Ryan Grant done for the season

Wow. Jay Glazer is reporting on Twitter that Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant will go on the season-ending IR due to leg injuries. I hope his owners hand-cuffed him with Brandon Jackson (I’m sure you didn’t!)

In other news, pick up Brandon Jackson ASAP if you need running back help!

so i had Ryan. i have the opportunity to pick up Jackson or Forte. who do i go after?

      • Brandon 4:20 pm on September 14, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Interesting that Forte was a free agent in your league. Who are your other RB’s and bench players that you can’t pick up both? At this point I’d go with Forte, since you’ve already seen how involved he is in the passing game and how good of numbers he can put up because of it.

        • Kyle 4:43 pm on September 14, 2010 Permalink | Reply

i’m actually looking to pick them both up on waivers, but i’m assuming someon else in my league has their eye on one or both. my other RB’s are Marion Barber, Jonathan Stewart, Beanie Wells, and Thomas Jones. Right now i’ve dropped Ryan, and look to drop Jones to pick up both Forte and Jackson. Fingers crossed for both, but i’m thinking Forte should be my number 1 shoice out of the two due to GB maybe leaning more toward passing the ball with Ryan out.

Hits & Misses – Week 9: Baseball is finally over!

Now that baseball is finally over, we can focus on the sport that should have a spotlight at this point in the year…football. Before we get to the players though, remember to enter in our contest to win a $50 NFL.com gift card simply by predicting the top fantasy quarterback of the week (my QB “hits” might help you out!) Also, if you’re feeling generous, head over to the Fantasy Football Librarian’s site and vote for FFGeekBlog.com in her first annual Readers’ Choice Poll.

Anyways, that’s enough self-promotion…here are our “Hits” and “Misses” for week nine, listing players you want to make sure are in your lineup, as well as those you might consider shelving for the week (or at least lowering your expectations!) (More …)

Okay, I need some help this week with my WRs and RB positions. I need 3 WRs and 2 RBs and a flex…I have Colston, Smith(nyg), Knox, Collie, and I just picked up Malcolm FLoyd in case he starts to shine…for RBs I have Forte, Portis, R. Williams, Buckhalter and I just picked up Moats, maybe for later…any ideas would be appreciated. If I don’t win this week it isn’t looking good for my team!!! Thanks a bunch

      • Brandon 2:37 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

At receiver, I’d go with Colston, Smith and Collie, then use Forte, Portis and Williams as your running backs and flex positions. Good luck!

    • sal 3:29 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Hey guys – I’m in 2nd place, but I am hurting at RB – only reliable option I have is DeAngelo Williams. Who should I start (in a non-PPR league) out of: Willie Parker, Ryan Moats, Maurice Morris (I also have Larry Johnson, but he isn’t an option this week or for the rest of the season, lol)

      • Brandon 3:34 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’m not a fan of your options there, but if I had to pick one I guess I would go with Ryan Moats and hope he gets a bunch of carries again this weekend. If Slaton fumbles early, you’re golden…otherwise, cross your fingers!

        • Amir 5:59 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

haha how many teams are in your league to have you be in 2nd place with those kind of RB options? — anyone on waivers like a Justin Fargas? that is a scary group to pick from

      • sal 10:37 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

i felt the temptation of trading LT and Hightower for DeAngelo and LJ – worst trade I’ve ever made – 12 team league – these guys are hawks on the waiver – that’s the best I can do. Couldn’t even get Jamaal Charles, lol

Hey guys – I’m in a PPR league and I need help making a tough call: do I start Steve Smith (NYG) or Hightower?

      • Brandon 4:58 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I guess at this point it’s safest to go with Hightower, as he racks up receptions, receiving yards, gets a few rushing yards and is used for short yardage situations. He’s an anomaly, but he gets it done!

my other option is knowshon moreno

      • Amir 5:58 pm on November 5, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Slaton scares me you might want to wait until closer to game time — they should name a starter by Sunday

      • Brandon 9:46 am on November 6, 2009 Permalink | Reply

You’ll probably want to go with Slaton, but as Amir points out, the closer you can wait till game time to make this decision, the better.. Moreno is still splitting carries with Buckhalter AND they’re playing the Steelers this weekend. I think Slaton will get every chance in the world to play as long as he doesn’t fumble again, so if he keeps the ball safe, he should be in there.

