Tentatively bullish on Jacoby Jones now that it sounds like Andre will be out for a few weeks. Oakland’s defense has been allowing 273 yards through the air per game, so this should be a good opportunity for him to show whether he’s a capable AJ replacement. I like him as a flex start this week.

ESPN Standard league – Flex spot: Darren Sproles, Mike Wallace, or Mike Williams (TB)? Just for clarity: Starting WR’s Wes Welker and Roddy White.

I have Stafford and Newton as my QBs and I’ve been playing Stafford every week.. I’m going to start Newton this week so only address that if I 100% shouldn’t which I’m sure isn’t the case.

I just realized they have the same BYE so I’m going to trade one to better my RBs so I was just wondering who you all thought would be a better choice to hold onto as my QB1 until further notice..

So I have these RBs in a standard league: Chris Johnson, Jahvid Best, Cedric Benson, Joseph Addai, Michael Bush, Willis McGahee, Ryan Torain, and Deangelo Williams. I have a guy offering me Fred Jackson for two of those, and I think he’s particularly high on Torain. Which ones would be the best trade for me and which would probably be the fairest trade (so I know how far to go). 12 teams, standard format, no yardage bonus so touchdowns help. Thanks!

      • steeve 9:56 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hey Eddie, why does it sound to me like you have a lot of RBs for standard format? how many do you start? The most I’ve ever started in a league is 3….was just curious

        • Eddie 10:03 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have way too many. I’m trying to get rid of them but can’t get any decent trades, and I think they all have too much value to drop to the waivers.

          • steeve 10:08 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

They definitely do.. I was stacked at RB in my CBS league and I ended up dropping M.Bush but I can only start 2 RBs max so it may be a different scenario..

Did you work out the trade for Jackson?

            • Eddie 1:52 pm on October 7, 2011 Permalink

I’m now offering McGahee, Torain, and Jacoby Ford for Fred Jackson and Mario Manningham – still a good trade for me, right? Is Torain overvalued right now or am I undervaluing him?

So after tons of injuries, costing me my first 3 picks, I have managed to piece together what I think is a pretty darn good salvage team. However, I am not sure who to start over who.
      Here is my current starting line;
      M. Stafford (He has been a lucky pick/up and awesome)
RB1) Ryan Mathews (Has exceeded expectation thus far and moved to my 1 spot)
RB2) Ahmad Bradshaw (Steady and good)
      RB3) ?????
WR1) Jordy Nelson (Everyone looks over him, but he keeps putting up numbers, I keep wanting to put other big names over him but cant)
WR2) Percy Harvin (New p/u and does well, could be better)
TE) Pettigrew (In for Witten, who is the MAN on BYE week)
Defense) Giants (in flex for Jets)
      K) Rackers

Knowing that, here are my other options, who would you choose to put in / is there someone you like better of; Mike Tolbert, Mar Colston, Deon Branch, Reggie Wayne, Matt Ryan?????

PS I had Santonio Holmes and he gave me nothing, mostly cause of the line and Sanchez but I dropped him

    Week 16 FAIL: Championship Failures

Here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

With championships around the world on the line, a couple superstars decided it was a good day to take the day off. Andre Johnson was a late scratch and Maurice Jones-Drew left fantasy owners high and dry (unless they picked up Rashad Jennings to back him up!) Philip Rivers and the rest of the Chargers played one of their worst games of the season, while Peyton Hillis, Michael Turner and Chris Johnson tried their hardest to (not) reward those who relied on them all season. Anyways, hopefully you still managed to pull off the victory in your league’s championship!

I’ve included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a separate worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up.

Anyways, here are the rest of them (and here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet)…

Got lucky this week! I benched Boldin and Andre (after I found out for sure that he would not be playing). I had Manningham ready to go. Before the early games I was seriously thinking about Jennings, but decided to dance with the player I have. Hillis didn’t hurt me too bad and Freeman came up HUGE!! My biggest disappointment was Welker. Having Woodhead in the lineup helped balance that on out.
I ended up winning by 19 points!! My first Championship!
Thanks for all the help this season & have a Happy New Year!

