    Week 9 FAIL: Glad I'm not a Cowboys fan 

    Continuing with a new post for this season, here are a few players who just didn’t quite live up to expectations this week. Were they over-rated to begin with? Did they just have a bad game? Were they benched because their team was dominating (or getting dominated?) It’s probably just a one week mishap, but if they land on this list a couple weeks in a row, you might start worrying! Anyways, feel free to add to the discussion with your own. Maybe someone that you blame this week’s loss on?

    This week marks the first time in FFGeekBlog history that an entire team has headlined the FAIL post twice in the same season (okay, we just started it this year, but still…) The Dallas Cowboys are just pathetic at this point. As a fan of the Patriots, who were embarrassed by the Browns this past weekend, at least put up some decent stats at important positions. This can not be said for the Cowboys, besides Dez Bryant.

    As I mentioned last week, I’ve now included the entire season count of FAIL’s as a new worksheet in the spreadsheet, so you can click the “Season” tab and see where each player stacks up. As expected, drama-king himself, Brett Favre, leads the pack!

      I should have played Danny Woodhead as RB instead of BJGE. Danny made over 10 pts on our Yahoo league. BJGE a little over 1 point.

      I didn’t see Blount on that list, he didn’t burn up the field yesterday either. I was at the game watching him in person! LOL

        Funny you mention Blount. I actually had him on the list as a borderline FAIL, but decided against it due to the fact that he at least put up some yards and expectations may have been a bit high for him considering he had exactly one good game under his belt going into this week’s games, hah.

      My WR lineup for last week – Boldin, Andre, and Collie. I had Hillis in the lineup (every week start in my opinion) and he did great, but the rest of the team only had one more TD and that was from Big Ben. I lost by more than EIGHTY points!!
      Oh well, there’s always next week!

    User Requested Player Ranks – Week 9 

    As I’ve mentioned previously, this year we’re trying something a little different when it comes to player rankings. We’re letting our readers decide which players show up on the lists. This means less work for me (or at least spreads out the work) while ensuring that all requested players show up on the lists and all quandaries are resolved. Hopefully last weeks rankings helped at least a few teams out there win their match-ups and hopefully this week’s do the same!

    Remember, if you have any Flex slot questions, continue to post those as comments and we can respond to them individually. Anyways, feel free to start posting your line-up questions, along with any questions/comments about this new format.       Should I drop R. Torain for Thomas Jones? And can I drop Z. Miller for Tamme?

        If you’re going to drop one I’d drop Torain. I wouldn’t drop either though. Is Miller your backup? If you have someone you consistently start over him (like Gates, for example), then pick up Tamme. Worth taking a flier. With Peyton throwing to him, it makes him top 5 TE potential in my opinion.

          Miller is my one and only. I need depth, especially with bye week approaching. I thought about dropping Holmes..he hasn’t produced much and I have A. Johnson, Maclin, Crabtree, and L. Evans. RBs I have Mathews, Tolbert, Torain, Lynch and Bradshaw. Lynch hasn’t impressed either but his schedule keeps me holding on. Torain is injury prone. Who could I part ways with, in your opinion?? I will take all. I am 3-5 and should be at least 5-3. Injuries have killed me!

            That’s a tough one. I think I would drop Marshawn Lynch though. Torain was playing great before the injury, which doesn’t seem serious. If he returns to the starting gig in a couple weeks, he becomes a starter candidate each week. Lynch splits time with Justin Forsett on a poor offensive team.

            As for Tamme, it’d be great to have him on your team AND Zach Miller is a little banged up right now, but I’m still afraid of Tamme’s nearly non-existent track record. However, if you’re only carrying one tight end, Tamme’s bye week is over and he isn’t in danger of missing this week’s game (like Miller), so the smart move is probably to get him.

        Added them. I like Smith and Jones this week and even Nelson wouldn’t be a bad flex play with Driver ruled out.

            Good call on Nelson/Jones. I did a bit more research and swapped their spots. For DeSean Jackson, keep an eye on if he’s playing this week (seems he should be) and if he does, get him in your starting line-up! (of course, if you have better options, you can bench him, hah)

          Brandon, I have a GOOD logjam/dilemma at WR this week with three of your Top 15 WRs: Crayton, S. Smith (NYG) and DeSean Jackson….. but I also have Nicks and Jordy Nelson…!! What do you recommend??? It’s one of those weeks where I’m probably picking at the margin since all five of those guys will probably go off against their awful opponents…

        They’re all on there. As far as your tight end goes, it seems Gates might not play this week, so you may have to decide between Keller and Tamme earlier than expected! I have Keller one spot ahead of Tamme right now, but it’s very close. It’s primarily due to the fact that Tamme really only has one game under his belt and I’m still a little wary of ranking him too high. Good luck!

