Looks like Troy Smith will be the quarterback this week for the San Francisco 49ers, as Alex Smith is out 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury. Anyone feeling especially adventurous and starting him in their league?! 🙂

Here are our waiver wire candidates for week 16. As usual, you’ll find players who are either [Startable], a [Stopgap] to get you past a BYE or injury, [Worth a look] and spot on your bench, or [One-week-wonder]s who don’t warrant a roster spot, so you make your roster moves accordingly. You’ll also see the percent owned in parenthesis. With your league championship in sight, I’ve simplified the list a bit this week, as I figure there is a lot less competition for the top waiver wire players this week. If you have any additional questions though, please feel free to ask away and I’ll try to get them before the end of the day so you can finalize your roster as soon as possible. Good luck!
Out of these 5 players I need to start 1 RB and 1 flex:
Jamaal Charles, Rashard Mendenhall, Joseph Addai, Sidney Rice or Sims-Walker? Also which defense: Arizona or New Orleans?
my lineup for my playoff game is set all down to my last flex spot: the choices are jamaal charles or jerome harrison.
any suggestions?
ok I have a huge dilema at my third reciever position. i have pierre garcon, josh cribbs, and michael crabtree. In my head I have made a case for all three players.. garcon has manning throwing, cribbs can take it to the barn, and crabtree is playing detroit… anybody have any suggestiions?
Hey guys, wanted your thoughts before leaving for The Nightmare Before Christmas Travel begins. Here’s what I’ve got and some random thoughts (non-ppr):
RB (2) : Sjax @Ari, Wells vs StL, Charles @ KC, Forsett @GB, F Jackson @ Atl
Have SJax (struggling lately….) and Wells (good matchup) for now, Charles helped get me here but matchup not great @ Cin. Harrison available but too risky, I think.
WR (2): Austin @ Was, Welker vs Jac, Ocho vs KC, SmithNYG vs Car, Sims-Walker @ NE
Austin, and Welker (won last week despite him, Brady still seems banged up) for now. The others may rock….or not.
TE: F Davis, J Finley, Shianco or Witten — I think one of the first two, not sure which one.
D/ST: Have GB in there per your advice, in case you’re having second thoughts: ARI, Cin, Dal, Bal available
K (it’s the money game, kickers count…..I need some FGs!): Hartley, Cundiff, Stover, Scobee, Feely, K Brown, Rackers, Mare.
Thanks for your advice, hope to take the title this weekend. Will be checking in from 5000 miles away assuming my bro-in-law’s internet connection stays strong this week.
Happy Holidays to All!
Sorry – Nugent, not Rackers.
Falcons defense also available…
Would you start Ganther, Harrison or Morris over Addai as RB#2? How about any of them in the flex spot? My WRs are Randy Moss, SS (NYG), Sid Rice, Meachem and Britt.
You were right that Ganther wasn’t a no-brainer over Bradshaw in MNF. I managed to squeak into the championship game. I have the same dilemma this week, but I’ve added Harrison to the mix. (It should be obvious that I’ve had RB issues all season.) I’m now struggling between Bradshaw who has had back to back strong performances, and the one hit wonder up against Oakland. I think it’s safe to take Ganther off the table as between these three given the matchups?
SO I made it through last wk just barely, and only because my opponent played Brady over Big Ben, but I am here. I am up against a team that I will likely lose against, but I at least want to put up a fight. So I need some help…
Need 3 WRs Colston, Meacham, Smith(nyg), Collie, Evans, Bryant, Avery
Need 2 RBs R. Williams, Forte, Ganther
TE Celek or Davis
Kicker Feely (i hope what he did last wk was a one time thing)
DEF San Fran
Also need a flex position out of those listed above. This is a PPR league. Thanks so much for all your help throughout the season!!!! Merry Christmas!
colston, smith, meacham
r williams, ganther
Davis!!
collie
Snelling isn’t startable at home against Buffalo?! Even if Turner plays and Norwood gets some touches, Snelling has done well in the past, and Buffalo is 32nd against the run.
I’ve got Thomas, Addai, Bradshaw and Moreno (went a little nuts on the waiver wire – why not?!) and could get Morris or Bush if I wanted. While Thomas has underproduced, the matchup is too good to let go I think, which is also why I’m looking at Snelling over the others.
Jerome Harrison or jamaal Charles for week 16… Help.. thanks!