Brandon- you are offered Forte for Jacobs (with Portis + Turner as your other RBs in a non-PPR league) what do you do?

Some discussion was had but it quickly went away from my context

      • Brandon 9:52 am on November 6, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I think I would do this trade at this point. I like Jacobs’ upside more than Forte down the stretch, as he’s been running better than Ahmad Bradshaw lately and I think the team is going to focus a bit more on the running game after their three game skid and inconsistency in the passing game.

I like Ahmad Bradshaw against the Chargers, who haven’t been great at stopping the run. Bradshaw seems to have injury worries every week, but he still manages to play and should have a decent game this week. Good luck!

      • Brandon 5:09 pm on November 6, 2009 Permalink | Reply

DeAngelo Williams and Pierre Thomas, then I think you have to go with Houshmandzadeh against the Lions, as Manningham has injury/dropped passes/inconsistency issues. Collie is a close second, but I just like Housh’s matchup more.

Hits & Misses – Week 8: Happy Halloween!

matt's bills pumpkinWith Halloween right around the corner, hopefully your fantasy teams are in for more treats than tricks! While there is no game on Sunday night due to the World Series, I’m excited for the treat we’ll all get on Monday night when we actually get to see a good football game (Falcons @ Saints), instead of what we were forced to witness last week. Make sure to set your rosters early on Saturday so that you don’t forget while you’re nursing that post-party hangover on Sunday!

Anyways, here are our “Hits” and “Misses” for week eight, listing players you want to make sure are in your lineup, as well as those you might consider shelving for the week (or at least lowering your expectations!) We start it off with a few big name running backs that you may be concerned about… (More …)

Donald Lee will get more looks as JerMichael Finley is out (or at least banged up) this week. As for Nicks vs Jennings, I’d go with Jennings, as I think the Vikings/Packers game will include a ton of passing.

      Ricky Williams
      Kevin Smith
      Reggie Bush

Love the site! I’ve got 2 WR and 2 RB spots, and 1 flex. I’m planning on starting Donald Driver, Mike Sims-Walker, Joseph Addai, Kevin Smith, and Miles Austin in the flex. Others on my roster are Andre Johnson, Derrick Mason, Correll Buckhalter, and Shonn Greene. Kevin Smith hasn’t been doing much lately, but I like his matchup against the Rams. I also don’t much like the matchups of the players I plan on benching. What do you think? Since my WR core is pretty deep, should I trade for an elite RB? Thanks in advance!

      • Brandon 11:59 am on October 30, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that is a deep receiver corps you have there. Although I have Andre Johnson as a “miss” this week, I would think it’d be hard to bench him ever. If you can, try to watch the ESPN pregame show on Sunday to see Johnson’s status, because if he’s close to 100%, he’s probably a better play than Donald Driver. By all means though, think about trading some of those receivers before your league’s trade deadline (if you have one) or before they start getting hurt and lose value.

Hey Brandon, I’m wondering if you would start Jerricho Cotchery vs. Miami or Hakeem Nicks vs. Philly. Jerricho, as you know, has been nursing a hamstring injury, but has apparently looked sharp in practice this week. Miami is starting 2 rookie corners. Hakeem is going against a much tougher secondary & he is the tertiary option for Eli. Weather is forecasted to be inclement in both Philly & New York. What do you think?

      • Brandon 3:49 pm on October 30, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’d still go with Hakeem Nicks. Mario Manningham is hurt and might not even play this weekend, meaning Nicks will start alongside Steve Smith and get tons of looks. Eli is much better than Mark Sanchez and can over come a little weather and a tougher defense.

It depends on how deep you are at RB for Ward. If you have 3 or 4 other solid RB’s, feel free to drop him for Bryant or Nicks. As for Garcon, I’d give him another week or so before making any moves, but it might turn out that Bryant and Nicks are also better plays at WR. Hope everything works out!

