Week 12 FAIL: Chargers passing game goes AWOL

Here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

This week features an entire passing offense that I never expected to see here. Philip Rivers and the Chargers somehow managed to put up little-to-no stats in a game in which they thoroughly dominated the Indianapolis Colts. I guess when you’re running all over the opposing team and Peyton Manning is throwing pick-six’s, there is little need to risk it by throwing a lot.

I’ve included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a separate worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up. As usual, drama-king himself, Brett Favre continues to lead the pack!

Anyways, here are the rest of them (and here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet)…

Man my fail list is sooooo LONG!
      DeSean Butter Fingers Jackson
      Steve Butter Fingers Johnson
      Chris WTF Johnson
      Mark C’mon Man Sanchez

Me for not playing BJGE like I wanted to, but instead listened to all the pundits advice. Now I most likely will not make the playoffs. That might be a good thing, take me out of my misery.

Don’t forget Qakland’s Darrin McFadden. Last 2 games were worthless. Against SD this week it will probably be the same.

      • Brandon 6:34 am on December 1, 2010 Permalink | Reply

The only reason McFadden didn’t make the list is due to his solid day in the receiving game. I have him in a league where we get 0.5 points per reception, so his seven catches for 63 yards weren’t completely horrible. However, his rushing the past couple games have been absolutely atrocious.

Funny, in a league with a flex spot, I have Chris Johnson, Ray Rice and Darren McFadden. I thought I was pretty much guaranteed a spot in the championship, but all three have been playing way below expectations. 🙁

I can send you the list for my team if you want me to start the Week 13 FAIL post for you… Thanks Orton!!
I still have hope though. Just need Welker to have 100+ yards and a couple of TD’s and I will get the win and bragging rights.

      • Brandon 11:05 am on December 6, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Yeah, I’m putting the blame on Orton for costing me $100. If he had scored some decent points, I had a chance to win the regular season 1st place prize!

User Requested Player Ranks – Week 12

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hopefully the holiday brings bountiful fantasy football victories and playoff clinchings 🙂

This year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. This week I’ve kicked off the lists with the top five players from last week at each position. You can find the spreadsheet after the jump. (More …)

Just added them. Lots of solid players there!

Thanks for ranking ’em. It’s getting tough to decide from week to week–even matchups aren’t a lot of help. I’ve also got Calvin Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Rodgers and P Manning, if you can believe it. Pretty proud of the team I’ve ended up with–just a matter of avoiding injuries, because I’ve already reached the league cap on acquisitions. Thanks again–BW

please add- Harvin, Fitzgerald, Welker, Braylon Edwards. I never have any idea of who to start besides

      TE- Moeaki or Heap?

      • Brandon 5:06 pm on November 24, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Just added them. Go Heap over Moeaki, but neither are spectacular options. Then again, there aren’t a lot of great tight end options these days…

Can you please add Mark Sanchez, Matt Ryan, Felix Jones, Matt Forte, LeGarrette Blount, Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne, Braylon Edwards?

Got them on there. I’m pretty sure you won’t want to start Mathews this weekend…not sure if he’ll even play for that matter!

Think you could thrown Deion Branch and Jabar Gaffney on there too?

          Thanks.

I’d go Branch over Gaffney if that’s the question. No time to officially rank them though…off to eat some food!

Don’t start Best if possible. Meachem makes a decent play against a not-so-great Cowboys pass defense. Won’t get a chance to rank them this afternoon, but hopefully this helps and you have a great Thanksgiving!

      QB – Roethlisberger, Orton
RB – McFadden, F. Jones, S. Jackson, Hillis, Woodhead
WR – A. Johnson, Boldin, Woodhead, Manningham, B. White, Welker
      TE – Witten, V. Davis
      D/ST – Miami, Chicago

Good idea to start Welker and Woodhead vs Detroit???

      • Brandon 10:31 am on November 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

If you only start 2 RB, no way you can start Woodhead over Jackson, Hillis and McFadden. At receiver I wouldn’t start him either over AJ, Boldin or Manningham. If there’s a flex, stick in the other RB. If you have 2 flex spots, stick in Woodhead…then stick in Welker if you have 3 flex spots 🙂

        • Hawgman 10:46 am on November 27, 2010 Permalink | Reply

So heres who I decided to start:
QB – Big Ben (Orton on the bench)
          WR – Andre Johnson
WR – Manningham (Boldin, Collie, Woodhead on the bench)
          RB – Hillis
TE – Vernon Davis (Witten and his 5.5 points on the bench)
          W/T – Welker (good for 17.2 points!)
          W/R – Jackson
W/R – McFadden (Felix Jones, Woodhead on the bench)
K – Bryant (dropped Carpenter this week due to Phins QB issues)
D/ST – Cleveland (dropped Miami due to the Browns matchups thru the end of the season.
Real glad I did not start Woody over Welker. Hopefully your T-day choices were just as successful.

I gotta flex question: Given the news that B. Jacobs will be ‘starting’ over Bradshaw, who would you suggest I start in my flex position: Bradshaw, Miles Austin, or Vincent Jackson? Thanks and happy turkey day!

      • Brandon 5:21 pm on November 24, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Call me crazy, but I’d roll the dice on Vincent Jackson! That receiving corps is in rough shape and he should be a fresh body for Rivers to throw to. Remember Seyi Ajirotutu’s game a couple weeks ago? Maybe he can do something like that. High risk, but high reward.

