Who made it to the championship?

fantasy football trophyJust checking if we managed to help any of our readers to their league’s championship games. Hopefully at least one of you did!

I ended up in the championship game for one of the big leagues that Matt and I are in…and we play each other for the trophy! Check back later this afternoon for a post about the 2011 FFGeekBlog.com Bowl šŸ™‚

In my public league, I’m one game away from the championship and in the other big league Matt and I do, my team was one Hakeem Nicks dropped touchdown…or Nicks called back touchdown (as you can see, I’m not especially pleased with Hakeem Nicks!) away from the big game. Maybe I can pull off third place and get one of those fancy bronze trophy icons that Yahoo so graciously hands out though.

    Anyways…how’d YOU do?!

I’m in championship in my hardest league. Rolling with hakeem nicks, romo, jordy nelson, mjd, shonn Greene, jermichael finley, seahawks d, then need to choose between mike tolbert, torrey smith, lance Moore (who I luckily started, whew), kahill guy from chi, lance ball, and Sammy morris I guess haha. Any thoughts?

Yessir. Made it with Carson Palmer, Tarvaris Jackson, Jordy, L Robinson, McCoy, Foster, Finley, Nicks, Crosby, and Detroit’s D. Now I gotta figure out what to do with my WRs this week (Nelson, Robinson, Nicks, Decker, Manningham, Driver, Brown). Made it to the ‘Ship thanks to Detroit’s late TD; forced Palmer to throw and gave me a 4 point win (rather than a 1.5 point loss!!). Thoughts on my WR situation. Thinking of going with Nelson and Robinson. Thinking Driver cause he’s so close to his 10k career receiving yards benchmark, but don’t know if I will be putting “too many eggs in one basket” with 3 Packers (Nelson, Finley, Driver) this week. Thoughts?

        • Christy 1:28 pm on December 20, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Neil, I started 3 Giants last week (Nicks, Cruz, & Bradshaw) and didn’t do so well as a result. My usual theory is that if they’re your best players, you might as well start them even if they’re on the same team. What happened to me is that Eli Manning kept throwing interceptions and giving the ball away, and as a result, it really hurt my fantasy production. But I think the Packers are generally a more reliable offense than the Giants, so you’re probably good to go. If it were me, I’d go with Robinson and Nicks.

Thanks! Yea, I am probably going to stick wtih what got me the win this last week. Nelson, Robinson, and Nicks. Why change what has been working for so many weeks, right?

I’m in the championship in my easier league. I’m for sure starting Stafford, McCoy, Mendenhall, Graham, and Crosby. WR’s/flex and D are up in the air. I often start Wallace, Nicks, and Cruz, but I also have Dez Bryant & Ahmad Bradshaw. For D’s I have the Titans (been doing a defense-by-committee strategy) but after last week, I’m thinking of picking up the Bengals. Advice on my WR/flex situation?

    • Rich 4:16 pm on December 20, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I made the championship by literally a tenth of a point. I needed Gates to make 31 yards to tie it and he did. So, the bench determined the winner. I got rodgers, benson, blount, nicks, megatron, and sproles. I might put stafford in for rodgers.

    • Danny 9:32 pm on December 20, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Made the championships as well!! It was a competitive league with 14 teams…
Phillip Rivers, Jordy Nelson, Victor Cruz, Dez Bryant, Ray Rice, Marshawn Lynch, Jermaine Gresham, Kahlil Bell, Peyton Hillis, and (hoarded 4 defenses to keep from other teams picking them up…) SEA d, DET d, DAL d, CIN d.

I lost in the Championship last season in one of my leagues and I made it again this year.. I lost my 1st game of this season and won my next 12 to grab #1 seed and 1st round bye and missed out on high points for the season by 4. My team isn’t as strong as it was since I lost Fred Jackson and Demarco Murray though..

I have Tony Gonzalez and my opponent has Michael Turner and Roddy White so my question is whether or not I should roll with Matt Ryan.. Tebow got me more points than Ryan would have last week but this week I’m not so sure.. I figure ATL vs. NO will be a shootout so I’d be hoping for a T.Gonz touch or two and very little Turner/White..haha

    Good luck in the championship!