Ok Big Decisions, Should I start Peyton Manning or Alex Smith and should I sit DeAngelo Williams for A.Bradshaw or Michael Bush. Please help. Thanks…..
Championship week for me and I rode P. Manning to this point but have to sit him. I now have to decide between Garrard and V. Young at QB. Once other thing to take into consideration is that I have Chris Johnson with Tenn. Fearful about Titans getting shut down and losing a lot of valuable points. Either way, over thinking this decision and need clarity.
RB Should I start Morris or Ganther. And for WR, should I start Meachem or White
No brainer start Meachem Bress will definitly look for blood after losing to Dallas.
A close call but I would start Morris the cowboys look to tough against the run as of lately I do not trust that O-line for the redskins.
OK Bradshaw vs carolina or Hightower vs rams. I would normally go for Tim, but with wells in the mix and the threat that Tim won’t play much if they get up big I’m turning towards bradshaw.
Start Bradshaw! Wells as of the last couple of weeks is getting hotter by the week and Hightower took a turn for the worse during the S.F. game. Bradshaw is now showing his explosive hard charging form again. He has come up big lately when given the opportunity and has made the best of it.
I need 3 WR Murphy, Evans, A. Bryant, Manningham, Cribbs, Morgan please
I’m having some trouble
I have so many good matchups this week that i dont know who to start
[semifinals this week]
I have 1 QB Slot, 3 WR Slots, 2 RB Slots, 1 TE slot, 1 Flex [QB/WR/RB/TE] spot, and 1 DEF spot
I have:
Kurt Warner vs STL
Alex Smith vs DET
Marques Colston vs TB
Robert Meachem vs TB
Michael Crabree vs DET
Percy Harvin vs CHI
Chris Johnson [already started, took up 1 RB spot]
Beanie Wells vs STL
DeAngelo Williams vs NYG [injured]
Rashard Mendenhall vs BAL
Jerome Harrison vs OAK
Fred Davis vs DAL [only TE i have so have to start]
Garrett Hartley vs TB
SF DEF vs DET
GB DEF vs SEA
I don’t know what to do. I have a Flex play. Not sure to use Meachem or Maurice Morris. All the research have them really close on the rankings. First time ever I’m in the Finals.
Actually. here is what i have in general. people are saying Palmer sucks, and that Wayne is going to be rested…now i’m even more super confused. lol.
QB : Carson Palmer / Garrard
2 RB : Chris Johnson / Barber / Maurice Morris
TE : Vernon Davis
2 WR : Reggie Wayne / Desean Jackson / Meachem
1 FLEX : Morris or Meachem? would you substitute Meachem for Wayne if he is resting?
I’ve got an RB problem not a lack of RB but a who to bank on for the chamionship? In my league we have 2 RB spots and @ flex spots
i’ve got Rice, Barber, Beanie Wells, Jerome Harrison, Jerious Norwood(who i’d rather not play), and DeAngelo Williams is doubtful but i’ve got Jonathan Stweart too. the rest of my squad is set it’s just those spots i’m qustioning myself on.
Here’s the order as I see it:
1-Wells
2-Harrison
3-Rice (vs pit or he’d be higher)
4-Stewart (vs NYG)
5-Barber (F Jones)
Try managing these WK 16 STUDS: 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flx. (stndrd without 100 yard bonus’)
Beanie Wells -ST
M Bell -ST
Jones Drew -FLX
Ahmad Bradshaw -BNCH
M Bush – BNCH
Driver – ST
Colston – ST
Wayne – BNCH ;(
S Smith NYG – BNCH
J Morgan – BNCH
I’m leaning towards Bradshaw over Bell,
What do you think guys?
Here are our waiver wire candidates for week 15. We’re coming down to crunch-time now, with the playoffs starting/continuing in nearly every league out there at this point, so hopefully you don’t have to rely too much on the players listed here. As usual, good luck to everyone as you try to get one step closer to that league championship!
Made it to playoffs, need some help though, I’m playing Kevin Faulk instead of McCoy as flex, using R.Bush and Maroney at RB. Thought about Meachem in the flex, buy NE plays Buffalo. Got J.Stewart on the bench this week, might have to put Meachem in for Fitzgereld if he is hurt. I have Alex Smith for next week verse the Lions, cause I know Manning won’t really play that last game, if I make it to the next round. What do you guys think?