      • tommy 12:00 am on November 25, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Definitely V-Jax. Bradshaw isn’t starting and I think V-Jax will have a bigger day than Miles Austin

      hey Brandon, it’s me again.
was leaning with burleson, but watch randy have a huge day the minute we bench him.

Witten or Pettigrew on Turkey day?
Fitzpatrick, Kitna, dirty sanchez, josh freeman, or shuan hill at QB? I see some on your rankings but anyway, been rolling with kitna/fitz the past few weeks, but these 2 have tough matchups… Seems like sanchez or freeman would be a good plug? i’ve clinched playoffs in my league, but another win never hurts right?

      thanks!

Need help, Brandon. Can’t decide between Ochocinco, Floyd, and Fred Jackson for my final slot. I’m leaning towards Fred because I know he’ll get the touches. What would you do?

      Could you please add:
      RB T. Hightower
      RB M. Goodson
      RB K. Williams

      RB/WR Woodhead

      WR D. Amendola
      WR S. Moss
      WR S. Rice

I also could use some help as I don’t have much of an idea who to start.
For sure, I’m starting Mendenhall, Blount, and Steve Johnson. But then for my final 2 slots I could play D. Woodhead, S. Moss, S. Rice, D. Amendola, and Hightower, K. Williams, or Goodson.
I’m leaning away from Moss because he’s questionable and never follows a big game with a very good outing.
Woodhead plays today at 12:30 so I need to figure out whether or not to plug him in. I’ll probably play him since Detroit is horrific against the run.
So then it’s down to deciding between Amendola, Moss, Rice, Williams, or Goodson for my flex spot. Any help would be awesome!! 🙂

      • Crispy 1:06 am on November 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

So I ended up not starting Woodhead which turns out to be a wise decision. So now, I need to fill a RB and a flex spot with Amendola, Moss, Rice, Williams, or Goodson.
Like I said, I’m leaning away from Moss although he does have a a very good matchup. Rice looked good in his return. Williams faces a defense that doesn’t give up many points. Goodson faces the Browns who have only given up two TDs all year…but Goodson hasn’t scored yet while still having productive games and he’s basically the only thing working in that offense.

I guess I would go with Rice and Goodson, but may you could shed some light on the situation 🙂

        • Crispy 10:38 am on November 26, 2010 Permalink | Reply

wow, I’m just going to keep spamming the page haha. But I just got Mike Thomas for Tim Hightower (steal!)
So I’m thinking Rice and Thomas with Sims-Walker being out and J. Stewart returning (maybe) for Carolina which might hurt Goodson’s value some. Again, any help it greatly appreciated 😀

Well, considering I have Mike Williams ranked only one spot ahead of Vincent Jackson, I’m moderately indifferent to who you start, hah. V-Jax is higher risk, but most likely higher reward. If you’re a gamblin’ man…go Jackson!

The Wire – Week 12 pick-ups: Glorious Returns

As week 12 approaches, bye weeks are finally over and there’s a good chance your team is closing in on clinching a playoff spot. From this point on, you’ll be relying on free agent pick-ups to get you past any injuries your team might face. So with that in mind, here are the potential waiver wire targets for the upcoming week. This week is headlined by a couple of wide receivers making their return to the playing field, Vincent Jackson from suspension/hold-out and Sidney Rice from hip surgery. As always, we’ve included the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

Would you guys rather pickup Hightower, Wells, Burleson, Ivory, or Balir White in a PPR league for the rest of the season. I’m leaning towards Burleson but I have to believe Wells will do something when he’s at 100%.

      • Brandon 9:53 pm on November 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I agree with Burleson…he’s the most sure thing on the list.

        • Squish 4:50 am on November 24, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I actually had Hightower already. In the end I ended up swapping Wells for Hightower, Burleson for Cribbs (Return Yardage League), and Cassel for McNabb to leave me in good shape for the rest of the year. The team (PPR) is sitting pretty currently:

QB – Eli, Palmer, Cassel (for playoff matchups)
WR – Roddy White, Wayne, Burleson, Williams (SEA), and Rice for insurance
RB – Foster, Rice, Best, Wells
          TE – Winslow, Heap
K – Folk (just for this week)
DST – TEN only because Cleveland wasn’t available to swap.

My WR corps has officially become target city with my 5 WRs racking up 49 targets last week! Not bad for a PPR team!

      hi Jack

I know you are done w/ moss, but for a WR3, who do you play? Nate burleson, Amendola, donald driver, or moss?

how does yahoo project keiland williams w/ 19 points, vs mcfadden, 11.85 or so in my league, and mcfadden is playing miami? so i have to start AP (finally, childress is fired, is it too late for AP?) and thought I could go jamaal in RB2 and mcfadden at flex. but what about keiland replacing either charles/mcfadden? or is that just foolish….

last two i promise: Witten or Pettigrew on Turkey day?
Kitna, dirty sanchez, josh freeman, or shuan hill at QB?

      thanks, and happy Turkey day!

      • Brandon 9:56 pm on November 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’d go with Burleson against the Patriots, who have the worst secondary that I’ve seen in a long time. As for the flex, stick with McFadden. I know he didn’t do a whole lot last week, but give him another chance against a non-Steelers defense. As for the receiver and quarterback, leave a comment tomorrow when I put up the rankings and I have more time to do a little research 🙂
