As next week will be week 12 in the NFL, there is a good chance that some of your fantasy teams are already mathematically eliminated from making the playoffs in your leagues. If you happen to be in this scenario, but also happen to be in a keeper/dynasty league, make sure to check out the wide receivers on our waiver wire post this week, as there are some good targets to stock up for next year!

The Wire: The (Lance) Ball is in your court!

This season I’ve continued to tweak the format of the waiver wire list, so pay attention! I’ve organized it by position now, since that probably makes more sense when you’re trying to fill a particular position. In terms of the color coding: green are guys to target, yellow are guys that are less-than-spectacular, but you can plug-in if necessary, and red are one-hit-wonders you can ignore.

Here is the waiver wire advice for this week in Google Doc spreadsheet format if that’s the way you prefer to digest it.

i’m thinking of trading Jones-Drew for Newton straight up. what do you think?

I’m thinking of keeping Murray since he seems to be really shining. No more news on Felix Jones… I had Murray benched in favor of Fred Jackson because I thought Murray and Jones would share looks… still won this round, but it hurt me inside.

BTW, what do you think of Fred Jackson? He was kind of disappointing this week, and though I know he’s really good, someone was saying that he might not do well later in the season once it gets cold.

Injuries are ruining my team this year, especially now with news that Schaub is out indefinitely (and probably for the rest of the season). So, who do you think I should pick up to take his place. My other QB is Andy Dalton. The available QBs are McCoy, Cassel, Jackson, Ponter, Skelton, Beck, Orton, Palmer, Grossman, Gabbert.

I am leaning toward Palmer, but this is really a crappy situation. In line to make the playoffs in what is my rookie season, but now I’m not so sure.

And if i attempt to go for a trade, who do you think i should target without having to give up too much? Eli Manning, Romo, Smith, Cutler?

I like Eli over the rest in that group. Pick up Carson Palmer immediately though.

I currently have Ballard, Gresham and Schiancoe (sp) on my team (we have one TE spot and a WR/TE flex spot). I have Andre Johnson and my other WRs are WR3 at best. Celek is also available. Should I drop any of the first 3 for Celek? Do I even need three TEs? Needless to say, I only have one win thus far in this season…

      • Brandon 4:44 pm on November 8, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I think the TE spot is the least of your worries if you only have one win 🙂 Stick with Ballard for now.

Hey Brandon, do you think I should go with Antonio Brown or Lauret Robinson to take the place of Miles Austin on my roster? (my other WRs are Jordy Nelson Pierre Garcon; DeSean Jackson & A.J. Green).

      Send LeSean McCoy, Phi RB
      Send Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB
      Send Eric Decker, Den WR

      Receive Cam Newton, Car QB
      Receive Calvin Johnson, Det WR
      Receive Fred Davis, Wsh TE

Now, I know Cam Newton is currently ranked #1 QB, and Calvin Johnson is #1 WR, but I’m wary about losing both McCoy and Jones-Drew. I’d still have DeMarco Murray and Fred Jackson though.

I currently have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Freeman as QBs, so Newton IS a step up. My starting wide receivers are Brandon Lloyd and A.J. Green. Johnson would be nice to add as my WR1. So, essentially I’d be switching from having 3 RBs and 2 WRs to having 2 RBs and 3 WRs, right? I have Witten for my TE

      • Brandon 4:45 pm on November 8, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Hmm, the only problem I see is that Felix Jones could be back this week and then DeMarco Murray could start splitting carries. Maybe you can replace Jones-Drew with Murray and do the trade?

        • Massie 11:42 am on November 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

          Another trade question for you:

          Send Miles Austin
          Receive Brandon Jacobs.

          My team as of now:

          RB: LeSean McCoy
          RB: Pierre Thomas

          WR: Victor Cruz
          WR: Mike Wallace
          WR: Julio Jones

+ of course M. Austin. (but we only start two WR, two RB and have a RB/WR position)

What do you say? Austin will be out for a significant amount of time and Jacobs has some nice matchups coming up.

          • Corey 2:51 pm on November 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Keep Miles, Jacobs will fall back to minimal carries to give Bradshaw a breather. Nothing more.

I’d do the first trade. When McFadden is back, hopefully in a week or so, he’ll be way better than Chris Johnson and Lloyd is one of the most targeted receivers in the league right now.

I would start Stevie/Robinson based on defensive matchups along with murray/jackson/mccoy. Brown is against the Bengals which limit the amount of points to wr’s, *41.8 yrds a game to wr2* + Ben has been TERRIBLE vs the Bengals in the past. AJ Green will have Ike Taylor all over him. *PIT 55.6 yrds a game vs wr1.

Sproles you shouldn’t sit for the rest of the year period unless injured. I would start Sproles/White/Wallace.

Last game pats vs jets revis did not play welker all game. From reports is that he will be glued to him all day.

White goes up against a very shotty secondary at NO and with sharper possibly not playing that will open up the passing game even more. NO’s crap run d will open up play action and White will breakout this week.

Wallace vs the stout pass d in Cinn. Hey look at it this way, what did stevie J do to them last year 8 catches 137 and 3 tds. I don’t think Cincys d can stop the new and improved passing attack of the steelers.