I just wanted to wish everyone good luck in their championship (or third, fifth, or even seventh place) match this week! It’s been a great year for the Fantasy Football Geek Blog and hopefully we’ve provided at least a little useful/amusing information to our readers. Anyways, here is my match-up in the championship of the keeper league Matt and I are in. After dispatching Matt in the semi-finals, my next opponent is my old college roommate, Rob. Take a vote and let me know who you think will win all the marbles!

Man you’re lucky you have good RBs because the rest of your team is severely lacking. Any particular reason why you’re playing Miami’s defense this week? I feel much safer with a defense like St. Louis. Good Luck!

      • Brandon 1:40 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, my running backs were definitely the strong point. However, I had the good version of Kyle Orton at quarterback most of the year and T.O. (who I just dropped) putting up solid numbers most of the way. My starting receivers were Boldin, T.O. and Wallace, who were decent for the most part.

As for my defense, looking at the numbers between Miami and St. Louis, they aren’t all that different over the past four games or so. Last time St. Louis played the 49ers, they only scored 5 points as a defensive unit anyways. If I lose, something tells me it won’t be because of my defense šŸ™‚

Yeah what was up with that?! I was expecting a 150 yard, 2 score game or something. Oh well, can’t complain too much, especially since our league gives a little bonus for breaking 100 yards and he got that fourth catch to put him right over the line

Hillis (very early season FA pick-up) brought me to the dance, and Freemen (picked up last week) put up fantastic numbers!! Good thing too because Welker, McFadden, and Hillis were rather disappointing.

I was in the same situation as you with Freeman carrying my money league team in a week when many elites failed to post elite numbers. I clinched the championship during MNF when White caught that TD. $140 coming my way baby!

I now have a 24 point lead vs LeSean McCoy. I am hoping the the Philly O sticks with Vick and DeShowboat Jackson. If so, I will net a little over $200!

Sadly I got smoked as my triple threat at running back failed me in the most important game. Even Josh Freeman on my bench wouldn’t have saved me from getting dominated 159 to 91. Oh well, I guess there’s always next year. Plus, at least I got second place and a small prize for that.

User Requested Player Ranks – Week 16

This year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. This week I’ve kicked off the lists with the top five players from last week at each position. You can find the spreadsheet after the jump. (More …)

Iā€™m going play my league championship game this week and im having hard time to decide who to start. Regular settings so i have to take 2 wr, 2rb and a flex.
Who would you take from those 8 that i have on my roster:
Mccoy, Blount, Bradshaw, Woodhead, Marshall, Colston, S Johnson and Maclin.
      Please advise me Geeks.

      • Brandon 9:09 am on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Some solid options you have there. I’d go with LeSean McCoy, LeGarrette Blount, Marques Colston, Jeremy Maclin and Ahmad Bradshaw. Hard to tell you to bench Marshall after his last couple games and Stevie Johnson who has been solid all year, but who knows what kind of weather they’ll see up in Buffalo over the weekend. Good luck!

Thanks, I’m quite confident to go with McCoy, Blount and Maclin. Still have doubts for picking two from Closton, Bradshaw, Woodhead, Marshall and Johnson.

First of all, I wanted to thank you for all the help throughout this year. You guys are great. I’m in two championships this week and need one last week of help.

      QB: Flacco
RB: Mendenhall, Ray Rice, Donald Brown, Ryan Torain, Tashard Choice, Maurice Morris
WR: Malcom Floyd, Santonio Holmes, Pierre Garcon, Santana Moss, Deion Branch, Mike Williams (SEA)
      TE: Jimmy Graham

      • Brandon 3:36 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Just finished adding them to the list. Good luck and glad we could help!

    • Hawgman 10:50 am on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

      Please add the following:
      QB – Freeman, Roethlisberger
RB – McFadden, Hillis, Felix Jones, Steven Jackson, Woodhead
WR – Andre Johnson, Boldin, Manningham, Welker, Woodhead
      TE – Vernon Davis, Witten
      D/ST – Chicago, Cleveland

My biggest worries are at the QB and Flex positions. We start one QB, two W/R, and one W/T (along with one RB, one TE, a wasted spot on a K, and a D/ST). My current lineup looks like this:
      QB – Freeman
      WR – Andre
      WR – Welker
      RB – McFadden
      TE – Witten
      W/T – Woodhead
      W/R – Steven Jackson
      W/R – Hillis
      K – Who cares
      D/ST – Chicago

Looking forward to your thoughts. Good luck to everyone on the planet (with the exception of my sister-in-law!)