          I need help with my roster this week:
          1 WR 2 RB and 1WR/RB [STANDARD SCORING]

          WRs: Steve Smith (NYG), Johnny Knox, Davone Bess
          RBs: Michael Bush, Shonn Greene, Cedric Benson, Fred Jackson, Jonathan Stewart

          I’m thinking of using Steve Smith as WR and Johnny Knox has a potential flex spot (though Bess seems to be a viable option too against Balt (WR’s have been getting double digit targets against them))

          For RB, i was thinking of M. Bush and Greene with either Cedric or Stewart flexing. I know Stewart was a dud last week but perhaps he can make something happen as he starts again this week. Cedric has a tough match up but nonetheless is the primary back and will see lots of touches. F.Jackson is a primary back but it is buffalo against Chi….

          I think im having alot of trouble deciding RB obviously but also the flex because i am really liking johnny knox against seattle(despite cutler being sacked so many time – knox still gets alot of looks)

        Good point on Witten/Keller. Just swapped their spots. Was originally giving too much weight to the opposing defenses, but even with a tougher opponent, Witten will still see more looks most likely while Kitna gets comfortable.

          Keep an eye on Wells, as he might not even play. I’d go with Stewart though if DeAngelo Williams is ruled out for sure. He flopped last week, but give him one more shot.

      can you add brandon lafell, steve johnson, fitzpatrick, kitna, pettigrew, nate burleson?

      debating between NYG and ATL def – NYG seems to have a more favorable schedule, and their def is solid no?

      at this point, is it worth holding on to justin forsett or donald brown? I may be landing a trade where i gave up BJGE, zach miller (oak), for mcfadden… RB1-2 is AP and Jamaal charles.

        Got those players on the list now. As for defense, go with the G-men…especially this week against Charlie Whitehurst and the Seahawks!

        As for your trade, do you have a flex spot? If so, Peterson, McFadden and Charles would be DOMINANT!

        Forsett is probably worth dumping if you have a better option at this point. Donald Brown should see more carries this week, but even he probably won’t put up 100 yards a week at any point this year.

      Trying to decide who’s better long term (season) Moreno or Blount?

      Trying to decided between starting Rice or Hillis? (have Mendy as other starter, non-ppr)

      And trying to decide if I give up on Hernandez and try to pick up Tamme?

        Moreno is on a bye this week, so don’t start him if you were thinking about it :-)

        In the long term though it’s really tough to say. Even with limited action, I figure the Bucs will run the ball more and Blount has proven he has what it takes to be successful in the league. That doesn’t mean I would drop Moreno though.

        As for Rice and Hillis, I have Ray a few spots ahead right now, but it could go either way. Hillis is probably safer and should go for about 90 and a score. Rice could go for 70 and no score, but always has potential for a huge game.

        As for your tight end, you could probably go with Tamme. If he goes big, then you have him on your roster. If he does crappy, there’s a decent chance you can pick up Hernandez again next week.

        Please don’t start Whitehurst. The G-Men are the fourth best team in the league against opposing quarterbacks (in terms of fantasy points surrendered.) And that’s against experienced QB’s…not first timers!

        With the number of touchdowns he’s scored in the past couple games (while even racking up some decent yardage) I think you have to go with Brandon Jacobs. The Seahawks run defense is pretty bad too.

        I got Freeman one spot ahead of Stafford right now. I’m starting to get a little scared of that now-healthy Jets defense and doubt Stafford puts up the same numbers from last week. Freeman has been fairly consistent with 200+ yards and a score and will hopefully turn the ball over less than Stafford as well.

        That’s a tough one there. I know it would be exciting to start Seyi Ajirotutu and he should get a fair amount of looks, but he’s too untested for my liking. Brandon LaFell has been solid lately, but has a tough match-up with the Saints. I’d go with Nelson, who seems to have become Rodgers second favorite target behind Greg Jennings at this point.     The Wire – Week 9 pick-ups: LeGarrette Blount 

    Here are the potential waiver wire targets for the upcoming week. This week we saw Buccaneers undrafted rookie running back LaGarrette Blount break out in a big way, rumbling for 120 yards and two scores (awesome quality video after jump), while teammate Cadillac Williams was relegated to a change-of-pace back. Anyways, I’ve included my thoughts on Blount and some other players, as well as the percentage owned (taken from Yahoo.) Take a look and see if any of these guys can help patch your squad together and carry you to the Promised Land…

      I’m a little thin at WR. I have Boldin, Andre, Welker, and Collie. I dropped Knox and picked up WR/RB Woodhead during the Pats game. I am in a Yahoo! league, so Woodhead can be slotted in either position. At RB I have McFadden, Hillis, Felix Jones, Stephen Jackson, and Jonathon Stewart.
      The only 2 you have on the list as starters are Bess and TB Williams. Williams is not available. So my question is, would you drop Welker or Stewart for Bess or just leave it alone?