Miles Austin was just dropped in one of my leagues. I’m thinking it would be worth trying to pick him up to stash for the FF playoffs BUT I may be fortunate enough with the team I have because I’m having a hard time picking a player to drop for him.

What do the you guys think about dropping any of the below to pick up and stash Miles Austin: I got them ordered from what I believe to make the most sense down to the least.

      1. Eagles D (I also have the Jets D. I just picked up Eagles D to cover this next week but maybe I should drop them for Austin instead and roll with the Jets D)
      2. Tim Tebow (I already have Newton and Stafford)
      3. Rashard Mendenhall (Ray Rice, Sproles, Steven Jackson, and DeMarco Murray are my other RBs)
      4. Greg Olsen (I have Aaron Hernandez to)
      6. Antonio Brown (this would leave me with only two healthy/active WRs until Austin is back)
      7. DeMarco Murray (anticipating reduced production from sharing carries with Felix Jones)

      • Corey 3:07 pm on November 9, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Ask yourself this question. “Will I ever start Tebow over Newton or Stafford”. Over and over until you realize that you will NEVER DO SUCH A THING lol. Drop Tebow, snag Austin and hold on to him for ffplayoffs. I’m using the Eagles D this week and benching the 49ers strictly based on the matchup. Eagles vs bummed knee wells and a 2nd string qb should be a decent matchup.

        drop olsen

      • Brando 3:37 am on November 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I did get Austin but went with dropping the Eagles D. My thinking is that I might be able to use Tebow in a trade to improve further at WR. There are two teams I’m targeting in my 10 team league that are struggling at QB.

One has Welker and the other has Megatron. I am offering Tebow and Antonio Brown to each for their top WR. I’m hoping one will accept and then am hoping to pick up the Eagles D again before Sunday 🙂

I am thinking I may throw in Mike Wallace instead of Antonio Brown if neither accepts.

Is giving up Mike Wallace (#3 rank at the position) along with Tebow too much to bump up to #2 Welker or #1 Calvin Johnson?

I’m thinking it would still be a good move.

I’m in the same boat as you are. I have both Mathews and Tolbert and I’m starting Tolbert. Mainly because of how he performed last week vs the packers and Mathews is coming off an injury and may not get the bulk of the work. Next week will be a different story I think.

Short term Helu until choice is integrated into the offense and then you have a split with Torain/helu/choice. Long term I like Tate especially when they get farther along in the year and they want to give foster some extended rest so he’s fresh in the playoffs.

I would of traded morris and Ogbonnaya for Cj. You just gave up a great developing rb for 2 busts. Hoping CJ picks it up and get into a point scoring machine is not the right way to think of him. Titans have already mentioned that they are possibly going to release him out of contract at the end of the year. They will look to get Ringer more carries and see if he is the future of the franchise or if they have to pursue a better rb in the draft or in FA. Bad trade Scottie G bad trade. 🙁

Don’t get me wrong, I still think CJ will get you around 5-10 points a game going forward. He may even have a breakout game SOMEDAY lol but by looking at both of their schedules McGahee and the *running* broncos have a much easier schedule vs run defense. KC/Jets/SD/Min/Chi/Ne/buf/kc out of all of those games the only game that would worry me is the MIN game. 43 yards for cj vs the colts tells you just by the ease of schedule it doesn’t matter with him. He stinks this year lol.

2QB/3WR/2RB/TE/Flex/4BN league. I think I’m going to start Ryan instead of Fitzpatrick, although I also start Brees, so that should be interesting. I just picked up Antonio Brown and Harvin (can’t help it….Vikings fan…..). I think I’m set at TE and RB (FJax and MBush). Quandry is receivers, not from talent but performance and matchups.

      So which 3 WRs?

Brown: I wonder if he is going to get stuffed by CIN?
Green: I wonder if he is going to get stuffed by PIT?
      D. Jackson: I wonder if he just sucks and I should cut him (only half kidding)?
Manningham: Seems WR3 at best here
Harvin: OK, I am a Vikings fan, but it seems like he is due, is healthy, plays the Pack well, and I just have a feeling he will bust out.

So I’m thinking Green, Brown, Harvin? Or does Manningham push in here (assuming we are giving up on DeSean Jackson, although his matchup is good).

      Thanks!

Need a fill in for Cam this week: Have Fitzpatrick, but he’s playing the Jets – thinking of dropping him for Bradford, Dalton & Smith also available….. Which to play this week & keep?

Also – struggling with which RB to drop to field a D/St on Sunday, I have Rice, McFadden, M Bush, BGE, Best, & Murray(start 2, std). Would love to dangle one of the bench guys in a trade for a decent D/St, but unlikely to get a bite. Worried about DMC’s durability, Best’s too, Murray’s committee & schedule.

Could also drop a WR (Megatron, A Brown, Holmes, Manningham, Jordy Nelson) or backup TE (Gonzo, AHern starts) too.

Then which D/St to pick up, where kickoff return yards scoring is generous: KC (vs Mia), OAK (vs Den), Pats (vs NYG), ATL (@Indy).

      Thanks guys

The Wire: Bad week to be a running back!

Remember, Pickemfirst is a great browser plug-in to use with our waiver wire lists!