      • Brandon 3:45 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Added them on there. If Felix Jones plays this week, I think you have to start him over Woodhead against a soft Cardinals run defense. If he’s out though, it makes the decision easy. I have Manningham over Welker as well. Any way you roll, good luck man! Thanks for representing our readers all season.

        • Hawgman 4:28 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Is the AZ run D softer than the Bills?
Manningham worries me because he is on the road (outside) and the GB D is pretty stout.
Thanks for all the advice and TIME! Good luck in your game!

          • Brandon 1:54 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

They’re both pretty lousy against the run, but the Cardinals have let up the second most fantasy points to opposing running backs this year, while the Bills are the fifth most. The Bills just played some solid run defense against Peyton Hillis and Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams as well, so maybe they’re stepping it up at this point in the year.

I have a QB decision to make for the Championship. Big Ben vs CAR, Grossman vs JAX, or Tebow vs HOU? the Steelers will probably have so much success running the ball, they won’t need to throw… I’m strongly considering Tebow.

      • Brandon 3:39 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Wow, this is an interesting one. Roethlisberger’s match-up, plus his numbers over the past couple games, make him a very unappealing play. Because Grossman has at least some experience, I have him ranked a spot ahead of Big Ben. However, I still have Tebow at the bottom of the list. He scares me too much and now that there’s some NFL video of him to go on, I’m wondering how the Texans will handle him. If you’re the gambling type, roll the dice…he’s the most fun play out of the group!

I am in my Yahoo league championship this week and my opponent and I are very close with projected points. How do you feel about Philly’s D this week? I currently have the Jets and Dallas, but I thought about dropping one for Philly this week. Also, I see Brandon is starting Aquan, but he’s been awful as far as fantasy points. I can’t afford another no show this week. Do I start him or Blair White?

      • Hawgman 11:09 am on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

If it were me, I would stick with the Jets D/ST. I also have Boldin. He will be safely on my bench. I feel pretty good about my WR crew, but if I didn’t, I would grab White in a second.

      • Brandon 1:33 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I love the Philly defense this week and just put it at the top of my rankings for the teams listed. Joe Webb will undoubtedly fumble or throw an interception and if it’s a pick-six, you’re golden! As for your receiver question, Blair White makes a decent play, but I still like the upside of Boldin more. I know he hasn’t been great for two straight weeks, but I’m hoping for a week 10 or 13 type of game from him. The last time he played the Browns, Boldin went insane for 142 yards and three scores. Don’t expect a repeat, but hopefully he can do SOMETHING!

        • Natalie 6:55 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Thanks Brandon, I just picked them up and placed Boldin back at starting WR. I do have a flex spot that can be a second WR/TE (I already have Tamme starting), so should I place Blair White in that spot or keep Tony Gonzalez there?

I also have three QB’s, since I never really had a strong QB in the draft. I started with Cutler, but I also picked up Cassel and Kitna over the season. Cassel was great a few weeks, but Kitna has been my money lately. Should I stick with him? I’m hoping they don’t mainly run the ball this week.

Thanks for all the help this season!!! My RB’s have been awesome this year…. Peyton Hillis, A. Foster, and Ray Rice! They are ALL starting! šŸ™‚

Still alive in my last $$$ money … I beat the #1 seed as an #8 seed this past week to move to the semis … I’ve got a make-shift lineup I’ve been messing with all year … here’s what I got:

      QB Aaron Rodgers * (22.37)
      QB Tim Tebow (18.49)
      QB/WR Joe Webb * (11.48)
      WR Stevie Johnson * (8.40)
      WR Kenny Britt (11.23)
      WR Anquan Boldin (8.07)
      RB Jamaal Charles * (11.23)
      RB Brian Westbrook * (9.77)
      RB Anthony Dixon (6.96)
      RB Michael Bush * (7.55)
      RB Donald Brown (8.90)
      TE Vernon Davis (7.16)
      K David Akers * (10.77)
      DEF Pittsburgh * (14.59)

      * = currently starting
      (X.XX) = projected points

so, you can start the following: QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, WR/RB/TE, K, DEF … do you like my line-up …

      • Brandon 1:37 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I think the only change you need to make is to swap out your third RB for kenny Britt in the flex spot. Other than that, you look pretty good!

        • Nero 1:46 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

You think Britt has a good game against Brandon Flowers and company? KC’s pass defense, at home, is actually quite good – don’t you think?

