    Week 10 FAIL: Peyton Manning.

Here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

This week the list is headlined by a couple Hall of Fame quarterbacks, but because Favre has been on the list almost every week this season, we’ll focus on Mr. Peyton Manning. Not a terrible game, since his team won and he didn’t throw an interception, but just 185 yards and no touchdowns?! Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Manning put up those kind of numbers.

I’ve included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a separate worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up. As usual, drama-king himself, Brett Favre, leads the pack!

Anyways, here are the rest of them (and here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet)…

roddy’s game isn’t enough to swing a matchup.
had AP, moss, steve johnson, witten, NYG DEF! for crying out loud, fitzpatrick, all failed. lost to the last place team, no longer in first. guess that’s fantasy football at its best for ya. Kitna and amendola on the bench.

Peyton Manning, Aaron Hernandez, Steve Johnson.. at least Sanchez threw to Keller bunch of times although he couldn’t haul it in.

After the very disappointing week last weekend, I only have one player on the FAIL list – Witten. I had Felix, Orton, Cutler & Nate Washington burning holes on my bench, but I had Big Ben, Hillis, SJax, Andre, Boldin, and Carpenter in the line up and all of them were in double digits or close enough that it doesn’t matter.
I think Vernon Davis should have been included also, but his main problems were TD’s called back due to penalty.

User Requested Player Ranks – Week 10

This year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. This week I’ve kicked off the lists with the top five players from last week at each position. You can find the spreadsheet after the jump. (More …)

I had a feeling about Derrick Mason this week but now that I read that Cleveland is nice to Tight Ends I’m inclined to start Dustin Keller in my flex spot..

It’s a 0.5ppr league and my other options are Crabtree, Davone Bess or Nate Washington. On matchups alone, I looked past Bess considering the Henne picks and Titans D, and Crabtree with his QB situation and Rams D.. maybe Nate?

Nate Washington is an interesting play this week and there’s really no way to know what he’ll do with the Moss-factor in affect. Mason has a great match-up, but I’m never high on Thursday night guys unless they’re top-tier guys. Maybe it’s just me, but I hate to have a guy have a lousy game, then I’m forced to regret it for a few days until Sunday comes around. I say roll the dice on Washington and hope he puts up another game like in week 8!

Ryan Torain, Brandon Lloyd, Willis Mcgahee, Tennessee Titans Def.

Im in a pretty deep league and i have Peyton Hillis and Darren Mcfadden as running backs. Obviously Mcfadden has a bye so im having a little bit of trouble finding a replacement. My options basically come down to Ryan Torain, Willis Mcgahee, B.G.E, LaGarrette Blount, Brandon Jacobs. Any opinions? Or maybe add anyone that you think might be available on my Yahoo league.

      • Brandon 2:59 pm on November 10, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Keep an eye on Torain and see if he seems like he’ll play. If he doesn’t though, I would feel good about starting LeGarrette Blount or Brandon Jacobs. I see Blount rebounding this week and having a solid outing. Good luck!

These guys are all on there now. As for the best long term receiver, I think you have to go with Steve Johnson as long as he’s healthy. He’s proven to be Ryan Fitzpatrick’s favorite target.

Oh dear roster must be set tonight, Thursday games are here.

      QBs – Jay Cutler, Mark Sanchez, Troy Smith;

RBs – Danny Woodhead, Knowshon Moreno, BJGE, Chirs Johnson (I’m thinking of playing Woodhead as RB over Knowshon. I don’t have much faith in Moreno with the Broncos right now)

Tight Ends – Heath Miller, Bo Scaiffe

He also has: Vick, m williams TB, desean jackson, frank gore, T Owens, Marques colston,
can you believe, that i’m on top of 3 tied for first? and you have to play roddy this thurs right?

Added those guys. As for your trade, do you have a flex spot? If so, I wouldn’t sacrifice the opportunity to start AP, Charles AND McFadden each week. Who does he like more, Vick or Rodgers? I like Vick more so maybe you can work a deal for him. I love DeSean Jackson and T.O. as well, but not sure he’d trade them.

As long as Roddy White plays, you have to start him.

      • Brandon 10:00 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Added Shaun Hill. As for Washington, I’m not all that high on them this week. Philly is rolling now that Vick is back and the Redskins fantasy points are a bit skewed by DeAngelo Hall’s 4 interception game. Go with the Bills against a beat up Shaun Hill and hope they can force a couple turnovers. Maybe the weather will be bad and keep the score down as well.

I would also like your thoughts on Nate Washington vs Woodhead vs Welker vs Vernon Davis vs Witten. I don’t have Hernandez, but he is available in my league and I have had my eye on him for few weeks. I would most likely drop Cutler for him and roll with 3 TEs.
I am in a Yahoo league, so I can plug Woody in to any RB or WR slot. I am trying to fill one W/T slot and two W/R slots

Hah, you made me rethink the rankings and since then Hernandez has slid a bit. I wouldn’t worry about picking him up with Davis/Witten already on your team. As for the others, go with Washington/Woodhead and another tight end if possible (too many flex spots!)

Here’s the question that’s gonna have me in knots Sunday morning. I have one flex spot available, so two of these three guys have to sit: Ahmad Bradshaw, Roethlisberger, Mike Wallace. Any argument you can make to help guide this decision would be great. Thanks!

      • Brandon 10:29 am on November 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Interesting that you can start a QB in the flex spot. How has the scoring been in the league? QB’s outscoring RB’s on a regular basis, etc? I love Big Ben against the Patriots this week and he’s probably the best play. If Wallace catches a touchdown, it’ll most likely be Roethlisberger who threw it (and not Antwaan Randle El :-))

        • Brian 1:00 pm on November 11, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, I think the league manager will push to change that before next season. I took Manning and Rodgers with my first 2 picks; another guy has both Rivers and Orton. Those can be pretty horrendous duos to face, especially for the guys who targeted less predictable RBs and WRs first and were left with not even 1 stud QB. Thanks for the advice–I was leaning toward Ben, but it’s nice to have some confirmation.