Not sure what the response by the league will be, but I assume there’s a chance of a suspension in Andre Johnson’s future. Could put a damper on a couple team’s playoff chances over the next week or so…

UPDATE: He won’t get a suspension, just a $25,000 fine. So you can breathe easier…

Injury update: The word floating around the Twitterverse is that Ray Rice and Jahvid Best practiced in full and should be good to go this weekend. Unfortunately though, Andre Johnson, Steven Jackson, Pierre Thomas and Owen Daniels will be most likely be game-time decisions πŸ™

I’m lookin at Jacoby Jones on my bench more and more. If Andre and Daniels are out what do you think of his chances?

      My alternatives are:
      D Thomas
      L Moore
      R Williams
      A Hernandez (W/T spot)
      L Naanee
      D McCluster

Yes. My bench is almost all waiver WRs. I scooped up a bunch to possibly find some trades if I need them later on.

Go with Jahvid Best, who is starting this week. As for Andre Johnson though, that’s a tough one. If you want to be safe, you might start Lance Moore, who should see an increased number of targets with Reggie Bush out. Hard to figure out what’s going on with AJ right now though. I agree with Tommy on Alex Smith, but at receiver I like Robert Meachem, who should rebound with a touchdown this week as the Saints fight for home field advantage through the playoffs. All of those receivers make solid plays though.

Those are some ridiculous options. Andre Johnson is the absolute must-start of this group. Even though you’d normally think of Moss as a must-start, I’d bench him in your case because he’s gone five games in a row without a 100-yard performance, that troubling one-catch game was only two weeks ago, and he’s averaged just over three catches per game over the past five.

I’m looking pretty good going into the championship game with a healthy team and great matchups to boot while my opponent has some really tough matchups, a key guy that might sit and injury problems.

Last week I started (we get return yards btw).:

      Tony Gonzalez
James Harrison (this week I picked up Beason for this slot)

      My opponent has
Harrison (he picked him up this week for Forsett, he’s got Turner out)
      Dallas Clark
      London Fletcher

My question is related to my RBs. I had been using Pierre Thomas all year long until 2 weeks ago but it’s been effort poorly spent.

I have been toying around with the idea of starting Wells and Thomas this week to avoid the Steelers run D with Rice but there’s no way to bench him. So Wells or Thomas? Right now I’m leaning heavy towards Wells since hes the man, riding a 2 game TD streak and even the Texans could run on the Rams, plus I expect AZ to get up early.

      • Matt 9:51 am on December 24, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I agree – you’re going with Wells for all the right reasons. This is going to be a rout and the Cards use Wells far more than Hightower in these kinds of games, with last week’s game in Detroit (17 rush, 110 yards and a score) a perfect example of what he can do against a bad opponent. He’s a virtual lock for a nice game, whereas the same certainly can’t be said for Thomas, who hasn’t found the end zone since week 11.

WR – Smith. By a mile. Don’t overthink this one.
DEF – Pats. But check your waiver wire. Are the Falcons or Cowboys available? (See my post on this.)

this is who I have, who should I start. Some are obvious put I’m still putting my whole line up.

      QB – Rivers, Orton
RB – C. Johnson, Ganther, M. Morris, Jennings, Westbrook
WR – Austin, Ochocinco, Avery, Burleson, J. Morgan
      DEF – SF or NE

      • Matt 9:58 am on December 24, 2009 Permalink | Reply

QB – Rivers by a mile, no question.
        RB – CJ + Ganther
WR – Austin + Ocho (by a mile)
        DEF – 49ers. Again, by a mile.

These are all straightforward picks, which is great – no second-guessing.

We play 1 QB and I must start a min of 1 RB and 1 WR above. I have three more slots for RB/WR mix. Who should I start?

I worry about Romo this week – Washington shut him down pretty well earlier in the season, and despite their issues they always show up to play in division games. Smith has Detroit, one of the sweetest matchups for any fantasy QB, and in your shoes I think I’d give him a shot over Romo.

There’s no way you bench Harrison this week. Absolutely no way, especially given that he’s got another sweet matchup. So go with him, both Jacksons, Rice, and Moss.

Hey Guys, looking for advice from anyone who would like to share it.

My RB situation is totally messing with my head.

      Pick 2

Marion Barber…coming off his best game of the season and up against the pitiful Redskins.
Jonathan Stewart…if Deangelo is out again this guy seems to dominate. Going up against a decent Giants run D.
Lawrence Maroney…at home vs. the Jags, he has been my most consistent back over the last few weeks. I also have Brady though, so if the Pats get shut out or limited to FGs then I’m screwed by playing both guys. (I know its unlikely)
Pierre Thomas…on the best offense in the league, but has really been pretty lousy for the last 4-5 games. No PPR for RBs in in my league, otherwise he’d be a must start. Up against the Bucs worst run D in the NFL.
      And the Sleeper.
Last weeks mystery stud Michael Bush…I’m not really considering him, but he did have a huge game last week, and this week he plays the god awful Browns.

