User Requested Player Rankings – Week 6

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against eachother. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Def – Raiders, Redskins, or Bills (Have the Redskins, but can waiver the other 2)
TE – Scott Chandler, Fred Davis, or Shiancoe (again, have Scott, but can waiver the other 2)

Just added them. Got McCoy just above Freeman this week. Both have similar upside from week to week so it’s probably personal preference who you go with. I don’t see either really lighting it up at any point this year.

Hey, i’m looking to get Phillip Rivers from a guy that has him sittin on his bench and is 1-4 in our league. I’m currently 4-1 and was wondering what I should offer to try and grab him. My team is Schaub, Mark Sanchez…..Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Dez Bryant, Lance Moore, Heyward-Bey….. Ray Rice, Ahmad Bradshaw, Ryan Mathews, Michael Bush…. He has Mike Tolbert so he may want Mathews. Let me know what you think. Thank you!

      • Brandon 2:38 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You could give him Ahmad Bradshaw or Dez Bryant or something. Or maybe package Schaub with Heyward-Bey or Michael Bush or something? I wouldn’t get rid of Ryan Mathews though. He should continue to have a great year as long as he stays healthy.

        • MR 5:38 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Thank you! I agree, I don’t want to give up Mathews. With the way Rivers has been playing do you think he’s even that much of an upgrade from Schaub? He actually has more fantasy points then Rivers so far. If I can do the Schaub and Bush for Rivers would you do that trade? Thanks for your advice!

I’ve been offered BenJarvus Green-Ellis for Chris Johnson. Would that be a huge mistake? I’m more than frustrated over the waste of a first-round pick that was Chris Johnson, so I may not be objective.

      • Brandon 6:11 pm on October 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

No way you can do that trade. Green-Ellis just had a big game and Chris Johnson will hopefully improve all year. If Ridley continues getting carries too, that will cut into BJGE’s touches. Try to get him to throw in someone else and maybe I’d consider it.

Roll with the hot hand of Cruz, then maybe gamble on Starks against one of the worst run defenses in the league. Hopefully Rodgers can put them up early and Starks can run about 20 times. Good luck!

      • Brandon 11:49 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that’s a tough one. As huge an Aaron Hernandez fan as I am, I think I lean towards the other three. Cruz is the hot hand right now and it’s hard to bench him (and he’s the only guy I’d really consider benching over Hernandez.) For your sake, maybe you bench Hernandez and hope that it’s Gronkowski’s turn to shine.

Would you start Witten or Earnest Graham in a flex spot? (.5ppr & .25ppc)

      • Brandon 11:52 am on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

This is a tough one, but I’m actually leaning towards Earnest Graham as long as LeGarrette Blount is out for sure. Graham racks up the receptions and will be used in the passing game when the team falls behind. Since you get points per carry as well, he could get you a couple additional points there. The Pats are solid against the tight end and will try to shut down Witten like they did Antonio Gates earlier this year.

          (1) Okay, Graham it is..

          (2) Could you add Frank Gore to your list please? I’m not totally considering benching him but I don’t really like the matchup..

          (3) I see you have Sanchez 1 spot over Schaub, that’s the start/sit call I was going to take a chance on..

Julio Jones was just dropped and is on waivers available for pickup on 10/15.

Our league uses FAAB budget of which I have $40 left – Would Julio be worth pursuing, if so how much of my budget should I bid and then who on my roster should I drop to make room for him?

      M Stafford
      T Tebow

      VJax
      S Moss
      V Cruz
      D Heyward-Bey

      R Rice
      D Sproles
      S Greene

      J Finley

      • Brandon 2:50 pm on October 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’m not all that familiar with these budget leagues, but what percentage is $40 of your total salary cap? Can you give an example of another player that went recently and how much they went for? If it’s a keeper league, then Julio Jones would have a ton more value than a redraft league, but if you could get him instead of Heyward-Bey that would be good.

I have to go with Jackson, since Hightower will most likely be sharing carries with Ryan Torain. Hightower has a much better match-up though, but Jackson is back to full health and should get plenty of carries if the Rams can keep the game somewhat close for a while.

      • Brandon 4:08 pm on October 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I like Hernandez’s upside over Daniels, but Daniels is a safer bet. In order to beat Megatron and A.J. Green though, I think you have to roll the dice on D-Jax and Hernandez. Cruz could come back down to earth this week and Jackson is always a candidate to go huge. Good luck though. Hopefully you have some other players to make up for the potential deficit at WR!

