    Week 15 FAIL: Minnesota Vikings

Here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

This semi-final week is headlined by a team that tried their hardest to screw as many people in the fantasy football world as possible…the Minnesota Vikings. First Yahoo goes and makes alleged starting quarterback Joe Webb eligible at the wide receiver position, tickling the fancy of team managers looking to sneak attack their way into the championship. The Vikings had plans of their own however. After listing Brett Favre as “Out” earlier in the week, they surprisingly upgrade him to “questionable” the day before the game (after waivers were locked in many leagues.) Those hoping to play Joe Webb immediately start panicking. To make matters worse, the team deactivates star running back Adrian Peterson a couple hours before gametime, screwing over the team managers who weren’t able to secure Toby Gerhart as his hand-cuff ahead of time. Anyways, Favre goes out and gets hurt and Joe Webb doesn’t impress, as the entire team rolls out a mediocre offense and a terrible defense. The Vikings are potentially the worst team in the league right now and have some serious issues heading into next season. FAIL.

I’ve included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a separate worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up. As usual, drama-king himself, Brett Favre continues to lead the pack!

Anyways, here are the rest of them (and here’s a direct link to the spreadsheet)…

The excuse for Boldin should be shared by Vernon Davis. He tried to torpedo my team, but the Bears D/ST (thank you Devin Hester!!) would not let him. Onward to the CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

      • Brandon 9:00 am on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

The crazy part is that I had both T.O. and Anquan Boldin…but still pulled off the victory due to my dominant running backs. Now that I don’t have to worry about T.O. this week it should be a little easier. What to do with Boldin is still a question though…

        • Hawgman 9:08 am on December 22, 2010 Permalink | Reply

My WR crew has Manningham (@ GB but w/o Steve Smith), Welker & Woodhead (@ Fluffalo), Boldin (@ Cleveland), Collie (@ the ER), and Andre Johnson (vs _enver).
Boldin will be on my bench where he can do the least amount of damage. I have Andre, Welker and Woody in the line-up, but still thinking about Manningham in Woody’s spot just in case the Pats get stopped by the Bills. (take a deep breath & quit laughing!! I just don’t like putting all my eggs in one basket). ;-D

User Requested Player Ranks – Week 15

This year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format. This week I’ve kicked off the lists with the top five players from last week at each position. You can find the spreadsheet after the jump. (More …)

      Matt Cassel vs StL
      Joe Flacco vs NO
      Jason Cambell vs DEN
      LeGarrette Blount vs DET
      Tim Hightower vs CAR
      Brandon Lloyd vs OAK
      Miles Austin vs WAS
      Vincent Jackson vs SF

Also got a flex question: I need to start 2 of the following and at least 1 has to be a RB: L. Blount, T. Hightower, M. Austin, and/or B. Lloyd. I’m leaning towards going with Blount and Hightower just wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks for all the help this season! Hopefully I’ll be checking back in again next week

Just added those guys. As for your flex play, I have to agree with you on Blount and Hightower. Good luck!

      Dwayne Bowe

      Brandon Lloyd
      Antonio Gates
      Owen Daniels
      Dallas D/ST
      Minnesota D/ST
      St. Louis D/ST

Can you do a prognonsis with Rodgers/Cassel vs. Flynn/Coyle for Jennings/Bowe, respectively?

      • Brandon 12:27 pm on December 15, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Just added those guys. I actually added Bowe twice depending on his quarterback. For Jennings, I’m assuming Rodgers doesn’t start. If he does, you can boost him up a bit, but even Flynn was able to find him a couple times, so it’s not a complete disaster.

WR – Boldin, Woodhead, Welker, Andre Johnson, Nate Washington, Collie
RB – McFadden, Felix Jones, Hillis, Woodhead, Steven Jackson
      TE – Witten, Vernon Davis
      D/ST – Bears, Browns

I dropped Washington and picked up Freemen. My opponent has Rogers as his ONLY QB. If nothing else, he won’t be able to start Freeman against the D-City Kitties.
Also just saw that Orton is officially a clipboard QB and Tebow will get the start. Where would you rank The Monk?

          • Brandon 9:43 am on December 19, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Not sure I can rank Tebow any higher than maybe above Ryan Fitzpatrick. Even then, it’s a toss up. There’s just no way you can risk your playoff chances on the first start for a rookie…unless he qualifies for a WR too 🙂

What I think is that I agree. Mucho gracias. Also interesting – Floyd’s out on the waiver, but I just can’t justify dropping any of my ‘maybe they’ll rock’ RB core when I’m sitting pretty with Hakeen, Wes, and the ever-pluggable D Woodhead. This is a fun FF year… lots of choices.

      • Brandon 3:17 pm on December 16, 2010 Permalink | Reply

I’d stick with Blount against the Lions. Hightower will split carries with Beanie Wells (who shouldn’t be sick anymore) and definitely won’t reproduce his numbers from last week.

I know Fred Jackson is coming off a decent game, but look at his numbers against the Dolphins last time…not great. The same could be said for Jacobs against the Eagles last game, but this time he’s at home and the running game is rollin’ for New York. Go with Jacobs and Torain. Hopefully Rex Grossman can garner at least SOME respect so they don’t completely stack the box for Torain!

The Wire – Week 15 pick-ups: Bottom of the Barrel

Not a whole lot to say here regarding waiver wire pick-ups. At this point, if you’re relying on the waiver wire to carry you to victory, you’re in serious trouble. However, maybe you just need to upgrade one minor spot to give you that tiny edge you need to advance to the next round. As always, we’ve included the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

Still no real news on Collie. He’s been “practicing” for the past couple weeks but hasn’t ended up playing in the games. I’ll try to keep up to date on the situation though.

So right now i’ve got Blount and Hillis starting at RB and have Westbrook, Addai, Dixon and Choice on the bench. I’m thinking of dropping Choice for Hightower or Torain. Based on upcoming schedule, which one of these guys would you go for? Would either be worth starting over Blount or Westbrook this week? Thanks

Oops, might not have gotten to this one in time. Did Torain and Hightower get snatched up? If not, I like Torain over Joseph Addai and then Hightower over Dixon as well. As for who to start, I’ll get them on the newly published rankings shortly, so check back in a bit.