It might sound crazy, but I actually have Miles Austin ranked the worst this week. Dwayne Bowe has been a scoring machine the past month+ and Ward should have a decent game against one of the weaker secondaries in the league. Austin plays a Giants defense that has been clobbering teams as of late, not to mention three out of four of his last games have been terrible. He definitely has the skills to prove me wrong, but I’m just not high on him this week.

Manning vs Phili or Sanchez vs Cinci?

      • Brandon 12:11 pm on November 18, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I got Manning a few spots ahead of Sanchez (he’s playing Houston, not Cincy.) The Texans are the worst pass defense in the league, but Sanchez is a little banged up (bruised calf) and Eli has been solid all year.

The Wire – Week 10 pick-ups: Fantasy football playoffs approaching…

As we get to week 10, the bye weeks are nearly over and teams are probably closing in on clinching playoff spots. The trade deadline is most likely passed in a lot of leagues (or about to pass) and you’ll be relying on free agent pick-ups to get you past any injuries your team might face. So with that in mind, here are the potential waiver wire targets for the upcoming week, headlined by a couple of wide receivers who were no where near your cheat sheets going into this season (Seyi Ajirotut and Jacoby Ford), as well as the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

Wondering which D you’d pick up for week 10: TB vs Car, ARI vs Charlie Whitehurst, or MIN @Chi (is Chicago falling out of the “always play a D against them’ club, possibly?)

Also – just need a bye fill-in @qb for this week only, assuming Rodgers stays healthy. I was thrilled to get Matthew Stafford, but now not so much. Everyone on your list except Freeman & Favre are available – Garrard has the best matchup, but he’s not the most reliable…. who would you guys go with?

      Thanks

Sam Bradford vs SF also available

I think at defense I like Tampa Bay just slightly over Arizona. Call it a hunch 🙂

At quarterback, I’d roll the dice with David Garrard. He’s got a great match-up and should manage at least half-way decent stats against the league’s worst pass defense.

      Hello Brandon,

I picked up Jacob Tamme last week mostly because my other TE (Vernon Davis) had a bye. I usually only carry one TE since I can play only one. Should I drop one? Trade one? Who?

      thanks,
      Chris

That’s a tough one. At this point, I wouldn’t let Tamme go. He’s obviously picked up right where Dallas Clark left off. See what you can get for Vernon Davis…or just carry two tight ends in case one gets hurt. Who would have you have to drop to carry both?

I just grabbed Nate Washington. I’m hoping that with Moss in town that Washington can get single coverage and be that Welker/Harvin type slot machine. Gotta do something! All the other WRs on my team are slumping at the wrong time. My 3 starters (Boldin, Andre, & Collie) all ended up on your FAIL list. I also had 2 RB’s on that list (Felix & Stewart), but they were benched.

Unfortunately, I have to cheer against Nate Washington this week as an opponent is starting him. I’m most likely going to start Randy Moss though, so we’ll see how that works out!

I just need something – ANYTHING – from my WR crew!

      Hey Brandon,

lucky me, i played seyi this past weekend (makes up for not playing steve johnson as you recommended 2 weeks ago). roddy whites injury is pretty troublesome.
what are your thoughts on a kicker, as mine (s. gowstowski) is injured now?
also, you really think jacoby ford will produce, with the impending return of louis murphy / zach miller? same question for seyi?
and what you think of vince young compared to kitna or fitzpatrick?

      THANKS a bunch

      • Brandon 2:59 pm on November 9, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Congrats on starting Seyi Ajirotutu this week. Risky play, but it paid off BIG TIME! At kicker, I dropped Gostkowski weeks ago. Just roll with a kicker like Jeff Reed or Sebastian Janakowski or something and you’ll be fine. As for Jacoby Ford and Seyi, they’re both on a bye, so it’ll be interesting to see how they respond in week 11. I like Seyi’s chances for a repeat more though.

At quarterback, Vince Young becomes very intriguing with Randy Moss. Kitna scares me a lot these days, but Fitzpatrick should be consistent with Matt Cassel-like stats (200 yards, 2 scores or something.) I think I like Fitzpatrick just a bit more than Vince Young, primarily because he’s actually healthy, but that could change once we see the new and improved Titans offense in action.

I have a waiver question for you guys. It seems to me that Portis is the obvious waiver grab over Williams this week in Washington but the Arizona situation is confusing me. Currently in my league that awards 1 point per 15 return yards, both Hightower and Stephens-Howling are available. I’m unsure of who to pick up. Hightower will likely see the ball more next week but it seems to me that as soon as Wells is healthy, he will be an afterthought. Stephens-Howling on the other hand should be good from here on out but as a returner he has a limited ceiling for points each week. Which would you pick up?

My current waiver queue is Portis then LaRod then Hightower but I’m just unsure at this point. Advice?

Got some decisions to make for week 10
Garcon vs CIN or Crabtree vs STL
Mcnabb vs PHI or Kitna vs NYG (playing comeback)

      Hi Brandon,

Based solely on value (as opposed to need), am I giving up too much to get Vincent Jackson if I’m giving up Dwayne Bowe and Ryan Torain?

      Thanks!

So I lost this week thanks to Hines Ward’s fumble…That being said, please pick two (non-ppr): Miles Austin, Dwayne Bowe, and Hines whom I’m starting to hate. I’m obviously leaning towards sitting Ward vs. NE. Thank you. Keep up the great work.
