As next week will be week 12 in the NFL, there is a good chance that some of your fantasy teams are already mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs in your leagues. If you happen to be in this scenario, but also happen to be in a keeper/dynasty league, make sure to check out the wide receivers on our waiver wire post this week, as there are some good targets to stock up for next year!

    FFGeekBlog Keeper League draft results

Last night Matt and I took part in our annual keeper league draft and you can see the teams we ended up with below. So who made out the best? You can see the keepers with the small “k” next to them. The league is 0.5 PPR, in case that matters to you.

Interestingly, Matt and I play each other in the first week of the season, so we should know the answer pretty soon!

oh nm, I didn’t notice the “K” next to him

yeah his 12th round pick looks pretty nice next to my 12th round pick 🙂

I think Josh Freeman may be the sleeper QB this year. You may get the better end of this Brandon!

            • Brandon 10:25 am on August 24, 2011 Permalink

That’s what I was hoping, but that game against the Patriots scared me where they made him look like a rookie again. Maybe he’s still shaking off the rust?

            • Yenool 10:32 pm on August 26, 2011 Permalink

Freeman shouldn’t be a keeper though. You really didn’t have any other options? He’s a fringe top 12 QB this year in that system. You obviously have the adv in WR while Matt has the RB adv. So the scale tips in Matt’s favor based on QB.

    • Brandon 8:42 pm on August 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

19-13? It was all tied up earlier today! Was Matt’s draft really that much better than mine?!

    • Matt 1:22 pm on August 25, 2011 Permalink | Reply

The thing I’m happiest about with this draft is that paying attention to the PPR factor netted me three really valuable RBs. Rice, Hillis and Forte ranked 3rd, 4th and 8th among all RBs in receptions last season.

      • Brandon 1:55 pm on August 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Looks like the people have spoken…and they love your draft, ya bastard. Oh well, we’ll see what really happens come week 1! I like my team for PPR as well, with some solid WR and pass catching RB’s.

        • Matt 3:42 pm on August 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

As well they should. When your starting lineup in a PPR league includes Vick, Ray Rice and Peyton Hillis, that’s reason to feel pretty good.

    • Brandon 1:35 pm on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hmm, at this point in the year my team (43 votes) is 3-0 and Matt’s (64 votes) is 0-3.

    Who should I keep?

In our keeper league, I have the following prospects for this year’s roster. Please vote on your top TWO picks and hopefully it will help me decide. Thanks!

Note: My first two keepers are Darren McFadden (round 6) and Mike Wallace (round 9), so I’m in pretty good position I have to believe. Also, this league is PPR with some scoring for return yards.

Who should I keep as my 12th round pick?

    • Josh Freeman, QB, Buccaneers (49%, 56 Votes)
    • Owen Daniels, TE, Texans (19%, 22 Votes)
    • Lance Moore, WR, Saints (12%, 14 Votes)
    • Jacoby Ford, WR, Raiders (10%, 11 Votes)
    • Aaron Hernandez, TE, Patriots (10%, 11 Votes)

    Total Voters: 88

Josh Freeman. Tough upcoming schedule, but I think you can at least ‘flip him’ since he’s got good trade value. Plus, he can get points with his feet too. That’s a good trait for a guy who can also sling the rock.

      • Brandon 6:39 pm on August 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Thanks man. I guess I’ll go with Freeman and lock him in as my QB2…at least I think. Owen Daniels is still calling out to me 🙂

      (12) Josh Freeman, QB, Buccaneers – I may have went Jacoby Ford until he broke his hand.

    • Hawgman 9:53 am on August 4, 2011 Permalink | Reply

All I know is that I picked up Josh Freeman a couple of days before my championship game (had a benched Orton and Big Ben on the roster and did not like either prospect) and he delivered the prize! Just sayin’…

      • Brandon 6:40 pm on August 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I was thinking Freeman, but then I read an article saying he was overrated and being drafted too high. Daniels is a thought, as it allows me to get a solid TE without having to worry about drafting one in the first 11 rounds.

        • Hawgman 10:32 am on August 6, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I think the 12th round for Freeman is just about right. I was not saying you should keep him, I was just bragging about my crystal ball, my rabbit’s foot, and my championship (delivered by Freeman’s SIX TD’s in W16).

I’m thinking about switching my TE in a .5 PPR league.