I am concerned about McGahee not getting enough plays, like last week… my league is a 2RB 2WR 1RB/WR with only 4 bench spots:

      QB Rodgers
      RB MJD
      RB McGahee
      RB/WR Bowe
      WR Steve Smith (NYG)
      WR Randy Moss
      TE Daniels
      K Gostkowski
      D/ST Jets

Bench: Addai, Brown (Byes), Buckhalter (inj), Orton (picked up to cover Rodgers last week)

Should I drop Orton right away for someone? Which of my starters should be replaced?

      • Brandon 9:18 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I’d stick with what you have there unless there’s some pretty solid running backs on free agency/waivers. Orton has become a very startable quarterback and you may play him over Rodgers depending on the match-up.

      • Brandon 9:13 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Hasselbeck has a decent match-up with the Cardinals this week, but I just don’t see him putting up the numbers he did last week twice in a row. Also, T.O. will have Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on him all afternoon, so he’s not a strong play. I like Matt Ryan and Percy Harvin this week.

      • Brandon 9:45 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

The more I think about the Ryan vs Hasselbeck question, the more I’m leaning towards Hasselbeck. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either one, but I’m officially changing my opinion to recommending Matt Hasselbeck over Matt Ryan.

Hey guys, thanks for everything you put into the site. It’s great! Need to pick 2 out of Rice, Grant, and Portis. I’m tempted to start Grant and Portis simply due to match-ups, but Rice has been so dependable this year, I’m having a hard time benching him. Any thoughts?

      • Brandon 9:10 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I like Ray Rice’s potential for the rest of the year, but I have a hard time recommending you bench Grant and Portis, who play the 7th and 8th worst defenses against the run this year. Give Rice the week off and hope the other guys come through for you.

Hey guy, i have Chris Cooley and Jermichael FInley, who should be my guy this week considering what Cooley did last week and Finley’s matchup this week?

      • Brandon 9:08 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Both guys have great match-ups and I heard rumors that Cooley was used more for blocking last week than usual. If you’re a gambling man, go with Finley and hope he has another huge game, but Cooley’s still the safer play if you’re satisfied with 6-10 points or something.

Do you think Sims-Walker vs Rams will outperform Steve Smith (NYG) vs NO this weekend?

      • Brandon 9:06 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I believe he will, but not by a whole lot. Sims-Walker will be playing his heart out after missing last weeks game due to a curfew violation. You can’t start both of them?

Great advice guys! I’m undefeated and I want to keep it like that. I got a close matchup, so it all comes down to choose from K. Winslow or H. Miller? Who do you think will put the numbers??? Who should I keep for the rest of the season?

      • Brandon 9:04 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I like Kellen Winslow this week and think he has more upside over the course of the season. Miller doesn’t make a bad backup though if you have a roster spot to spare.

Because of my horrible record thus far, I have been able to pick up great RBs Rashard Mendenhall and Cedric Benson, I also drafted Ryan Grant and Michael Turner. I’m strong at RB, solid at QB but relatively weak at WR. Roddy White is my only WR1 and all of the others are maybe WR3 at best. I’m looking to trade one of my RBs for a WR1 or a high WR2 (if necessary). Which of my 4 RBs should I try to shop around? I’m thinking Ryan Grant. He always gives decent numbers but after looking at his schedule, his seems to be overall tougher than the others? Please let me know what you think, thanks.

      • Brandon 9:00 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

You might want to shop Mendenhall, who’s value is pretty high at this point. With Willie Parker returning, they will undoubtedly split carries (not sure on the percentage at this point, but it’ll be some sort of time share.) I see Benson as another sell-high candidate, as I don’t see him getting any better than he is playing right now. The problem with Ryan Grant is that people will look at his numbers and not give him the value he deserves, meaning you won’t get that great of WR offers. Hope this helps!

