Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders

OAK – Kyle Boller: 7-14 for 61 yards, 3 INT (one returned for TD)
OAK – Carson Palmer: 8-21 for 116 yards, 3 INT (one returned for TD)
KC – Matt Cassel: 15-30 for 161 yards, 2 INT
Bonus: Darren McFadden sprains his foot.

WHAT A DISASTER! (unless you started the Chiefs defense)

I had to turn this game off, it hurt to watch. lol Boller was aweful, and Palmer was not much better, although I can cut him slack given the brand new team and rust. I had DHB, who actually did ok, but I sat him given the potential for this!!!

    • Corey 2:57 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yea I had McFadden starting too, I was saved this week by Foster, Ben and Wallace. Mcfadden/mathews/jamesjones/daniels/cowboys/hanson not so much. Hopefully do better next week. Here’s hoping that Andre comes back next week 🙂

Oh man Mathews is going to give me a heart attack, i just want him to be healthy, paired with A. Bradshaw I should do well. (I lost J Charles already).

        OK I need opinions!!!!!!!!!!
I need to clear room on bench I need to cut 2 players who would you cut??
(Either Fitzpatrick or Tebow) Battle, Torain,Tolbert, Branch, DHB, or Holmes

        Im keeping:
        Stafford
        Bradshaw
        Mathews
        Colston
        J Nelson
        Jets D
        Witten

        • Brandon 3:15 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’d keep Tebow, who proved that even when he has a bad statistical game, he can produce for fantasy owners. Sooo, drop Fitzpatrick and I guess Deion Branch, but it’s tough between those three receivers. I guess you could drop Battle instead of Branch if you’re deep at RB but shallow at WR.

          • Mike 3:20 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Ok, keeping Tebow. I is freakin tough to choose between those receivers, Branch and Holmes are almost dead even, but Branch does have Brady not Sanchez. I was going to drop Torain but now that Hightower is out, he COULD go big, but freakin Shanahan is never consistent.
If I have Mathews should I drop Tolbert??????

            • Corey 3:25 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

The reason I keep holmes is that he is a #1 for sanchez. Branch is more of a #3-4 behind Welker/Gronk/Hernandez. Target wise Holmes is a better keeper here. Plus with the emergence of Plax *hopefully* Holmes will not get as much attention as he’s been getting.

            • Brandon 3:25 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

While Branch has Brady…so do Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski 🙂 Santonio Holmes didn’t get a TD last week, but he’s still the top option in that passing game for the most part. Don’t drop Tolbert, especially with Mathews banged up now.

          • Corey 3:20 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I agree with Branch. I don’t think you should get rid of battle, based on the matchups coming the next few weeks for him. I’m on the fence with Tebow and Fitzy. Strength of schedule favors Tebow. But…my only issue with Tebow is that he sucked. He sucked REALLY bad for 3 1/2 quarters against a crap team ranked dead last. I give a slight edge to Tebow but I don’t like it lol.

            • Corey 3:22 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

In a way I don’t like Torain either now, because it’s going to be the same way with him and Helu going forward too. Gotta love Shanahan

          • Corey 3:23 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hightower is out for the season according to the redskins so it’s basically committee with Torain/Helu for the rest of the season. I don’t like the situation either way

            • Mike 3:28 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

See my dilemma!! lolol Its all good. I really only need Tebow to fill in for Stafford on his buy week in which Tebow matches up with Oakland. Now that you mention Branch that way Im going to drop him instead of Holmes

I would strongly suggest that you try to make a trade instead of just dropping any of these players to the waiver wire. They all hold some value, especially if you package in one of the QB’s. Does one of the teams in your league need both QB help and some WR and/or RB depth? If so, see if you can put together a 3-for-1 trade. Get a serious upgrade to one position and clear bench space at the same time. Try packaging Fitz or Tebow with two other players and see if you can get a WR1 or RB2. Maybe even try for a RB1 and bargain down from there. I hate placing players on the WW that I know will get picked up right away.

            • Brandon 4:11 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

Amen to that! However, sometimes it’s difficult to find a trade partner that doesn’t think you’re always out to rip him off completely and that you have some insider information or something 🙂

            • Adam 4:11 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

Thinking more about it…you can also get yourself out of the Washington snake pit. Torain will make great trade bait with Hightower going down. Tebow/Fitz + Torain + Branch could possibly by you LeSean McCoy.