Sup guys, I’m back – haven’t posted all year, but now need some friendly advice. I won this league last year, but am sitting in a tough spot. I drafted Kenny Britt and Jamaal Charles, whom both are on IR and I also got Blount, who probably won’t play again until the second half of the season … take a look at the attached screenshot and give me some pointers. I got one obvious question – Percy Harvin or Dustin Keller in my flex spot (WR/RB/TE) …

Besides that, is starting Delone Carter over Montario Hardesty good? Carter is probably going to get the bulk to the carries, whereas OAK run defense is horrible and Hardesty is cutting into Hillis’ numbers … whatchyu think?

BTW – he (opponent) is most likely going to play Daniel Thomas in the flex since CJ2K is on bye, so that’s why I went with Keller – MIA D is awful against TE and it gives me a reason to watch MNF, since he has Thomas going ….

In a PPR league would you advise that I trade Adrian Peterson & Dez Bryant for Wes Welker and Ryan Matthews? I just traded Phillip Rivers for Steve Smith. I have Cam Newton at the helm. My other RB’s are F. Jones, McGahee, Tate, Hardesty, McCluster. My other WR’s are Manningham, Burleson,

          essentially i would go from:

          RIVERS
          PETERSON
          JONES
          BRYANT
          MANNINGHAM

          WITTEN
          BRYANT
          PACKERS

          to:

          NEWTON
          MATTHEWS
          JONES
          S. SMITH
          WELKER
          flex – McGahee/Manninham/Tate/Hardesty/McCluster/Burleson
          WITTEN
          BRYANT
          PACKERS

          suggestions?

          • Brandon 8:58 am on October 6, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Wow, that’d be quite a blockbuster. I guess I’d probably do that trade in your position, as Mathews has actually been outproducing AP, primarily due to his use in the passing game. You’re taking a big risk on Mathews staying healthy, but if he does, you possibly upgrade both positions. It’s PPR too, so that makes Mathews even more awesome…and obviously Welker is King of PPR. Go for it! (But if Mathews gets hurt, you can’t blame me :-))

Not sure Percy Harvin is a great replacement for one of the top receivers in the game, but I like the upgrade at the QB position. You’re giving up a flex guy for two starters in your line-up so it looks pretty fair to me.

Yeah, it’s probably closer than I made it out to be. I just usually prefer a starter to a guy who is in a time share, unless it’s Mathews/Tolbert or something.

Just traded Steve Johnson for Jacobs/Mendenhall. Im selling high on jacobs i think?? U might be scratching your head at this trade but i seriously need RB help. Who do u think i should start – My team now looks like:

          Qb. Rodgers
          RB. Blount
RB. Green Ellis ? Jacobs ??
          RB. LT ? Mendenhall ??
          WR. Mike Wallace
          WR. David Nelson
WR. Miles Austin – week 6 cant wait till hes back
TE. Gresham until Gates is back and healthy
          K. Mike Nugent
          D. Packers

Who should my RBS be??? – I can run 3 out there ( 1 being the flex )

          • Brandon 10:58 am on October 7, 2011 Permalink | Reply

There’s a high probability that Jacobs doesn’t even play this week and Mendenhall is likely out as well. So in terms of this week, you’ll have to go Blount (against a tough defense), Green-Ellis (splitting carries) and LT (splitting carries as well.) Good luck!

          • Brandon 4:36 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’m thinking Garcon is more drown/drought than Nelson at this point. Remember, Garcon is Curtis Painter’s number 3 option behind Wayne and Clark. He only had two receptions last game, both of which happened to be long touchdowns. Soo….Aaron Rodgers’ #3 option or Curtis Painter’s? πŸ™‚

Why does everyone keep putting S. Holmes so high?? I know he is a great receiver but he has been constantly hurt, Sanchez doesnt have anytime to get him. Jordy Nelson has out done Wayne and Homes my 2 best receivers!!

      • Brandon 4:24 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I wouldn’t normally put Holmes so high, but he’s playing the Patriots and their horrendous pass defense. I sense a pretty big game from him this week. As for Nelson, I really have no argument with you playing him over Wayne. Like I said to Schrodinger above, I almost want to move Nelson up a few spots…maybe I will over the course of the next few days πŸ™‚

Agreed. Ok big question I have Ryan Mathews who has been great, I also have Tolbert, who still does ok, would you fill your wr/rb spot with him or Wayne, Nelson, or Harvin?

          • Brandon 4:37 pm on October 5, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Jodry Nelson or David? I think Mathews and Tolbert both have solid games this week and wouldn’t be against you starting both. However, if you didn’t want to put all your eggs in the Chargers basket, go for Jordy Nelson as your flex play.

