User Requested Player Rankings – Week 16

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against each other. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Tim Tebow or Matt Ryan for my fantasy championship????!?!#?2222

      • Brandon 9:38 am on December 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Tough one there and I have the same decision for my championship game against Matt this weekend (I also have Stafford too.) I guess it depends a lot on your league scoring rules. How has Tebow been doing in relation to Ryan these days? Ryan has been on a roll so if Tebow is still scoring better than him, it seems your league favors Tebow’s running and you should probably go with him.

J Maclin, peyton hillis, DHB, Demaryius Thomas, Kahlil Bell, Santana Moss

I have a choice b/w Maclin, DHB, Ryan Grant, Kahlil Bell, Peyton Hillis, and James Jones. Need two, and at least 1 RB.

      • Brandon 9:53 am on December 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Got them all added to the list. In terms of who to play from the group, I guess you go with Hillis and Maclin, although I don’t love their match-ups or how Maclin has played recently. Kahlil Bell and Heyward-Bey are the higher risk, higher upside guys I think though, so it’s up to how you want to play it I guess. Hope this helped and good luck!

Having a tough time picking WRs and RBs this week. I have:

WR: Dez Bryant, Santana Moss, Victor Cruz, Lance Moore, Malcolm Floyd; pick 3

RB: Rashard Mendenhall, Reggie Bush, Kevin Smith, Marshawn Lynch, Beanie Wells; pick 2

It really depends on Helu’s health going into the game. If he’s planning to start and seems fine, go with him for sure. Even if he’s at 75%, he’s a better start than Crabtree.

Bengals (vs ARI), Titans (vs JAX), Redskins (vs MIN), Seahawks (vs 49ers) in both scenarios.. thanks!

Randall Cobb is a wild card as he could see more looks if the team decides to rest some starters during the game this week. However, I still think I’d go with Thomas and Heyward-Bey, even if DHB has a tough match-up. Good luck dude!

One other I just noticed. You have CJ (vs. Jax) well above Bell (vs. GB). Supposedly Bell is the only back Chicago is starting. Does this change anything? I’ve got CJ starting, but the news about Bell is making me question the decision as they are going up against a porous GB.

Huge bind here, in my Championship Game, and I have to choose between:

Roddy White, AJ Green and Larry Fitzgerald with only 2 WR spots and a flex. I’m already starting Shonn Greene and MJD in both of my RB spots, which leaves me the loser of my WR question, along with Sproles and Kahlil Bell for my flex spot. Who would you trust to deliver me greatness this week????

Julio is a great play Thursday night but i risk him sometimes only catching two or three. He is a beast though.
garcon is iffy but he’s been the guy i have been playing. The past two games orlovski has targeted him 12 times so i want to play him.Crabtree has been consistent but they paly pittsburg. Manningham i just picked him up but i don’t want my playoffs to come down to eli having to throw tds to nicks and manningham, what do you think

      – Felix Jones or AP (if he plays, I am thinking with the match-up and all that….)

      • Brandon 4:06 pm on December 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Tebow is like Cam Newton-lite. While Tebow has a great match-up and Newton’s is tough, I think you stick with the man who has carried you to the playoffs and is much more likely to have a 3+ touchdown game. As for your receivers, I like Nicks over Harvin, but it’d be nice to start them both! At running back, again, would be nice to play them both, but as long as Peterson plays (and it seems he’s ready to roll) you go with him. He has a decent match-up anyways.

I’ve got Andre Johnson and Forte on my squad, and am somehow one game away from playing for the championship. I’ve still got Spiller, Wells, and Khalil Bell on the team, and L Rob, Steve J, and Nicks at WR. There are some decent, not great, FA grabs available, so the question is:

      1. Are people dropping Forte and Johnson based on today’s news? (neither practiced)
      2. If so, assuming no Grant / Barber / Jones on the waiver wire (best PA is S Moss or D Thomas) if I don’t really need WR help, should I consider holding?

