’re going out of style. Wells is a good match-up, but he’s been inconsistent. Good luck!

Gaffney or D Thomas (whom you already have ranked).

I worry, possibly wrongly, that Thomas’ recent games are outliers.

And Gaffney always seems good for at least 7 points or so

Brandon, your assistance please sir! I’m in the semi’s for an autographed football that I’m trying to win for my unborn son (he’s 9 days overdue!), and I’m having trouble making a couple decisions.

I have Arian Foster as RB1 and Roddy White as WR1, and I’m having trouble deciding on the RB2, WR2, and WR/RB spot. Here’s my options for RB: Beanie Wells, Marshawn Lynch, Reggie Bush. For WR’s I have Steve Smith, Santana Moss and James Jones (I have Miles Austin but he already played.) I’m leaning towards Beanie Wells and Steve Smith, and on the flex spot having a tough call of Lynch or Bush, but leaning towards Bush. Am I making the right call? Also, for TE’s do you like Jermichael Finley this week over Aaron Hernandez?

Thanks a bunch for your advice!

    The Wire: Slim pickings!

This season I’ve continued to tweak the format of the waiver wire list, so pay attention! I’ve organized it by position now, since that probably makes more sense when you’re trying to fill a particular position. In terms of the color coding: green are guys to target, yellow are guys that are less-than-spectacular, but you can plug-in if necessary, and red are one-hit-wonders you can ignore.

Here is the waiver wire advice for this week in Google Doc spreadsheet format if that’s the way you prefer to digest it.

Remember, Pickemfirst is a great browser plug-in to use with our waiver wire lists!

What r ur thoughts on ryan grant this week? I know it depends on starks’ status (which is??) but even if starks plays, you think this guy has a chance of having a bigger role with the 2TDs he had last week?

I’m torn between him and James Jones for a flex spot now that Greg Jennings isn’t playing.

Michael vick vs jets, tebow or freeman? Vick has been my guy all year so he’s in mylineup- just scary cause he’s banged up and they play the jets.

      • Brandon 2:22 pm on December 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

How has Tebow been scoring in your league? In one of my leagues that doesn’t reward as much for his running he’s not a great starter, but if they get a lot of points for rushing yards, he could be a great/scary/risky/awesome play against the Patriots. He’ll be the most fun to cheer for, that’s for sure (and that’s coming from a Patriots fan!) Because of the sheer unpredictability of what the heck he’ll do against NE though, I have him one spot below Vick on my rankings. Good luck however you go!

        • carlos 2:40 pm on December 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

He does not score much but we def get points for every 15 rushing yards. Tebow usually has one good quarter and that is in the 4th … Only thing vick scares me is getting hurt and then i have no qb for the rest of the game. If i sit him, i’m scared he could put up 30is points. which is very possible for vick.. My opponent has brees of course…

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 14

      • Shane 1:12 pm on December 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

The seahawks finish the season against the rams, bears , 49ers, and cards. I think they’ll but up great numbers against the rams and the card good numbers against the bears and decent numbers against the 49ers. I would drop the Lions D, with all the circus that Suh is causing the D is not playing well. i think its sell time on the Det D.

Definitely go with Seattle this week against the Rams, who may be starting Tom Brandstater at quarterback…but even with Sam Bradford, it’s still an excellent match-up. Feel free to give up the Philly defense, which really doesn’t have a promising start left on the schedule.

What’s not right is typing entire comments in all caps πŸ™‚ What you’re describing is also pretty sketchy and in reality shouldn’t be allowed. Can’t the league vote on trades? You could simply veto the trade. Another thing that your league commissioner could do is lock the rosters of teams that aren’t in the playoffs, so they can’t trade/drop/add players to screw up other teams.

    • S. 3:07 pm on December 8, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hey Brandon… need a second opinion, and I kind of feel like a crazy person for asking. But I have Peyton Hillis starting. He’s been sitting on my bench almost all season long. This is the last week of regular play, and I’m out of playoff contention, so I want to play him so that I don’t feel like he was a complete waste of an early draft pick (although nothing will change that… lol). But then I also have Ricky Williams, who I’m thinking might get a decent amount of carries, as he did last week, if the ravens are blowing out the colts. I feel like either way I’m rolling the dice, but I’m at the point where I have no reason not to take dumb risks since there’s no way I can make the playoffs. Who would you start?

Also – I see hillis is ranked several spots above Ricky Williams, but given my situation and that Hillis was limited in practice today with his new hip problem, and that their game is tonight, I want to see if maybe you’d have a newer opinion or still feel the same.

Sorry for the way-too-long reply. Thanks!

      • Brandon 12:19 pm on December 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Looks like I missed out on this one in time, but hopefully you went with Ricky Williams since Hillis didn’t do too much. Williams is the risky play, but he could pay off if the Ravens can take a big lead. Anyways, there’s always next year!

Added those guys to my player rankings, so take a look. I gave Bradshaw the nod, but it was only by a hair over Stewart, who seems to be playing well in the Cam Newton offense these days.

if AP is out again, who do you think is a better play? (0.5 ppr, but only 1pt/20 receiving yards vs 10 rushing yards) – beanie against the 49ers or toby gerhart at detroit w/o Suh? thanks!

      • DAVID 7:45 am on December 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

if AP is out go with Toby.

      • Brandon 9:37 am on December 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

As long as Adrian Peterson is out, go with Gerhart. Beanie Wells has the toughest match-up possible and didn’t do well against the 49ers the last time around. Good luck!

Pick one please.. [J.Stewart (vs. ATL)]….[M.Barber (vs. DEN)]….[B.Wells (vs. SF)]….[T.Gerhart (vs. BUF)]

Just made it in the playoffs!… I have NE def and that won’t do. They almost blew it last week. Would you go Seattle of Pittsburgh?? Pick 2..Roddy White, VJax and Antonio Brown??

      • JMac 12:11 pm on December 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Also…Would you play Big Ben or Tebow??

  • Brandon 4:59 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink

Quick note, there’s a football game tonight, so make sure all your necessary Seahawks and Eagles players (probably not many!) are in your line-up as needed. Good luck!

Would you start A.J. Green or Willis McGahee at the flex position?

      • Brandon 3:45 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Usually I’d say A.J. Green, but he has a tough match-up and the Broncos should run the ball all day.

QWRT Flex – would you go with Moore (vs. OAK), Dalton (vs. @PIT) or Sproles (vs. DET)

      Glad I played Lynch