Would appreciate these guys being added to the list as well. Thanks!

Got Ridley one spot ahead of Redman at this point, but it’s close. As for the other league, I’d drop Meachem for Decker. I’d also drop Washington for Decker, but I like his consistency a bit more than Meachem’s. If you don’t need Jacobs, you could drop him as well, but maybe you need the depth at RB more than WR?

However, at this point, I’m not really counting on him for more than flex play or RB bye/injury fill-in. I just don’t get the sense that the Cowboys are all that interested in pounding the ball with Jones. They’d rather fling it around to all their receivers. Why do you ask? πŸ™‚

If he adds in Hardesty that makes it even better, as you could possibly end up with two starters! I’m not sure what is going on with this story about Hillis getting traded, but I’m not buying that he’ll be traded at this point. He’ll most likely play out his contract this year and then try to find a new buyer in the offseason.

I picked up Torain on the waiver wires this week and have a guy chomping at bit for him. He’s floating Fred Jackson out there – my question is if I should trade Torain and either McGahee, Benson, Michael Bush, or DWilliams, and if so how would you rank them? Thanks!

I’d rank those guys in order: Jackson, McGahee, Torain, Benson (out for a couple weeks in the near future), Williams and Bush. That being said, nearly everyone there other than Jackson are very close in value. If you’re going to package two guys and one is Torain, I guess I’d go with Bush as the other if possible though.

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 4

Sounds like a pretty good deal, as long as you can find some additional depth at wide receiver. I have to image that Chris Johnson’s numbers will go up over the course of the season and if he can return to a top 10 RB, then he and Ray Rice will hold it down for you.

        • Shane 3:07 pm on September 29, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have CJ, Turner, Tate, Addai, Ingram and Stewart at RB and Mike Wallace, Maclin, N. Washington, Manningham and Henderson at WR. Not a lot of free agents left at RB in the league. Henderson has had (2) 100 yard games and 2 TD’s and Manningham hasn’t done much on a NYG up and down team but everyone seems to think Manningham has a big upside.

          • Brandon 9:59 am on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Seems like you have some good depth at RB, so maybe drop Stewart. Henderson and Manningham could both turn out to be solid WR3’s this year and you’re more likely to start them than Stewart.

Hey Brandon – Interesting question for you…

In my league, which gives 1 point for every 20 return yards, Antonio brown is the #27th WR right now in fantasy points. That’s above Bowe, Nicks, Burleson, Branch, DeSean, etc. etc. Obviously, most of these other guys will pick it up and likely surpass him, but how much weight would you give to his return opportunities? Do teams usually stick with a return man for the season unless they start fumbling? Would you drop any of these for Brown in this league: Mike Thomas, Dexter McCluster, Henderson, Burleson?

      Thanks!

      • Brandon 10:37 am on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hey Brandon, it’s me again. I got proposed a trade yesterday, but I don’t feel it is a move I *should* take.

Proposed Trade: Cam Newton and Carnell Williams for LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster.

      My team is:
QB: Jay Cutler, Tarvaris Jackson (keeping in mind this is a 2QB league)
WR: Hakeen Nicks, Nate Burleson, Jordy Nelson, Mario Manningham, Torrey Smith
RB: LeSean McCoy, Beanie Wells, Bernard Scott, Arian Foster
      TE: Jermichael Finley, Ed Dickson
      K: Mason Crosby
      D: Detroit

      His team is:
QB: Cam Newton, Michael Vick, Matt Ryan
WR: Greg Jennings, Chad Ochocinco, Denarius Moore, Devin Hester, Mike Sims-Walker
RB: Jahvid Best, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Carnell Williams, Knowshon Moreno, Danny Woodhead
      TE: Jason Witten,
      K: Robbie Gould
      D: NY Giants

I feel that I am giving up a lot more than he is offering. What would you consider an “attractable” counter-offer. I realize that I do NEED a (much much much) better QB2, but I don’t know if it is worth giving up the #4 and #13 RB for Cam and an non-top20 RB in Carnell (who was limited in practice due to health issues).

As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!

      • Brandon 11:50 am on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Definitely do NOT take that trade as is. You’re giving up two potentially top 10 RB’s for an overachieving rookie QB and a backup RB. I guess it depends on who he values the most of his quarterbacks. Is Newton the one you can get the easiest? Can you get Matt Ryan for cheaper? Also, I would try to package Mario Manningham in the deal too to sweeten it, with maybe Sims-Walker in return. That way you break up your Giants receiver duo. If Cam Newton is the easiest to get, maybe something like this:

Arian Foster, Mario Manningham for Cam Newton and Sims-walker? You could replace Foster with McCoy I guess, but I’d recommend you hang onto him if you can. Either way, you shouldn’t give up one of your starting RB’s + more for Newton who’s value is pretty high still.