My QB situation is horrrible. I have David Garrard and Brady Quinn. Which one do I start? Slim picking on the wire. Also who is the better flex play: Addai or Sidney Rice?
The waiver wire is unavailable for me in the playoffs and I’m forced to choose between starting Marion Barber and Pierre Thomas going head to head in the same game. Pierre has had better games recently, but Mike Bell is supposed to be back, and New Orleans’ run D is worse than Dallas’.
I’m playing the number one seed in the playoffs this week. This would be a huge win. I need 3WR 2RB and 2 flex.
Players I have
WR: TO, Smith(NYG), Hakeem Nicks, Antonio Bryant, Dwayne Bowe, Roddy White, Crabtree, Sims-Walker, Chambers
RB: Pierre Thomas, Ganther, Hightower
Cribbs is also available in my league. I’m most likely playing Ganther after his performance last week. Not to sure about Hightower since he’s been losing carries and having fumble issues of late but he is playing Detroit.
SO thank you for all your help, I have made it through the first round of the playoffs, but this weekend I am playing one of my brother’s and would ofcourse love to win…So I need help with some decisions…
at QB Romo or Orton Romo VS. NO worries me a bit
WRs I am thinking of playing Colston, Meacham and Smith(Nyg)
RBs R. WIlliams and Ganther
DEF Houston…could pick up Seattle if u think that is better
Need flex help or plug these in above…have Forte, L. Evans, Avery, Bess, FLoyd
On the FA list is Aromoshadu, Britt, Camarillo, Knox, A. Bryant
I also have Collie, but am benching him this week seeing that he may not play too much…hopefully I don’t regret that decision.
Thanks for your help!!
Here are our waiver wire candidates for week fourteen. This week we start off with a few quarterbacks who’s play has improved dramatically over the next few weeks. Early in the season, did you ever imagine starting Alex Smith or Vince Young (or Bruce Gradkowski?) in the playoffs? Me neither.
*whew* Limped into the playoffs with 3 straight L’s but still managed to secure a Bye week.
My QB situation has been a crap shoot because I own McNabb, VY, and Alex Smith. Who do I start this week? Purely based on match-ups, I want to start VY…
I was 7-2 and tied for first – 4 straight losses has made me the 5th seed.. guys are just not performing :/
Best week 14 flex play?
Sidney Rice vs CIN
Joseph Addai vs. DEN
Jamaal Charles vs BUF
Jamaal Charles, definitely.
Hey Guys – First off, thanks for helping me win my division, you guys are the best.
Wanted to know your thoughts on my playoff roster:
– At RB I have SJax, Wells, Charles, F Jackson, & Forsett. Thinking about swapping someone for Harrison, as a posible week 15 option should something happen (like SJax’s back finally caving in). Maybe FredJack, or Forsett if it looks like they’ll be sticking to Jones….?
– At WR, Welker, Austin, Ocho, SimsWalker, Smith(NYG). Meacham is available. Worth swapping one for him – will Ocho shine again?
– D/ST – GB & CIN, who do you like going forward? (can also grab DEN, CAR, ARI)
And for the rest:
– TE – Witten & Shiancoe
– K is always the flavor of the week, and Q is Brees.
Big question about whether I’m safer carrying 2 QBs in case Brees gets hurt (would grab Smith), but I’d have to drop something (probably the extra D/ST, hard to part with the others) Are there 2 D’s worth carrying, or do you think I can safely stick with one (probably GB this week, at least)
Thanks!
I’m thinking
Also – Garcon is available too….
…And I the Ravens DEF too, just swapped CIN for them
You’re pretty stacked at WR.. They’re all #1’s on their respective teams. At this point, the only guy I would consider swapping is Steve Smith (NYG) for Meachem since he plays for an offensive juggernaut.
warner or A. smith this week
ffgeekblog STILL rocks!
2 RB 2 WR 1 Flex: MJD, McGahee, Addai, Rock Cartwright; Randy Moss, Steve Smith (NYG), Sid Rice, Britt and Maclin (will go if I get Meachem off waivers).
Although Miami is great against the run, MJD can still receive some passes, he should remain #1… I think the Colts will start resting starters, and Denver is quite tough for Addai. Cartwright will get a million touches and might score 0 TDs… and McGahee could score 3 in 3 carries! Oh boy…
For WRs I am only positive about Moss… Steve Smith *might* be ok against Brown and Samuel… it seems Young can throw the ball, so Britt has potential to wreck the Rams. I don’t like Rice against the Bengals and Maclin was dissapointing.