            • Mike 4:27 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

I like the sound of that. lol

Ok so I proposed a trade for Torain/Tebow for AJ Green / Maclin……..
Its now become A. Bradshaw/ Santonio Holmes for AJ Green / Maclin……..Would you do this????

              I have :
              Stafford
              Ryan Mathews
              Tolbert
              Torain
(Have another trade for Murray that should happen giving DHB and Battle)
              Colston
              JNelson
              Tebow
              Witten
              Gaffney

              ???????????????????

            • Adam 3:51 pm on October 25, 2011 Permalink

I don’t really love it. I think you’re giving too much with Bradshaw as he is your only other safe RB with upside besides Mathews. Tolbert doesn’t have a huge role, Torain is susceptible to the Washington drama and while I’m really high on Murray, it’s only been one game. You definitely need a little more WR depth, but I wouldn’t do it at the expense of Bradshaw. Where did Branch go in your roster list?

            • Mike 4:25 pm on October 25, 2011 Permalink

he is still there. forgot to list him. Yeah the more i think about it the less enthuised I am about it. I really think Colston should be solid all year, and J Nelson is very good but I would much rather have him as my #3 then #2. I need a 11pnt avg + player at WR #1 or #2

This week was another disappointment. I am currently in second in my league, but if it weren’t for Foster I would have lost to the last place player. I was hoping for Torain and Garcon to hit it big again and then Wells hurt was injured. Romo decided he didn’t want to throw the ball, but I am in the process of picking up murray in case he wants to go to the ground again.

      My line up:
      Romo
      Steve SMith
      Pierre Garcon
      Foster
      Wells (injured)
      Torain
      J. Graham
      Hanson
      Broncos

      Bench:
      Fitzpatrick
      Ben Tate
      J. Ford
      D. Thomas
      J. Best (injured)
      janikowski
      49s

I now play the best players in the league the next couple weeks and I feel I am weak in the WR range and with the continuous injuries flying around I’m scared for my RBs too.

I guess I’m trying to ask is would it be a good idea to hold on to what I have or try to package Tate and Best (who is supposed to return) and maybe even a kicker (whom both have scored higher than most of my players in the past couple weeks) for maybe a heavy WR.

        • trade'em if you got'em 3:58 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

No one really worth mentioning. On the top of my watch list is Antonio Brown, Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon Marshall, Victor Cruz, Early Doucet, jacoby jones and it is basically downhill from there.

          • Brandon 4:03 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You have two kickers, two defenses and Jacoby Ford on your line-up while Brandon Marshall and Antonio Brown are free agents? Pick up Marshall if you want help at WR!

            • Adam 4:15 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

Absolutely agree! I would drop a defense and a kicker and grab either a RB or Antonio Brown in addition to Marshall. I understand Janikowski has been more than solid, but he’s injured and eating up points. Who knows when he’s coming back or how he’ll be affected when he does. I believe strongly that you should only have 1 DEF each week unless you own one of the top 3 defenses, and then only have 2 during the bye week.

            • james hance 5:50 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink

how many people r in ur league if marshal is availible???? 4?? 6???

I picked up second defense for the 49s BYE. But it all Sounds about right. Thanks guys!

There are 10, but I think I am the only one who tries to keep up with the up and coming F/A. This is my first year in a FF league so my Draft was a little weak, but I think I have done a good job in picking up acceptable players.

(BTW Marshall and Brown were in my draft but I dropped them early in the season)

With McFadden having a bye week to heal, is it worth picking up Michael Bush in case he doesn’t start or is limited? I’m thin at RB and stuck with Chris Johnson, to boot.

      • Joshua 7:28 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

My opinion i wouldnt pick up Bush. McFadden isn’t seriously hurt and is looking very good to play week 9 since he has a bye week to rest his “Mildly sprained foot”. And with as good as McFadden has been playing i dont see picking up Bush…to me that would be like playing Arian Foster and Ben Tate at the same time. With a strong RB like McFadden picking up his back-up doesnt seem sound to me.

    • Joshua 6:41 pm on October 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Ok this is my first year to try FF but it has consumed my life lol. I picked up Garcon because even thoug Painter has some rookie flaws i think he still looks sound for a new QB in a bad situation. Some of the WR i can trade for him are A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Victor Cruz, Marques Colston what do you think. This will be for a bench WR my starters are Welker and Miles Austin. Finally i have Brandon Pettigrew and Rob Gronkowski for TE. Tony Gonzales is free for trade, would you pick up gonzales?