    • Neil 11:59 am on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I could actually prolly get Ryan for cheaper. He starts Newton, and has Ryan on the Bench. Should I attempt a Ryan, Walker for Foster, Manningham, or is that too “generous” for Ryan?

      • Brandon 12:21 pm on September 30, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You might hang on to what you have for a few more weeks. See if Arian Foster can build up some good numbers then possibly trade him straight up for a good QB…maybe to some other team if necessary. Can you stay put with Tarvaris Jackson for a few weeks?

First time on this site, glad I found it. I need some help this week, 14 team league, PPR. I’ve had injuries left and right so I have some tough choices this week.

Go with Big Ben playing New England or chance it with Jason Campbell who’s playing Houston?

Then, I usually go with 3 running backs and 2 receivers. With five spots open, out of this list list who should I go with?
Mccoy (obviously he gets a spot)
      Gore
      Tolbert
      LaDamien Tomlinson
      Colston
      Deion Branch
      Devin Hester
      Steve Smith (phi)
      Mohamed Masaquoi

(I have Austin and had Britt but we know what happened to them)

      Thank you so much!

      • Matt 5:06 pm on October 1, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Big Ben without a doubt – New England has serious issues in its secondary so any decent QB is a great fantasy start against them, especially since the Pats offense is still so potent. They’re going to be in a shootout every week.

Keep an eye on Gore’s status pre-game and get him in there if there aren’t any red flags. Tolbert’s probably not a great start given the positive trend in the news about Mathews. Colston is a very shaky start with Payton saying he plans to limit him.

I’d start McCoy, Gore (assuming he’s ok), Branch, Smith and Tomlinson.

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 3

As with last year, instead of automatically ranking every player at every position (like the big sites with the big bucks do :-)), I’ll be ranking all requested players against other requested players. For example, if you have four wide receivers and you’re trying to fill three spots, you just comment with the four names and I’ll rank them against eachother. In essence, this will accomplish the same thing as if you were to scan a complete list of wide receivers for where your four guys rank. I’ll start the list off with a few guys that were on the list last week.

Here’s a link to the Google Doc spreadsheet for those viewing on mobile devices. Anyways, feel free to start submitting names for me to rank! Just a disclaimer…I’m more likely to put your players on the list faster if you just give me a couple names to compare. When you comment with your entire team, it makes me less likely to get the players listed until the very last minute. (View the rankings after the jump)… (More …)

Who has more long-term chance of being a solid fantasy RB: Hightower, Starks, or Tate?

      • Brandon 9:36 am on September 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

At this point I’m the most confident in Hightower, as Starks plays on a pass-first team and Tate is still going to have to split carries with Arian Foster (when he’s actually healthy.) As long as Hightower doesn’t fumble away his job, it’s his to lose.

      • Brandon 10:29 am on September 22, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I wouldn’t do it. Then you’ll have to rely on Bowe to carry your WR corps, which is pretty risky this year. You’ll also have to decide whether to play Tate or Foster every week, which will be a pain. You don’t have a ton of depth for trades without giving up a key player, but I’d keep V-Jax and hope that he, Brady, Hillis and Gronk can carry your team.

Just found this site after googling “Fred davis for Aaron Hernandez?” And that’s exactly my question. My league is PPR and I have Clark (lucky pick right?) Chandler, and Davis (just claimed). My potential trade partner initially offered me Shonn Green for Davis. I wrote back that Im interested in his Pitt D, AJ Green, Stevie Johnson, and Hernandez. Then I recalled pulling a similar move from a couple year back. i acquired frank gore on the cheap when he got hurt and I rode his end of the season explosion to a championship. Obviously Hernandez isn’t frank gore, but i figured i could nab hernandez, fill in with chandler or clark. What do you think? Should I ask for more? Are you wondering why i have three TE’s? (me 2) Should I wait a week to see if Davis goes big against Dallas?

User Requested Player Rankings – Week 2

I think I moved Steve Smith down a few spots as you were typing this comment. I think as you see me add more top tier receivers to this list, he’ll drop down a bit. As for the other guys, I’ve added them to the list. Wayne is hard to rank this week. He racked up some good stats last week in garbage time and this game should be closer, but he’ll still get plenty of looks I’m sure.