I was bullish on Moeaki b/c I think he’ll have a good 2nd year, but Gonzalez, Graham, Miller, Gronkowski, Keller, and Heap are available. Who should I go with? I can only keep one TE realistically (short benches)

    • Brandon 7:56 pm on August 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I ended up keeping Josh Freeman. Thanks for the input everyone!

Speaking of keepers, I have a dilemna in a keeper league. I’m picking in the first 5 picks, everyone keeps 2 players. Trying to decide between Ray Rice (would keep in 3rd round), Blount (12th round), Jermichael Finley (11th round). Most likely Foster, Charles, McCoy, Mendenhall and Hillis will all be kept and not available in the draft. Anyone have any input?

    Good luck in the championship!

I just wanted to wish everyone good luck in their championship (or third, fifth, or even seventh place) match this week! It’s been a great year for the Fantasy Football Geek Blog and hopefully we’ve provided at least a little useful/amusing information to our readers. Anyways, here is my match-up in the championship of the keeper league Matt and I are in. After dispatching Matt in the semi-finals, my next opponent is my old college roommate, Rob. Take a vote and let me know who you think will win all the marbles!

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Man you’re lucky you have good RBs because the rest of your team is severely lacking. Any particular reason why you’re playing Miami’s defense this week? I feel much safer with a defense like St. Louis. Good Luck!

      • Brandon 1:40 pm on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, my running backs were definitely the strong point. However, I had the good version of Kyle Orton at quarterback most of the year and T.O. (who I just dropped) putting up solid numbers most of the way. My starting receivers were Boldin, T.O. and Wallace, who were decent for the most part.

As for my defense, looking at the numbers between Miami and St. Louis, they aren’t all that different over the past four games or so. Last time St. Louis played the 49ers, they only scored 5 points as a defensive unit anyways. If I lose, something tells me it won’t be because of my defense 🙂

I also had Jermichael Finley to start the year at TE…

Those RBs are what did me in last week. Best of luck, BMarsh.

I think they gave it all they had against you, then let Rob walk all over them. Lame-o

Good start with a long TD by Mike Wallace. Thank god because he didn’t do squat the rest of the game!

      • Brandon 10:42 am on December 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah what was up with that?! I was expecting a 150 yard, 2 score game or something. Oh well, can’t complain too much, especially since our league gives a little bonus for breaking 100 yards and he got that fourth catch to put him right over the line

Good luck Brandon, I’m in the finals as well this week… unfortunately for you I’m rooting for huge weeks from Nicks and Jackson 😀

It’s alright, not everyone can be perfect 🙂 Just kidding…hopefully Nicks and Jackson can have just enough of a big game to help you win your championship too!

I voted Rob cuz ye has RODGERS as do I in my two playoff money leagues … I think Rodgers did it for you … right? Dude was insane today.

      • Brandon 11:26 am on December 30, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Rodgers was a large part in why I got completely dominated…plus, none of my guys did ANYTHING!!!

      How is everybody doing?
With two games to go, I have a 35 point lead and Bryant tonight. My opponent has the NO D/ST tonight and McCoy tomorrow night. Feeling pretty good here…

      • Hawgman 10:26 am on December 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Hillis (very early season FA pick-up) brought me to the dance, and Freemen (picked up last week) put up fantastic numbers!! Good thing too because Welker, McFadden, and Hillis were rather disappointing.

        • Squish 5:12 am on December 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I was in the same situation as you with Freeman carrying my money league team in a week when many elites failed to post elite numbers. I clinched the championship during MNF when White caught that TD. $140 coming my way baby!

          • Hawgman 10:28 am on December 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I now have a 24 point lead vs LeSean McCoy. I am hoping the the Philly O sticks with Vick and DeShowboat Jackson. If so, I will net a little over $200!

      And the winner is????

      • Brandon 1:01 pm on December 28, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Sadly I got smoked as my triple threat at running back failed me in the most important game. Even Josh Freeman on my bench wouldn’t have saved me from getting dominated 159 to 91. Oh well, I guess there’s always next year. Plus, at least I got second place and a small prize for that.

Depends on your league rules, but if you’re in a keeper league, this is the time to be scooping up potential prospects for next season! Maybe Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy strike your fancy? Maybe you think the Raiders bring in a better quarterback and Jacoby Ford becomes a consistent fantasy force? Whatever your thoughts, make a move on the waiver wire this week before you lose your chance!