      Thanks guys!

      • Brandon 12:09 pm on December 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I dropped Forte in a league, but if you don’t need to drop them for roster space, just hang on to them in case something crazy happens I guess. As for free agents, no real reason to pick up Moss or Thomas unless you have a free roster spot. Demaryius Thomas will be pretty interesting this week against the Patriots, that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t start him over your guys. Good luck!

      • Brandon 12:10 pm on December 16, 2011 Permalink | Reply

One thing to consider as you advance through the playoffs is that there are less people targeting free agents, so unless you need them immediately or you think your opponent will use them, no big deal in letting them chill πŸ™‚

I do think that Decker could do well, there is no doubt that Brady will score alot in Denver, so Im thinking Tebow will be forced to throw. So if it doesnt miss, or go out, its 50/50 between him and Thomas.

So it is now week two of the playoffs and I’m starting to second guess myself. Here is my line up:

      Romo
      Cruz
      Antonio Brown
      Foster
      Lynch
      Graham
      Flex (Reggie Bush)
      Janikowski
      49s

      Bench:
      Frank Gore
      Beanie Wells
      Marion Barber
      Julio Jones
      Jacoby Ford
      Damian Williams
      Ryan Fitzpatrick

Well I guess my issue is who I should start in Flex. Bush has been putting up yards and touchdowns and Wells has been very inconsistent. However, with Matt Moore possibly out Bush may not have the same game that he normally would. On the other hand Wells’ last two games was Dallas and 49s so we didn’t expect much from him. But if he is going to explode I think it will be this week against Cleveland.

      Any opinion would be welcomed.

      Thanks

Matt Moore is practicing apparently so I think he’ll be out there this weekend. I actually have Reggie ranked higher than Wells and Lynch this week, so definitely keep him. As for Lynch, I guess you have to keep him in there since he’s been scoring touchdowns like they’re going out of style. Wells is a good match-up, but he’s been inconsistent. Good luck!

For WR’s I have Steve Smith, Santana Moss and James Jones (I have Miles Austin but he already played.) User Requested Player Rankings – Week 14

LeSean McCoy, Ryan Mathews, Marion Barber, Jonathan Stewart.

I’m only worried about McCoy because Miami’s D has only given up 3 TDs to RBs and rank 31st in PTs allowed to RBs, he should be a must start but i’m kind of iffy about it.

Ranked them. Definitely start McCoy still. The Eagles running game is different enough from most of the league in that they run a lot out of passing formations and with Michael Vick behind center, it should distract the defense enough to open some holes for McCoy

What’s not right is typing entire comments in all caps πŸ™‚ What you’re describing is also pretty sketchy and in reality shouldn’t be allowed. Can’t the league vote on trades? You could simply veto the trade. Another thing that your league commissioner could do is lock the rosters of teams that aren’t in the playoffs, so they can’t trade/drop/add players to screw up other teams.

    • S. 3:07 pm on December 8, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hey Brandon… need a second opinion, and I kind of feel like a crazy person for asking. But I have Peyton Hillis starting. He’s been sitting on my bench almost all season long. This is the last week of regular play, and I’m out of playoff contention, so I want to play him so that I don’t feel like he was a complete waste of an early draft pick (although nothing will change that… lol). But then I also have Ricky Williams, who I’m thinking might get a decent amount of carries, as he did last week, if the ravens are blowing out the colts. I feel like either way I’m rolling the dice, but I’m at the point where I have no reason not to take dumb risks since there’s no way I can make the playoffs. Who would you start?

Also – I see hillis is ranked several spots above Ricky Williams, but given my situation and that Hillis was limited in practice today with his new hip problem, and that their game is tonight, I want to see if maybe you’d have a newer opinion or still feel the same.

Sorry for the way-too-long reply. Thanks!

      • Brandon 12:19 pm on December 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Looks like I missed out on this one in time, but hopefully you went with Ricky Williams since Hillis didn’t do too much. Williams is the risky play, but he could pay off if the Ravens can take a big lead. Anyways, there’s always next year!