Bryant is strong, and Colston would be a great addition as well. Now that he is back and healthy and Brees is on fire, he is a top WR

The Oakland Raiders have just signed TE Kevin Boss to replace the recently departed Zach Miller. Should fit in well and will be relied on pretty heavily by quarterback Jason Campbell.

Drool-worthy matchups for the stretch run

With nine weeks of data in the books on this year’s NFL team defenses, it’s now pretty clear which matchups you should absolutely love to see on your players’ schedules for the remainder of the season.

    Passing Defense

    Worst of the Worst:

Detroit Lions: They allow a whopping 263 passing yards per game, including games where they gave up 358 to Brees, 340 to Campbell, 358 to Rodgers, and 329 to Hasselbeck. And only the Titans (who I’ll get to in a minute) have allowed more passing TDs.

Kansas City Chiefs: Only ten sacks on the season, second-worst in the league, and only three interceptions, which is obviously the worst. (Interesting aside – the Redskins, who give up the fewest yards per game, are tied with the Browns for the second-fewest INTs – just four.)

          Brandon Marshall
          Kevin Smith ( rb)
Who deserves my starting roster spot this week?
          oh and calvin johnson

A lot of my sources like Sidney Rice this week so think about taking him. Kevin Smith is the obvious option to me but I like taking a chance on Rice this week. You can’t expect much from Marshall against Washington’s pass defense and they should be WAY ahead all day. CJ hasn’t shown he’s fully healed yet so I’d wait to begin starting him again.

So your real choices are Sidney Rice or Kevin Smith. The problem is that both of them have a downside. Rice won’t be getting too many looks because his team won’t need to pass and he’s got all kinds of competition at WR on his own team.. Kevin Smith gets looks but has done next to nothing with them. He has only 1 run over 20 yards all season and is averaging only 3.3 YPC. In the end I’d say take Smith if you only need 8 or 9 points (the highest projection I’ve seen for him in PPR is 16 with a low of 4) and Rice if you’d like more upside (I’ve seen PPR projections as a high as 24 points with a low of 7.8).

My personal pick is Rice in both standard and PPR.

Great post Matt. I’ve been tracking things more in my head but it’s really nice to see it all spelled out on the same page! I’ve definitely been planning to have these playoff matchups anywhere I can.

As I said a few weeks ago it was a good idea to target Hightower who was low value then. I traded for him in several leagues and now my mouth is watering over his SF, DET, STL series of matchups which have Arizona as a team ranked in the top 5 of projected playoff fantasy scoring in every standard FF position.

As it is now, for weeks 14-16 the top 5 at each position for projected (based on the average points given up by the teams on their schedule those weeks) are:
QB – Hard to be able to do anything here. All the good QBs are already taken. However, Henne may be a viable fill-in down the stretch for Ryan and Orton owner’s (ranked 32nd worst and 27th worst playoff QB schedules respectively)
      1. SD
      2. MIA
      3. STL
      4. ARI
      5. NO

RB – Watch the Jamaal Charles/Kolby Smith situation very closely. Go after Hightower if you can. I guarantee he pays off down the stretch. Also be the first to jump on Fred Taylor if he comes back.
      1. KC
      2. NE
      3. WAS
      4. ATL
      5. ARI

WR – I’m ignoring STL and MIA because their offenses suck but at this point consider trading AJ or R. Moss for VJ or Fitz for a matchup upgrade down the stretch.
      1. MIA
      2. STL
      3. SD
      4. NO
      5. ARI

TE – More or less doesn’t mean anything since they don’t have reliable options (save SF)
      1. TEN
      2. CIN
      3. SF
      4. ARI
      5. HOU

DEF – Keep these in mind especially because a lot of them are available. I’ve had defenses in the Championship game win me as many titles as any other position.
      1. NYG
      2. NE
      3. ARI
      4. BAL
      5. OAK

Anyway, just thought I’d add some stuff in. For a wider range of values go here:

Atg ButtonWith under a week to go before the Titans play the Steelers on Thursday night football, here are a few questions we’ve received over the past few days:

Haseeb asks: In my league we can start up to 2 rb’s and another as a flex. I currently have Deangelo Williams, Joseph Addai, and Chris Johnson. I also have Jonathan Stewart on the bench. Do I start Stewart over Addai or Johnson? Or do I keep him on the bench? Thanks guys!