PD: Hoping to pick up Heap and Ravens to replace Olsen and Vikings… Baltimore’s schedule is pretty soft for the rest of the season.
3 WR 2 RB 2 Flex: Sims Walker, Roddy White, T.O., Smith(NYG), Smith(Car), Crabtree, Chambers, Mike Wallace, Pierre Thomas, Ganther (starting against OAK), and Hightower.
I was thinking Wallace might have a good game if Ward doesn’t play. KC doesn’t have a good pass defense so TO might have a break game.
I’m pretty sure with Thomas and Ganther but Hightower is a good goal line back.
Please help me out.
I also have Chris Brown.
Who to start? Vince Young vs Stloy or Hasselback vs Houston?
Im having a tough time deciding who to start this week at WR and QB…
At QB I have Romo and Smith, and I was dead set on Romo until I read this article…
At WR, ( in a league where we can start 5) I have
Sims-Walker (vs MIA)
Desean Jackson (vs NYG)
Andre Johnson (vs. Sea)
Santonio Holmes (vs. CLE)
Kenny Britt( vs.STL)
Pierre Garcon( vs. DEN)
Britt has been lighting people up lately and so has Garcon. I’m afraid to bench Holmes because of Cleveland’s horrible defense. I need some major help her guys.
Thanks!
Greetings! I’m having a tough time week, finally moved into 4th in our standings, and working to protect that spot and make a team good enough to give some of our overpowered teams a run for their money come weeks 15-17 and I could use some assistance. Here’s my lineup.
QB:
QB: Peyton Manning
WR: Larry Fitzgerald
WR: Marques Colston
RB: Jamaal Charles
RB: Cedric Benson
TE: Heath Miller
W/T: Mike Sims-Walker
W/R: Jason Avant
W/R: Kenny Britt
On the bench:
QB: Mark Sanchez
RB: Mike Bell
RB: Brandon Jacobs
Last week I finally benched Jacobs having moved in Britt into my lineup instead, figuring it was finally time, and it really came back to bite me. I’ve got one empty spot on my roster and would be more than willing to make some moves should there be some options deemed better. There are few availabilities at the QB position (Gradkowski, Boller, Moore being really the only real choices..and not necessarily good ones.) TE Miller’s stock has certainly fallen in the last few weeks, and I’m wondering if Scaife, Finley or Carlson might not be better choices here? (All are available.) Also, I’m not sure about WRs in the next few weeks, since Bess, Breaston, Bryant and Devin Thomas are all available.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
John M says:
Hi:
I need some help. Playoff round(1) 2 week format standard scoring.
RB1 Johnson & RB2 Charle is set.
Flex (LT, Fred. Jackson, Ganther or K. Smith)
WR1 Wayne?_bad Match up & may Colts may rest players. , WR2 & Flex (MSW-D, White-Q, Mason, Smith NY, Britt_”VY -Q”).
Finally:
Do I pick up a back up QB for Rodgers (Smith & Young is avaliable). I have 2 _Kickers. Hartley & Gostkowski). Hartley will have better weather conditions. and 2 TEs (Celek I Shiancoe). Who would you drop?
What do you think, thanks
jm
Here are our waiver wire candidates for week thirteen. With the playoffs rapidly approaching (only one week of the regular season left in my two main leagues,) many teams out there are probably in a “must win” situation this week. Hopefully some of the players below can get you a much needed victory and give you a chance at that championship trophy (or pride, cash, whatever else you get for winning a fantasy football league.) Anyways, let’s get to the waiver wire picks for this week, starting with a few wide receivers that could help your cause… (More …)
Wondering what you guys think about:
– swapping Rock Cartwright for Fred Jackson (other RBs are Sjax, Wells, Forsett, Charles). I like Jackson, Rock has OAK in wk 14, but…not impressive Sunday, and unless Jackson is hurt vs TEN, probably wouldn’t start him then anyway….
– Swapping one of my receivers (SmithNYG or Ochocinco?) for Chambers (also have Welker, Austin, SimsWalker). Now questioning whether to even start Ocho vs DET, he’s really stunk lately.