      • Brandon 12:14 pm on December 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

St. Louis won’t kick off too much, but they should be punting a lot, but obviously there’s less chance of big yardage there. do your defenses get more points from regular defensive stuff or from kick returns?

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 13

OP Flex Position: Rashard Mendenhall or Vince Young?

      • Brandon 2:37 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Does the position generally favor QB’s over running backs or is it pretty equal? I’m thinking Vince Young has a much better chance to score.

        • Aaron 2:52 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

It’s ESPN standard scoring with incremental bonuses:
          QB: 300-399 yds passing +1, >400 yds +2
          RB: 100-199 YDS +2, >200 yds +3
          V. Young is appealing because he rushes, but Seattle’s D can be tough. And Mendenhall doesn’t seem to be used much later (rarely >20 caries), but he’s their goal-line guy. And he’s up against Cincy’s D which is also tough. What do you think?

          • S. 2:56 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Go with whatever Brandon says over me, but feel free to take this as a second opinion: With how strong Seattle’s rush D is, combined with the issue of McCoy’s toe, I think that V. Young will continue to air out the pass plays as he has in his starts thus far. I would personally go with Young.

Also, Cincy is starting to weaken in the secondary due to injuries, but are still relatively strong against the run. I would anticipate a lot of passing from Ben to his corps of receivers, but who knows. Good luck!

            • S. 10:34 am on December 2, 2011 Permalink

Miami has stepped it up the last few weeks. Prior to playing Dallas, they didn’t allow their opponent a single touchdown for three games in a row, and one of those games was against Buffalo, which means they held FJax out of the end zone. Also, last week, they kept DeMarco Murray somewhat contained too – he didn’t score any TDs. I’m not saying that Miami has an amazing D or anything, but I wouldn’t write them off either.

Its our first week of playoffs in a PPR league. I have the most points in our league but have lost 3 games by a combined 6 points, so I’m playing the #2 team in the league.

I’m starting Brees, Foster, Jennings, Jimmy Graham, and the 49ers D for sure.
I have 1 more slot for a RB, 1 more slot for a WR, and 1 RB/WR flex spot to fill, with Green-Ellis, Matthews, Kevin Smith (Questionable), Laurent Robinson, Nate Burleson, Miles Austin(Questionable), and Mario Manningham (Questionable).

I’m thinking Matthews and Robinson as of now, then a toss up between Green-Ellis and Burleson.

So I made the playoffs and am in 3rd. #2 is playing #1 this week and I need #2 to lose for me to jump into 2nd. It is very doubtful that this will happen since #1 player’s team has weakened quite a bit with the loss of Fred Jackson. So since I am probably 90% not going to make 2nd for the bye in playoff, I am going to throw this game so that I play a weaker opponent in the playoffs and am basically guaranteed 2nd in the league, but could grab 1st if all goes well in week 16.

Am I going to FF hell for this?

It’s not a bad strategy by any means. I was partially just being a smarta$$ in response to the “am I going to FF hell for this” part – but I just think it’s in good nature to do your best to win week-in/week-out regardless of the odds/projections/matchups/etc. HOWEVER… different religions believe that you go to “hell” for various reasons, so who’s to say which one(s) are right or wrong? πŸ˜‰

        • crazy 5:43 pm on December 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

HA yeah I debated for a while whether it was bad karma. But the funny thing is that even with me worst players I don’t think I will lose.

So I can play my top guys and beat her by 60 points or play my worst and prob still beat her by 10.