Hey Fellas. Need your help. I’m in a 10 team money league. I’m set at QB, RB, and TE, but I’m not good at all when it comes to WR. Last week, I started Breaston, Sims Walker (Ouch), Bryant, and Mossaquoi (a bigger OUCH). In this league, it’s safe to say that I’m stuck with what I have. I’ve tried to shop Lynch, Gore, LT, Mgahee, and Ronnie – no one will buy because we start 4 WRs so they are clinging to what they have. Here’s my question. If I’m stuck with the following WR core – who are my best bets to hold on to, and who should I let go? I currently need to pickup a Kicker and DL for week 6 and have no slots to do so.

      Antonio Bryant
      Sims-Walker
      Breaston
      Mossquoi
      Maclin
      Nicks
      Devery Henderson
      Lance Moore
      Earl Bennett

      Thanks Fellas,
      Eric

      • Brandon 8:56 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

If you need to drop a couple receivers, I’d start with your bottom two guys there…Bennett and Moore. I think Devery Henderson has overtaken Moore as the number two receiver in New Orleans this season and the Bears receivers haven’t been consistent enough this year to warrant starting in a fantasy league.

If you wanted my opinion on who to start this week, I’d go with Sims-Walker, Maclin, Nicks and Bryant, although Breaston could be decent if you wanted the 8-9 point safe route instead of the Maclin 2 or 20 point route.

    • Brian 8:03 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

RB dilema, who to start (pick 2):

Ray Rice (been getting better and better but goes against the Vikes this week)
Knowshon Moreno (keep waiting for him to explode – against the Chargers)
Ryan Grant (been a big let down so far – but against the Lions this week should help)
Kevin Smith (have a hard time starting this guy on a horrible team, against the Pack this week)

I think I am leaning towards two of the top 3 but I can’t make up my mind. I have a personal bias to Rice as I am a Rutgers guy but not sure if he has the best matchup this week.

      Thanks for your help.

      • Brandon 8:52 am on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Unfortunately I’d sit your Rutgers guy this week. Moreno plays the worst run defense in the NFL this week and Grant has a solid match-up with the Lions. I’m afraid this week that Willis McGahee might get a lot of carries for the Ravens (since the team has barely used him the past two weeks and the coach has said he’s still a part of the gameplan), which will cut into Rice’s workload…which was going to be hard enough anyways against the Vikings.

      Cutler or Garrard this week?

      • Josh from RI 1:35 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

        Hi Reggie,

I personally love Garrard, especially matching up against St. Louis. Forget about his performance last week. He’ll have Sims-Walker (barring another late night social engagement) and a completely forgettable Rams D.

      • Brandon 2:30 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I agree with Josh from RI…go with Garrard.

      • Josh from RI 1:31 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

        Hi Mark,

I had the same problem with the Saints D. In fact, I own both the Saints AND Giants D and have benched them in favor of Jacksonville being at home against St. Louis.

If you still can pick up Jacksonville off of waivers, you’ll probably be better off. The Saints have a very low projection being such a though matchup even with Eli hobbling around in practice.

      • Brandon 2:29 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I agree with Josh from RI if Jacksonville is available, but to answer your question, I think they’re going to let up three or four touchdowns to a pretty high powered Giants offense.

I ended up trading britt for Garcon purely for his wk7 matchup (as sims-walker, megatron and b marshall have bye for me that week). I will keep simswalker this week but after this week do you think if I have the oppurtunity to trade Sims-walker for santonio holmes I should do it??? Also if megatron is out this week who should I grab off the waiver. Some names available ATM are caldwell, royal, massaquoi, muhammad (CAR).

Also my starting backs are always Jacobs/Burner. What is with the bad omen around Jacobs, do I keep him starting? (Sproles + Bradshaw are on my bench) THANKS!

      • Brandon 2:26 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I wouldn’t trade Sims-Walker for Santonio Holmes, as I think Sims-Walker will be more consistent (when he’s not missing curfew!) than Holmes for the rest of the year. As for your receivers, I’d grab Massaquoi if you have a roster spot to spare, but he’ll be a gamble (was two weeks ago the norm? Or last week?) For your running back, I’m almost leaning towards recommending you start Bradshaw over Jacobs, as he seems to do more with his carries. Keep Jacobs in there this week and hope he can find the endzone.