Appreciate it and fully agree with the whole figuring out where Reggie Wayne should go. Steve Smith is one of those guys that I love but has let me down every year the past three years. Hopefully Cam is what he needed.

Ben Rothlisberger is my QB & Eli Manning my backup. I really want to pick up Cam Newton (yah, even after just this first game) and drop Eli since I’ll play Rothlisberger for the most part anyway. I see though, you have Eli as number 5 and I know Cam Newton wouldn’t be up there on your list. He’d just be my backup though. Thoughts?

      • Brandon 2:28 pm on September 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I just added Cam Newton to the list. He has to have at least more one good game before I can justify ranking him ahead of known quantities. In terms of your situation though, it’s hard for me to advise you drop Eli or Big Ben for Cam. Anyway you can carry three QBs for a week or two to see how Cam does?

You won’t want to trade him until he has a big game, otherwise you’ll get absolutely no value for him. He could turn it around, you should give him a chance. If there was a huge Chiefs fan in the league though, maybe they’d take him off your hands πŸ™‚

Hmm, definitely don’t do it for McCoy and even for MJD that isn’t a great deal. Is there someone else in the league who can give you a better quarterback for one of them? It looks like you need to upgrade your WR position pretty badly. I’d focus on that first and roll with Freeman at QB until the right trade comes along. Maybe you can trade MJD or Fred Jackson straight up for top tier wide receiver like Larry Fitzgerald or Roddy White.

Definitely Meachem this week over Maclin? Meachem is definitely a target for this week, but Maclin could be more of one this week as well–having beast games in the past over Falcons and Vick possibly going wild this week? Downside, he’s been down and out this year.

      • Brandon 10:37 am on September 18, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yeah it was Maclin’s health and the fact that he wasn’t that effective last week that scared me away from him in week two. Hah, I don’t always get them right, but it’s good to see somewhere that I did! (Even if you defied my genius advice :-))

Im in two fantasy football leagues and i have malcom floyd as my starter in both of them
in one league i have mike sims walker as my bench and in my other league (who counts return yardages [20 yards per point]) i have erick decker as my reserve.

who should i start? should i just go with malcom floyd in both of my leagues? thanks for your help!

oh btw they’re both PPR if that helps

I’d just go with Floyd. If the Chargers have the same success passing on the Patriots (they’ll have to pass a lot too I think) then Floyd should get plenty of looks. Bradford’s injury in St. Louis scares me away from MSW and Decker probably won’t return another kick for a score this week. Good luck!

just curious who to start out of these 4 running backs, i need all the advice i can get. cadillac or steven (depending on if steven is injured still and unable to play, i have both on my roster but i’ll only use one in the starting position on my roster), shonn greene, james starks or willis mcgahee. thank you for any help πŸ™ i’m really stuck on if shonn greene is worth starting or not. for now i have brandon marshall in my wr/rb slot and am going with starks and cadillac/steven for rbs

I have Greene over the others at this point, but he’s always underachieving. I wouldn’t be against you starting McGahee actually, with Moreno most likely out this week. Keep Brandon Marshall in the flex spot, that’s for sure. Good luck!

2 out of Tolbert, Hightower and Carnell Williams?

      • Brandon 10:16 am on September 18, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I have Tolbert the lowest of them all, as I think the Chargers will have to pass a lot in this game, but a lot of the other analysts still love him. If Steven Jackson plays, it’s easy. If S-Jax sits, I’m going Hightower and Cadillac. But it’s really close between Tolbert and Williams. Good luck either way!

Blount or Shonne Green for rb 2? you got em one apart but can jax d really stop the run again like last week against cj2k? thx

I have more faith in Blount rebounding than Greene, who has LT to fight for carries with. They’re so close though, but I still have to go with Blount until Greene can change my mind. Good luck!

thanks! You think steve smith (car) is for real? esp against the pack? what about branch vs smith?

          • Brandon 10:45 am on September 18, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I’m gambling that Steve Smith is at least half-way for real! It’ll be a tough match-up tough so we’ll see what he does. There’s no way I start Deion Branch over him, if that’s what you’re asking. You don’t bench a guy the week after he goes over 170 yards and two touchdowns πŸ™‚

Hey there!! Is it too late for you to add Tampa Bay D/ST and the Bears? I think they both will have slim pickings today but they are my choices. Thank you!

Packers or Texans this week? Also i have 2 wide receivers on questionable list this week. Assuming both play Dez Bryant or Brandon Lloyd?