      • Brandon 3:40 pm on December 2, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Seems a bit crazy to me, as you’ll have to beat the top team to win the league eventually anyways. There’s a lot of luck in fantasy football and truly anything can happen each week if the two teams are competitive. Up to you though, since you already made the playoffs. It’s your team, so I really see no issue with managing it how you like. Good NFL teams bench their good players once they clinch the playoffs, so why not you πŸ™‚

Hi, who you think might be the best this weekend for my last spot (Fitz+RoddyW are my other 2WRs), in a WR/TEcombined, PPR league? Gates or Mike Williams (Bucs)
      What I see:
      – Gates (@Jacksonville) is normally constant for 5 catch and 1TD, in an offense that need to get him more involve if they want to win. However, Jaguars are not bad defensively and it could be a low scoring game…
      – M.Williams (vs Carolina) was more used in the last weeks, but he will probably face a lot of Chris Gamble (right?) and the Bucs would probably run a lot on the Panthers because they are not good in that area…

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 12

Who should I start for my RB and Flex. I am a league with 3WR 1 RB and one RB/WR

      RB’S:

      AP – Hurt
Reggie Bush – Been performing well, but playing Dallas
Mike Tolbert – Did not get a lot of carries last game, but Matthews fumbled so coach may be upset and they are playing Denver, so it should be a running game.
Toby G – AP is out so he is a starter, but they are playing the Falcons who are good aganist the run

      WR’s:

Dwayne Bowe – Hurt qb, but targeted a lot. Playing Pitt who does not give up much to receivers
AJ Green – He will play
Julio Jones – Don’t know if he will play
Brandon Marshall – Moore has been on fire, but only had one catch last game
Damian Williams – QB hurt, but was still targeted in the end zone 4 times and is playing Tampa

I am in a PPR league:

Running backs: Murray, M. Bush, K. Smith, J. McKnight

Which two should I roll out for week 12?
Also, I’m planning to target Percy Harvin with Aaron Hernandez and/or Larent Robinson in a trade. I think Harvin will help down the stretch and Hernandez is in a log-jam in New England. Thoughts?

      • Brandon 2:06 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Who would you start at tight end if Hernandez was gone? Robinson for Harvin would be solid actually, as Harvin is doing well lately and once Miles Austin is back, Robinson loses a lot of value. Got the guys ranked as well.

        • Adam 2:13 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You are not required to use a tight end at all in my league at all…

          1 QB
          2 RB
          3 Wide Receiver/Tight End
          1 K
          1 Def

At any rate, I’ll have Jimmy Graham, Hakeem Nicks, Brandon Lloyd, and AJ Green to use until the end of the season. My trade deadline is Friday and I really want Harvin as I think with Petersen going down his value goes up a lot. Besides, Robinson value will only decrease when Austin comes back, and Brady evidently favors Gronkowski in the passing game.

Check the rankings πŸ™‚ As for the trade, I wouldn’t give up both Hernandez AND Robinson for Harvin, if that’s what you’re implying. Peterson won’t be out forever and when he’s back, Harvin loses value. I feel like you could get a better receiver than Harvin for those two, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully you didn’t listen to me and start Kevin Smith! I’m sure his injury (and the fact that the Lions had to throw the ball a lot) didn’t help a lot of people out there. If you still are deciding between McGahee and Tolbert, I think at this point I may have to swap them around and recommend McGahee. It’s really close, but he’s the starter while Tolbert still plays second fiddle to Ryan Mathews…at least until he fumbles. Good luck however you go!

Who to use for rb/wr and flex position? Laurent Robinson, Aaron Hernandez, Ben Tate, Antonio Brown, Roy Helu, Jackie Battle, AJ Green, or Steve Johnson. Usually would use Green and S. Johnson but they are all under questionable and S. Johnson has been doing bad lately.

      Rest of the Line Up:
      QB Stafford

Do I start ryan grant or Marion barber? I also have montario and Felix. I need to pick the 1 out of those 4 with the most upside. It’s a ppr league. Also, do I start packers d or bengals d. Or do I pick up Seattle d against Washington and roll with that?

Should I start Matt Moore or Andy Dalton??

      • Neil 11:11 pm on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

and please add Antonio Brown, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, DeSean Jackson, Torrey Smith. And do you think AJ Green will be a go this week?

