Apparently the best looking team in the NFL is the Buffalo Bills? Matt must have stuffed the ballot box.

This is the most pointless article I’ve ever read. They base physical attractiveness on “facial symmetry” alone? Murdoch’s doing a heckuva job with the WSJ.

The Buffalo Bills have signed free agent WR/QB Brad Smith. Matt (my co-blogger) is A) Happy, B) Mad, C) Indifferent or D) Confused?

Definitely A. There aren’t many all-around contributors on Smith’s level in the league.

    Free agency updates

    • QB Bruce Gradkowski signs with the Cincinnati Bengals…and becomes their new starter I think?
    • New Orleans Saints reportedly have re-signed WR Lance Moore to a new contract.
    • RB Frank Gore threatening to hold out when training camp begins. Add him to the list of slightly risky first round picks, along with Chris Johnson (also threatening to hold out.)
    • RB DeAngelo Williams re-signs with the Panthers. Jonathan Stewart cries.
    • The New York Jets sign free agent receiver Santonio Holmes to a new long term deal.
    • Wide receiver Donte Stallworth to the Washington Redskins.
    • I’m hearing Donovan McNabb to the Minnesota Vikings as a veteran bridge for rookie Christian Ponder.
    • The Buffalo Bills bring in some competition for incumbent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with the signing of journeyman Tyler Thigpen.
    • Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck signs a deal with the Tennessee Titans, immediately becoming the starter and giving some credibility to the passing game…if they had any receivers.

Bills to draft QB Cam Newton with the #3 pick?

I primarily wanted to get Matt’s opinion on how it would work out if Buffalo drafted Cam Newton with the #3 pick in the draft. As a Patriots fan, I think it’d be pretty cool to get to play against him a couple times each season, as long as he lives up to the potential and provides similar excitement to what Michael Vick brings to the games he plays.

Well, here’s the thing. I can’t speak for every Bills fan, but I like Ryan Fitzpatrick. Even if he’s a little erratic at times, I think he’s the leader the team needs. Guys play hard for him; it looks like a different team when he’s on the field than it ever did when Edwards or Losman was behind center.

Is Cam Newton an exciting player that just about any fan would be happy to see their team draft? Sure. The buzz from his recent workout is hard to ignore. But the Bills have so many other needs that have gone unaddressed. The defense is without a true playmaker; if Nick Fairley or Da’Quan Bowers were to fall to #3, I’d be downright pissed if the Bills didn’t take them. Fairley’s my dream pick – someone who can stuff the run and scare the bejeezus out of Tom Brady.

Or maybe the Patriots trade up for Fairley so they can scare the bejeezus out of Cam Newton (if the Bills were to draft him!)

In an act of solidarity with my un-undefeated Bills, I just picked up and started their defense in all of my leagues. OK, this is partly because I have a hunch that someone (perhaps the ghost of Jairus Byrd) takes a Cutler pass back for six today. Really, you can’t go wrong starting any defense against Jay Cutler, ever. At least I hope not.

They should just make the Bills play the Cowboys at the end of the season for fun.

They did that for a couple years in a row in the 90’s and you know how that turned out!