      Donald Driver
      Roddy White
      Steve Smith (NYG)
      Mario Manningham
      Jeremy Maclin

      Also, Brady or Hasselbeck?

      • Brandon 2:22 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Go with Roddy White and Steve Smith. At quarterback, I like Tom Brady a bit more than Hasselbeck, but they’re both great plays and both made my “Hits” list this week.

Hi guys! I have a WR quandary:

Pick 2 to start: (2 WR slots, 14 team league, no Flex)

      Wes Welker
      Mike Sims-Walker
      Donald Driver

BTW: I have Garrard starting since Peyton is on a bye.

      Thanks again!

      • Brandon 2:08 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I like Welker against a terrible Titans pass defense and Sims-Walker, who (along with the rest of the Jaguars) will be out to prove something after last week’s embarrassment.

Hey guys, love the site, thanks for all the work!

I have B. Jacobs, L. Washington, W. Parker and MJD. I’m starting MJD for sure, but am torn about B. Jacobs (rough start to the season, tough match-up against the Saints). Who should I start as my RB2?
      Many thanks!

      • Brandon 4:37 pm on October 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Considering your options, I’d stick with Brandon Jacobs. I’m not sure what kind of carries Parker will get with Mendenhall running so well these days and Washington still hasn’t proven to be a fantasy-worthy starter quite yet.

Hits & Misses – Week 4: Cutler to the Rescue!

Here are our “Hits” and “Misses” for week four, listing players you want to make sure are in your lineup, as well as those you might consider shelving for the week (or at least lowering your expectations!) This week I didn’t even have to worry about skipping the most obvious choices, as most of the top ranked players have some pretty tough match-ups (Brees/Colston vs Jets, MJD vs Titans, Brady vs Ravens, Purple Jesus vs Packers, etc), so here is your unfiltered hits and misses for the week, starting with the Savior of Chicago… (More …)

        • Brandon 10:25 am on October 3, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Go with Bradshaw, who should put up some decent numbers against the Chiefs. T-Jones is too risky at this point, as you’re basically just hoping he can get a goalline carry to get you some points.

How do you feel about Indy receivers Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon and Giants receivers Steve Smith and Mario Manningham. Both are facing what looks like weak defenses and should fare well. Would you pick these over Hester, Santana Moss and Sims-Walker as you recommended?

      • Brandon 3:49 pm on October 1, 2009 Permalink | Reply

First of all, I’m having trouble thinking of any situation where I would recommend benching a healthy Reggie Wayne. As for Garcon and the two Giants receivers, I like them (plus my “hits”) in this order:

        1) Steve Smith
        2) Santana Moss
        3) Devin Hester
        4) Mike Sims-Walker
        5) Mario Manningham
        6) Pierre Garcon

        • Brian 3:52 pm on October 1, 2009 Permalink | Reply

The league i’m in has only two receivers to chose. So I guess Wayne & Smith would get the start.

        • Brandon 4:19 pm on October 1, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Yeah I’d go with those two. While Moss, Hester and Sims-Walker have good match-ups, they aren’t as consistent as Smith has been this year, as he’s obviously established himself as Eli’s go-to guy.

My starting RBs this week are Benson and Coffee. They both going up against a week defenses of the Browns and Rams respectively. I would have gone with Portis had he not been hurt – he could have gone for close to 150 with that Bucs defense.

        • Brandon 11:35 am on October 2, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Portis might end up playing, but I’d stick with Benson and Coffee, who also have great match-ups.

Ray Rice vs NE McFadden vs Houston who’s been horrible agianst the run, or Portis who has been hurting vs the Bucs?

      • Brandon 11:35 am on October 2, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Make sure to check Portis’ status on Sunday, but if he plays, he’s got a much better matchup then Ray Rice. If Portis is held out though, then it makes your decision pretty easy!

Whoa, do NOT drop Pierre Thomas! As for the others, Jackson probably has a little less value than Bradshaw in the long run, but both of them have more value then Glen Coffee once Frank Gore returns to action. If possible, you could drop Fred Jackson now, then when Gore comes back you pick him back up. Good luck!