How is he supposed to know any better than you if AJ Green is a go this week? Just keep checking his status updates… Jeez… People these days can’t change their own diapers.

          • Neil 7:49 am on November 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I was simply asking what he thinks about Greene’s chances, only because my other WRs are injured and I have to make a decision between taking a chance on Green or going with Torrey Smith (who plays tonight).

      • Danny 1:45 am on November 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

And as much as I think Matt Moore is a stud more than Dalton, go with the matchup, and go with Andy Dalton, with or without Green because he clearly proved last week he can pass to other WR as well.

Do you think I should play the Jets defense over Oakland now that Fred Jackson is out?

      • Brandon 8:57 am on November 25, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I guess you just have to weigh the Bills passing game vs. the Bears running game. With Cutler and Fred Jackson out, neither team will have a lot going in those areas. I like both of them and it’s really a coin flip as to who is better. I generally favor the defense playing the new QB though. Hope this helps!

Who should I start for WR’s. Andre Johnson, Dez Bryant, AJ Green, Laurent Robinson?

      • Corey 12:11 pm on November 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Andre, Dez and Robinson. Greene is still not 100% plus he’s up against Joe Haden this week.

What about TE. Would you start Jermaine Gresham or Kevin Boss?

          • Corey 3:07 pm on November 24, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Gresham, Green will have the coverage and I see Simpson and Gresham getting most of the looks.

Pick 2: Tarvaris Jackson (vs. WAS), Carson Palmer (vs. CHI), or Sam Bradford (vs. ARI)

      • Mike 11:45 am on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Neil, I’d go Palmer, Jackson, Bradford in that order. Palmer has been playing well of late and is the better QB overall. Jackson is not a bad option but feeding Lynch a lot lately and Bradford has been non-existent this year, even with the emergence of Lloyd. I had to use Bradford last week as a Brees fill in, and he got me all of 8 fantasy points. Maybe I’m still just a little bitter towards him…LOL. Good luck.

That’s what I was leaning toward as well. Thanks MIke! What do you for a WR3 (already had Jordy Nelson go (ugh) and Laurent Robinson πŸ˜€ go). It’s between Hakeem Nicks (@NO) and Antonio Brown (@KC). Leaning toward Brown, but not quite sure…

          • Mike 7:19 pm on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Neil, I think both will have good weeks, however I like Nicks a little more considering this will have to be a shoot out in order for the Giants to have a chance. Steelers could get up early and start running with Mendenhall, limiting Brown. I’d go Nicks if I were you. Good luck!

Hi! I need to pick one WR/TE in a PPR league. I already have Fitz+RoddyW for the 2 other spots
Between: Mario Manningham, Antonio Gates, Antonio Brown

      • Mike 11:46 am on November 26, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Chuck, I’d go with Gates, Brown, Manningham in that order. Gates and Brown are very close. I like Gates slightly more as he always has a chance for a TD and Bailey will be on V Jax most of the game. Brown is also a good option this week against KC, but Wallace still #1 WR and if Pitt gets up early, they may run more often. Manningham is decent option against NO, it what could turn out to be a shoot out, however Eli still targets Cruz and Nicks more often, and Ballard may even get involved here a little also. Hope this helps.

Trade Question. I was offered Mendenhall and D Jax for Welker. Its .5 PPR league. My only running backs are Rice and Reggie Bush. My WRs are V Jax, Welker, Julio Jones and Santana Moss. Should I take this trade? I’m not sold on either Mendenhall or D Jax (issues of late) but Mendenhall does have Cleveland and St. Louis left on his schedule and you never know with D Jax, he could go off, however he does have toougher matchups down the stretch. If I do the trade, V Jax becomes my #1 WR, and I can slide 2 of these 4 into my flex and WR2 slot: D Jax, Julio Jones, Moss or Reggie. Thoughts anyone?

Eagles WR question: Riley Cooper or Jason Avant? VY seemed to like throwing it to Cooper. And with Maclin out again… How you say?