        I’d stick with Welker for now. His stats (while front-loaded) are similar to Bess’ and he has more upside.

        That’s a tough one. Torain has a bye this week and could be out another game or so after that, but if he returns he’d most likely be the starter again. I’d consider dropping Reggie Bush for Blount. He’s not going to be the feature back in New Orleans and who knows how he’ll play once he returns. Have anyone else you could consider dropping for Blount, who you definitely want on your team? Any receivers?

            I’d drop Kenny Britt at this point. He’s out for an “extended period of time” and the coach is hoping he’s not out for the season. Doesn’t sound all that promising to me. Considering your team could be out of playoff contention before Britt steps back on the field, to with the guys who can help your team now.

        I would drop Torain for Blount, and just put that order on two of my teams.

        Blount has more upswing potential as Torain has to shake off an injury and Portis will be returning in the near future, and his backup Williams had 4.2avg and 1 TD this past week… also I think Tampa Bay is the better team. Watching McNabb get sacked and their oline fail all day was something I don’t want to bank on going forward.

      @Hawgman Maybe drop Welker for Bess, but not Stewart with Deangelo now hurt.

      @Joe Wait to see how long Torain will be out for with this injury. Torain will be a much better option if he’s healthy. Keep in mind Blounts performance yesterday was against the Cardinals. Keiland Willaims (Torain’s backup) might even be a better option than Blount if Torain is out for a while.

        I drafted Stewart thinking that he would be able to do something if Williams went down. Williams went down last week and Stewart did next to nothing. The Carolina O-line is not a good group to be behind this year.
        Welker is in a high powered O, but there is no real deep threat to open up the middle for him and I just grabbed Woodhead (I don’t like to have too much invested in one team just in case they get shutout like the Jets did last week).

          Jonathan Stewart has come out and blamed the offensive line straight-up for his failure to produce. This isn’t a good sign moving forward, even if DeAngelo Williams sits out again.

      Crazy to think of swapping Hernandez for Tamme? I was going to wait and see tonight, and it’s looking good so far. Other TE is Vernon Davis – I at least need a bye replacement for next week, or maybe even just a replacement if he’s not effective with Troy Smith at QB

      Also – what do you guys think of swapping Blount in for M Lynch? Lynch has a great playoff schedule, but he’s not exactly getting it done right now.

        At a minimum, you’ll probably break even with Tamme over Hernandez. At least he can find the endzone, something Hernandez hasn’t been able to do this year. The Patriots are playing more balanced football these days and giving their running backs the goalline touchdowns. Indy should continue to throw the ball a lot.

        As for running backs, I’d say go for it with Blount over Lynch. I wasn’t high on Marshawn to begin with and think Seattle is where running backs (since Shaun Alexander) go to die.

        As with Billy, I prefer Jacob Tamme over Gonzalez AND Pettigrew moving forward. If he’s not available though, I wouldn’t be against using Pettigrew instead of Gonzo from here on out. Assuming Stafford doesn’t have a some personal disagreement with the guy and never throws him the ball or something, hah.

      I’m thinking of dropping DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith for Woody and BJGE… just to get Carolina, the worst team, away and get New England, the best team, around more… thoughts?

        At this point we’re really just talking about back-ups here, but with DeAngelo Williams upside I think it’s still hard to drop him. Even Steve Smith has picked it up over the past couple weeks and should improve as Brandon LaFell becomes a more consistent threat on the other side. Have you thought of trading away a quarterback and someone like Garcon for an upgrade at running back? If you can do a 2-for-1 deal, then you will have a free roster spot to pick up Green-Ellis. Just a thought :-)

      What 2 RB should I start this week out of Turner, Rice and Bount?
      Also, what 2 WR out of Steve Smith (Giants), Welker, Fitzgerald and Harvin?
      I also have one wr/rb spot open.

      I’m leaning toward starting all 3 RB and Smith/Fitzgerald