      Thanks!! Merry Xmas.

Here’s another one. Chris Chambers or Hakeem Nicks. RE Nicks, I shy away from bad hammies, but I think his projections are rising. Someone knows something! As of now I have Chambers penciled in.

Gotta agree with Tommy here, go with Maurice Morris.

      Merry Christmas!
I would like some lineup help please. I am in a PPR league that rewards return yardage. Thanks for your help!
      QB: Aaron Rodgers
RB: Ray Rice, Thomas Jones, Beanie Wells, Forsett, or Hightower.
WR: Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Miles Austin, or Johnny Knox (I need two)
TE: Jermichael Finley or Fred Davis (I need one)
Flex: Any of the above WR’s or RB’s (I need one)

      Thanks again!

Sorry. Forgot to say how many RBs I need. I need two. Thanks again!

I agree with Tommy for the most part, but I like Jermichael Finley over Fred Davis this week. I wish you could get Thomas Jones in there somehow, but it looks like he’ll have to cheer your team on from the bench this week.

I’ve got Gonzalez at TE. Finley is available, and I’m looking to find points anywhere I can get them. Thoughts as between the two? Gave up Vernon Davis earlier in the season thinking that I would never justify starting him over Tony G. Don’t want to foolishly overestimate Gonzo again. Your advice is always appreciated.

      • Brandon 11:38 pm on December 26, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’d stick with Gonzo this weekend. He’s been getting looks on a consistent basis all season and there’s no real reason to switch to Finley.

Help! At QB — Matt Schaub or Alex Smith?

      • Tw 5:45 am on December 27, 2009 Permalink | Reply

SF is not playing for their play-off lives and has a running game, Smith looked poor last wk, DET is improving
        I’d stick with Schaub
        GOOD LUCK

I agree with Tw here, go with Schaub who plays a Dolphins team that was just lit up by Vince Young of all people last week.

In the final – $600 on the line playing the number 1 team
      PPR, 1pt/20yds rush/rec, 6 pts/TD
Need 2 RB: Rice, Wells, PT, Harrison
Need 2 WR: Colston, Driver, Crabtree
      Need 1 TE: Dallas Clark,Finley
Am thinking Rice, Wells, Colston, Crabtree, Finley
Worth mentioning that my opponent has Rogers, so Finley over Clark seems like the right move (IND may rest starters). Really torn over Driver vs. Crabtree.
      My line-up (as of now):
Brees, Rice, Wells, Colston, Crabtree, Finley, Bironas, Cards D

Rogers, AP, Benson, Wayne, Welker, Winslow, Akers, Ravens D
How do you like my chances???

      • Brandon 11:09 am on December 27, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I also like Rice, Wells, Colston and Finley, but at receiver I’d go with Donald Driver, who has proven to have more big game potential than Crabtree at this point.

As for your chances, it should be a pretty good battle, but hopefully Reggie Wayne has a short day and gives you the slight edge. Good luck and feel free to “donate” a bit of those winnings to the FFGeekBlog cause!

Driver w/ Finley helps cover rodgers better
Starting colston w. brees gives you the edge
      Good luck

Hakeem Nicks (bad hammie but his projections seem to be rising) or Chris Chambers?

      • Brandon 10:56 am on December 27, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I guess if you hear that Nicks is starting when they announce the actives/inactives, you could consider starting him, but I’d just go with Chambers who is definitely going to start and continues to put up numbers for the Chiefs.

Schaub or Brees . . . in the Finals. Decisions Decisions

      • Brandon 11:03 am on December 27, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that’s a tough (but good) decision to have to make. Last time the Saints played Tampa Bay, he didn’t rack up all that much yardage, but he still managed three touchdowns. I’m guessing this week he throws for some solid yards and again gets the touchdowns as well as his team fights to clinch home field advantage in the playoffs. Go with Brees.

      tough calls
      Thomas Jones or Jamaal Charles
      Mike Sims-walker or Hines Ward

Go with Santonio Holmes. The other guys are too inconsistent or risky (if Peyton sits early.)