– Which D/ST(s) are best to hold for rest of season, playoffs start wk14, can hold 2 if necessary: CIN, BAL, GB, DEN, BUF, ARI, ATL, SEA
– we start 2 RB/WR, no flex, non ppr. Thanks, guys, your advice is always stellar.
Keep Cincinatti and Green Bay on Defense.
For this week stay in the NFC West and start Sjax and Forsett. They have both been solid lately. At WR start Austin and SimsWalker.
Chambers wont pan out long run and FJack is more reliable moving forward. Anyone on Was is a tough start every week.
Thanks Shane, I didn’t have much faith in Rock, nice to hear it from someone else.
Who do you think to start this week? Laverrneous Coles,Jason Avant, or Marrio Manningham? I already got Welker and Burleson starting
Need help have two weeks left to clinch playoffs and this week is my toughest match up. I need 3 WR, 2 RB, and 2 FLEX. Here are my players; Sims-Walker, Roddy White, Smith (NYG), Smith (Car), Crabtree, TO, Chambers, Hightower, Pierre Thomas, Norwood, and Larry Johnson.
Please help me out. With TO finally putting up good numbers and Chambers becoming KC’s number 1, I’m not sure who to start.
I also have Antonio Bryant.
I need to start two: Steve Smith (NYG), Chris Chambers, and/or Jason Avant.
It’s tough because while Avant has been putting up reasonable numbers and has great sleeper potential with DJax out it’s hard to start him over Smith or Chambers. On the other hand, Dallas’s pass defense has stepped up over the last few weeks (not to mention Eli’s struggles) and I’m still not sold on Chambers especially against a decent defense in Denver coming off a strong game and a few extra days of rest.
Any thoughts?
I’m sharing in Duncan’s dilemma…
To all: would you pick up D.Bowe or Meachem in exchange for S.Smith (NYG) or Cotchery?
Hi, I would really appreciate some help….
Steelers or Saints Defense?
I need three: Benson, Slaton, Norwood, Pierre Thomas, Chris Brown
I need two: Calvin Johnson, Marques Colston, Pierre Garcon, Hakeem Nicks
Also I have Kurt Warner….if he cant play who makes for a better pickup Chris Redman, Vince Young or David Garrad?
Thanks for the help!
Need to start 3: SmithNYG, Sims-Walker, Burleson, Garcon, Avant and Crabtree.
Thanks for the help!
Cartwright or Norwood?
Not sure who to start. I need to start 1QB, 2 WRs, 2RBs, 1 TE and a flex. Please help. Here is my roster
Cutler
Garrard
Sims-Walker
Andre Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Sid Rice
Ray Rice
Rashard Mendenhall
Joseph Addai
Jamaal Charles
Visanthe Shiancoe
Antonio Gates
Hey Brandon!
Running Short on RB’s this week due to Bernard Scott’s turf toe and Cedric Benson now playing. Should I drop him or does he still warrant a roster spot? My other RB’s are Ricky Williams and Brandon Jacobs, but I really think I need to bench Jacobs because he hasn’t done anything worth starting him so far. With Dallas as a matchup this week it isn’t worth the risk in my opinion. As far as RB’s available to pick up in my league, I have a choice between Felix Jones, Chris Brown, or Sammy Morris. I could drop Scott and pick up any of these RB’s for this week. What do you think? I need to start two RB’s Sunday and Ricky Williams will obviously be one of them.
BTW- Thanks for the advice on picking up Avant, Meachem, and Henderson last week as well as starting Donald Driver! Started Henderson and Driver which was good, but wish I would have started Meachum too! Breaston didn’t get crap and I forgot to check if Warner was out- oops! This week I think I will start Avant, Driver, and Meachum. Do you agree?
I won in my league last week too and beat the guy in 1st place! YEAH! Thanks!!!!
I have a big week this week and team is in shambles. I have to chose a WR and a WR/RB flex option. Players to choose from are cadilac williams, rock cartwrite, pierre garcon, and donnie avery. Not sure on which two should play here. Any help is appreciated

Whats up with Santonio Holmes? Should I pick him up or what? I need WR, but not much to play with.
Brandon 9:58 am on October 27, 2010 Permalink |
He’s definitely worth a roster spot and after this week, his schedule looks pretty inviting. Holmes should only get better with each week he plays with Mark Sanchez, so I’d definitely take a shot on him.