          • Brandon 1:53 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

The Chiefs were good against the Broncos at home a couple weeks ago, but in the two home games prior to that receivers from Arizona and Buffalo did some damage to them. I just see Britt as the focus of the Titans passing game at this point and there’s a solid chance he finds the endzone with defenses still keying in on Chris Johnson in the backfield.

Two flex slot choices for the championship game in two different leagues:
      1 – Knox, D. Brown, Hightower
2 – Moreno (even if he goes, I’m worried about him), Mike Williams (SEA), or D. Brown

      • Brandon 1:48 pm on December 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Wow, you got some tricky choices there. For the first one, I’d wait and see if Joseph Addai is going to play. If so, go with Knox, otherwise, roll with Donald Brown and hope for a repeat of last week. In the second scenario, same goes for Donald Brown. If Addai plays though, roll with Mike Williams. with AP out on monday, i watched my opponent who played joe webb chip away at my 14 point lead. won by .47 points and am in the championship game now. it was nuts. it’s going a tough matchup, this guy has arian foster, chris johnson, tom brady, jennings, mike wallace, philly Def, akers.

vs. my SF giants-esque team (could you add too):
      donald driver
      adrian peterson
      jacoby ford

do you go with shayne graham or david buheler? play tebow, freeman instead of kitna? i have been rolling the dice on a WR3 all season long (have to play Stevie Johnson to the end right? open to any WR suggestions you may have…!) my live by AP die by AP mentality also nearly kept me out of the championship.
right now, yahoo projects opponent with 138 pts, me with 123.

thanks brandon, it’s been a great season!

I’d go David Buehler, Jon Kitna and keep Stevie Johnson in there. As for Adrian Peterson, it depends on your other options I guess. First of all you need to make sure he plays, but assuming he does, who would you consider playing instead of him?

my opponent got to rashad before i did. now his projected pts for this week is 148! meaningless i know, but still. I’d only have torain to play over AP.
for kickers usually, (ie shayne graham) if it’s snowing and whatnot, you don’t play them right?
i just have kitna, witten, DAL defense, and then buehler going today then. hate having points before my opponent does for some reason. banking a lot on dallas!

McMichael is more probably the more consistent start, while Hernandez is the boom-or-bust start. Just remember that Randy McMichael is NOT Antonio Gates and is not the same force that Gates was in the red zone. Go with Hernandez and I’ll cheer him on with you!

Actually, just checked the status of Hernandez and he’s listed as questionable and his injury doesn’t seem all that promising. He could give it a go, but who knows how effective he is. Go with McMichael who is definitely the safer play this week.

Can you add Larry Fitzgerald, Sidney Rice, Tim Hightower, Brandon Jacobs, Fred Jackson, and Kevin Boss?

Any input on my line-up for the week would be appreciated! I am torn with my WRs (S. Moss especially). Moss has been good for me this season, has had a good couple weeks and has a good matchup against Jacksonville. I’ve been thinking about putting Moss in for Nicks based on the matchups.

      I got starting:

      QB – Michael Vick
      RB – Arian Foster
      RB – Fred Jackson
      WR – Calvin Johnson
      WR – Larry Fitzgerald
      WR – Hakeem Nicks
      TE – Kevin Boss

Man you’re in a tough (but good) spot with those wide receivers. You need to be in a league with a flex spot! I like all of them (and even like Garcon too.) Subbing out Nicks for Moss might work out, as Moss has a great match-up. It’s hard to bench Nicks, but he’s got a game AT Green Bay, who have been solid against receivers this year. Wish I could be more definite, but good luck however you go!

Here’s what I’ve got for you this week:
Kitna, Fitzpatrick, Jamaal Charles, Ryan Matthews, Brian Westbrook, Zach Miller, and the Jacksonville D.

Sorry I never made it to this one. Did you end up starting all the right players?!

Hey man, sorry I never got around to this. Did it work out for you?

I went with Jennings but the real mistakes were Vick and DJax. Lost by about 18… with Cutler and Manningham on the pine.

Hard to say they were mistakes. NO WAY you were sitting Michael Vick! Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess…

Haha so true. I was just happy to be in the Super Bowl… and our league pays out to 2nd place, so I got a consolation prize for my efforts. šŸ™‚ Until next year Geeks! Happy New Year!
